So I got an email from the embassy a couple of days ago, and they've informed me that I got pre-approval from MEXT and that the "final" approval will come when they decide what college I'm going to attend.
I wouldn't get worried about not getting an email like this now though, because looking at past years' threads, it seems that it's not every country's embassy that does this. But it's possible news are coming to everyone soon enough.

Hey guys!
Some updates from Australia! We have received an email saying that we are moving onto the final stage of the application process, and will officially get the scholarship once there is a Japanese university accepting us! So pretty much the same as what Jaspion had posted earlier.

Hello!
Has anyone received any new information?
I only received a phone call from the embassy some months ago after the interview (which was conducted only in Japanese), telling me that i passed it and the final results will come later. I haven't received the pre-approval from MEXT which worries me and I wonder if it would be impolite to send an email to the embassy to ask about it, considering it's only early July. Waiting is so tiring

Congrats!I guess each embassy communicates through different media (some calls and some emails?) I think the phone call is the pre-approval from MEXT, and the final official result will be readied when the placement is confirmed. I hope we will all get our final results soon (the university recommendation track applicants have already got their final results, so I think we are about to too!)

I wonder if usually the university recommendation track applicants receive their results faster. Also on the uni brochures there was info about the dorms, i hope that they have some places reserved for us even though we get the results so late.matchagelato

Yes cuz we aren't many, especially at unis that offer only 2-3 spots so it would be nice hahah

Hi!I've applied for the MEXT scholarship of Japanese Studies program (aka Nikken?) by the University Recommendation too, planning to go to Kyoto University. Has anybody received the official result or offer? So far I have received NOTHING, which makes me really nervous.
I've seen some posting by people of the University Recommendation track, and most of them received their result from their home university. So I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to ask your home uni (maybe they've already got the result but just not releasing it?)
If not, don't stress! According to past years' posts, results from Kyoto University were mostly released at the end of July, so no stress right now!
Good luck, and I hope we can all make it to Kyoto and meet there!

Last week I asked my home uni's professors about the result of the program, and they told me that the Kyoto Uni had made sure that I passed the review of the MEXT scholarship, planning to send the professor the official files when everything is ready. I hope they will send the results to me asap, which gives me more time to prepare for getting my passport and visa.

Guys I have a question . I contacted to embassy for second screening results of Mext. They just said me that they didn't know anything about that , Mext or uni just should text me and inform me. But I don't know whether i passed second screening or not. Everyone except me got their results. Is there any chance I didn't accept and they just don't say me? When that condition happens, do they tell u? They said if something happens, i should tell them about that . I'm just nervous guys

Hi!
There is a chance that each embassy handles it differently, but here in Australia, the Japanese embassy notified us regarding the second screening, rather than MEXT.
Though, we are not accepted by any university yet (our Japanese embassy said that MEXT is requesting universities to accept us, so it's not the final result).
I'm think the embassy (or MEXT if it is said that it contacts you directly) will notify regardless of the result.
Again, no stress until the middle of August! Good luck!

If they don't send anything until the end of July I will contact the embassy. Based on last years forums, students usually get the results between 20-30th of july, but some in august too. But no one from here has yet been contacted by uni so I think we shouldn't panic yet Also, in my country too they haven't told me anything regarding the second screening, they just told me on the phone some months ago after I passed the interview that the final result will be in summer. Yeah it is same situation. I called embassy regarding second screening results and asked them about it, they said they didn't know anything. I think some embassy waiting final results to tell people.Not yet
