His actual name is Hideto, but his nickname is Hyde, but it is pronounced in Japanese "Haido". Japanese call him this way, and of course Hyde himself pronounces it this way too, I have heard it from his own mouth.
maybe you are confused with "Hide" who was from another band. I think "X-Japan" but please correct me if I'm wrong about the name of band.
Actually Hyde's name use to be Hide [way back before indes and everything], BUT people were getting him and X Japan's Hide confused, so he changed it to Hyde with a 'y'. As for pronunciation, Hyde is pronounced 'Haido', but not because of Japanese pronunciation, but so people would not get him and X Japan's Hide confused during chats/interviews/music shows/gossip talk/etc.
Every once and awhile though, I hear announcers saying Hyde [hide] and not haido [EX: MOON CHILD]... probably has to do with X Japan's Hide being deceased, so now there is no confussion.

Hmmm...His voice isn't exactly as great when he's live, yes...However, it could be faulty/crappy equipment, something else, and/or the fact that he's moving around. His voice seems perfect when he's sitting down during a live, so, yeah...And even in the times when his voice isn't at it's most amazing, it's still better than anyone else's voice.
