I sure learnt a lot about Croatia, I had a few notions because I had a croatian teammate, a very nice guy, apparently croatians are very nice people. I was planning to go visist eastern Europe on my next trip over to Europe so now I know that if I go to Croatia I won't be disapointed.

Many English (and thus also American, Canadian, etc.) people nowadays have Danish origins (most names in :"son" like Johnsson or Davidson).

can be swedish or norweigan aswell (all three have the "son" as a very common extention to our surnames..) especially americans can be swedish descendants as we had the most people emmigrating to America of the three.

Well, historically the Danes have invaded England (mostly the North and East), while Norwegians have rampaged around Scotland and Ireland, and Swedes went to Eastern Europe and Russia. Nowadays, I was under the impression that most Danes had names ending in "-sen" and not "-son" like the Swedes and Norwegians. But they were originally the same, and if you look at the pronunciation of the word "son" in English, you'll notice thatin Northern England it rhymes with "con", while in the South it is pronounced just as "sun" (so like the Danish "-sen" ending).

Well that sure would a big coincidence if my teammate was your friend's boyfriend but I guess not. At the time I played for a team in St Etienne, France and the name was Elvedine (spelling? that's how it was pronounced I believe)
Actually I also played with a guy from ex-Yugoslavia (can't tell which country) named Bojan and one here in the US named Dragan, the former was very unplesant (ever try to play basketball against a 2.10m, 150Kg guy?) but the latter was very nice, once more
Anyway it would be nice to know someone in Croatia if I go there or not

I was talking about those with English origins (who in turn probably have Danish origins if they have a name in "-son"), not about direct immigrants from Scandinavia to the US.

Yes, :haihai: in Denmark we have the "sen" ending...like "son" in Sweden and "sun" in Iceland....
When the Danish Vikings raided England, they also founded and named some of the cities and towns in England. Cities/towns with the ending "by" for example "Grimsby" and "Derby." THat is because the word "BY" means town in Danish....

Most of the first Danes emmigrating to the United States came over in the last 19th century with the industrialisation period, however, some went in mid-1800s....

Well, I sincerely hope nobody doesn't know where it is, as it is quite touristical, although less than neighouring Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Then, I don't know what makes you think it is a small country. Well, yes, the population is quite low, but its land area is about twice that of England or 4x that of the Netherlands (Holland).
