So what do you watch on Japanese TV?

I hear from a lot of people that Japanese TV is pretty crappy, but I'm sure that there must be some TV programs that you like. I have a lot of TV programs that I like, even though I agree that the quality can be a little bit higher than hearing Oishiii all the time ;)

P.s. I am not talking about Japanese TV downloads... I'm talking about watching it for reall!

I watch the news mostly on terrestrial TV channels and movies on cable.

But "Aibou" is my favorite drama (police detective) show at the moment. A movie based on the TV show is scheduled to be released on May 1.

I liked the Ururun Taizaiki, at least before they changed the format of the show....and the sekai fushigi hakken...tend to watch FNN's supernews, some of the music shows, like Heyheyhey, and a lot of the food shows :)

Zooooooom IN!!

I like Zoom-In Super that's on Nihon TV (Channel 4 in the Kanto area) every weekday morning from 6 to 8.

It is a news/information show much like Today Show in the USA. The show focuses more on fluff than hard news, I guess. There are other shows like this on different stations but I prefer this one because they have correspondents all over Japan and each of them do a brief live segment every morning, so you get to see different parts of Japan.

I mainly love the "crazy" Japanese shows (i.e. noukabe, ninja warrior, etc.) Also sumo when it's on.

Ainori, London Hearts, Ururun Taizaiki, and if you're in the Kansai area, Tantei Knight Scoop!

Favorite dramas (though not current) off the top of my head include Long Vacation, Tokyo Love Story (very old), Furuhata Ninzaburo, Jikou Keisatsu, Nodame Kantabire, Densha Otoko, and many more!

I liked Ururun as well, the went to the Netherland twice (one time for the windmills, the other time for fierljeppen). Too bad it's not on TV anymore.

Downtown rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then don't forget to have a look at this thread: Downtown's Batsu Games (Punishment games)

oops the video didnt work..

i watch Japanese tv everyday, mainly to keep up with Japanese language.
i watch anything that seems interesting, the only thing i don't like is the constant appearance of delicious food! it makes dieting extremely difficult, HAHAHA.

I like mostly variety: Ame Taalk, Rinkan, Gaki no Tsukai, Downtown DX, and Mecha Ike.

I voted movies. I don't really have an occasion to watch Japanese programs living in the U.S. But from time to time I'll catch a Godzilla, or a number of other dubbed in English Japanese sci-fi movies.
