Hello everyone, I'm doing some kind of research about how do modern japanese music influences in the modern lifestyle in young and older people, sometimes I've seen it nfluences a lot in the way of dressing, specially in visual kei fans, the goth like also, I'd like to know what do you think about this topic, any idea and opinion is very wellcome

So....what do you think?? do it really influences the ociety or not?? and how?? feel free to post

Anything in the media influences people's behavior and popmusic is a big part of that. Even more so in Japan then other countries perhaps, since the Japanese consumers are very trend-sensitive.

Genres in music get fans. Fans heighten the genre to a subculture. Subculture gets noticed by the media. Media blows subculture out of proportion and there you have a few million Japanese changing their way of life to suit the (not so sub anymore)culture.

Ok, the above is a bit black and white but i guess it all pretty much works along those lines.

Visual Kei and Gothic lolita are a huge influence on Japanese style!! In fact it is even starting to spread to American style! It really started with X japan and how popular they were. But in truth music and the fashion of musicians, models, actors, etc always influence style everywhere!! But it has gotten very popular lately. ^-^

Yup, nowadays almost everyone is into some kind of music movement or music-affected or inffluenced "scene" or way of life, and some "subcultures" as twisted said, are increasing such cases are the goth, here in my country it isn't very popular at least for now, but punk is the most influent movement ^^u, I think in japan everyone has their own "space" for xpressing their music likes. I've heard there's a park where every sunday, the goth music fans go and are some time together, anyone knows something more about this???

I'd say the freedom of style that we're enjoying now gives birth to the desire to be a part of a group, and that might be why we do this.

I've talked a bit to my grandparents about it, and "back then" (like the fifties, sixties and seventies) everyone had the same style clothes.. EVERYONE... when bellbottoms were hot, bellbottoms were hot! Everything else was not

Now we have a whole ensemble of different styles to choose from. all perfectly acceptable.

you can make up your own styles, and aslong as they're not too outrages, people will be fine with you, and even then, people will come to accept you.

Ofcourse we grab our ideas from what we see around us, and what we see is pop culture.

Pop idols are also the first to dare to wear these extreme clothes. First of all, they are not considered human.. they are demi-gods, anything they wear is cool or atleast ok because they wear it. And as soon as we've seen them wear it enough times, it becomes acceptable and people that follow them also follow their example in clothes.

secondly pop idols want to wear something that makes them stand out. They're performers, it's their job to stand out.

and the more people follow them, the more extreme they have to get to stand out.

which is my theory on how it got to where it is now...

Oh thnx for the info Twistedmac, but, hey I've heard there's a group of gothic-like people that usually go to yoyogi park on sundays, is this true?? ???

i dont know, my friend got the FRUITS book and there are all kinds of styles on there. from cosplay to gothic lolita to the english punk style. but i'd say the media infulence the styles a lot.

I know there is a bridge that is a really popular hang out for the youth in Japan. I can't remember which bridge it is though....

jejej yup, the media influences the style of the mass a lot :S i think it's a shame that some people do just what the mass does...of course it's not always like this
