Not as normal as you think. I may as well just come right out and say it. The reason way I'm in that pose is because I only have one ear. You see on the right side of my head I have no ear. None, zip, zlitch, nadda. I don't even have an ear canal on that side either. The three bones that make us your ear drum is one solid bone. They said I should have lost the sense of vibrations, hearing, and ringing before high school. Too bad that never happened. However, despite the extremely poor hearing on my right side I'm considered leagally deaf. I only have one ear. I try to take care of it, but sometimes (more like most of the time) I get overzealous with music. However, I still try my best to preserve the hearing that I have. As matter of fact I can ear sounds further away than most people can. However, when they're close up, then I have problems because my brain is trying to figure out which sounds to hone in on, and which sounds to ignore. It's a pain in the *** to be completely honest.
That birth defect has effected me in so many ways, I don't think anybody will ever truly understand me as a person. I'm not trying to get all "feeling sorry for myself" here. I'm just saying people should be happy with what they have. Humans take their advantages for granted much more than they realize. When they finally lose one of those advantages, they enter a whole new perpective on life. As for me, I was born with this so I was already on that particular path anyway. We all have a purpose in live, it's just figuring out what it is that can be a problem.
I would like to comment that I do have an ear now on the right side of my head. Well if you can call it an ear anyway. The plastic surgens took out a piece of my rib to make the ear, took skin from the back of my good ear to make the skin of my new ear, and then took skin from both of my upper thighs to make the skin on back of both ears. I only went up to stage two. In stage two it looks like an ear head on, but when you look at it from the side you can see there is no canal there. That's stage three, which in basically creates the image of a canal. However, with all the pain from the other two surgeries, I seriously doubt I'll being doing stage three in the near future, if at all. The big *** scars on my body hurt enough as it is. Besides the only reason why I did it two years ago (which was when that picture was take, about month before the first surgery to be exact), was so I can wear my freaking glasses. I didn't do it for looks. If people judge you solely on looks along, then they are too damn superfical, and not worth the time of day.
Sorry for the long, boring post, but I figured I may as well tell why I look the way I do in that picture. Personally I hate my physical appearence, but I honestly don't care. I'm happy with who I am, so that's all that matters to me.
