Favorite Miike Takashi film?

I have not-so-recently become a big fan of Miike Takashi's work. Granted, sometimes he can be a little overboard, but I think that is one of his biggest selling points for me. He does what no one else is willing to do AND can get away with it. I, myself, have onlyseen four of his movies: Dead or Alive 2, Audition, Ichi the Killer, and most recently Visitor Q. I was wondering what other movies of his people on the forums have seen and recommend.

So here it is: What is your favorite Miike Takashi film and why?

I'm tempted to say DOA2 just because its the most entertaining of his films and also has a lot of heart which surprised me and was a welcome change from the usual hard as nails grimacing Riki Takeuchi (we actually got to see him smile). The film was more playful than the first and the sheer inventiveness of the action and the abundance of eccentricities of the characters made it rise above being just another genre breaker from Miike.

But very close behind are the usual films people cite as their fav's - Audition just knocked me for six when i first saw it, and looking back it is a brilliantly conceived piece expertly told. Ichi The Killer is just a masterpiece of violence and of our ability to consume violence - i think its a very underrated and misunderstood piece. But also i'd go for GOZU as one of my favourites - it's just so much fun and is filled to the brim with those eccentricities that make Miike films such an exciting experience.

I DIDN'T like Audition....too gore for me.

Ichi the Killer I really liked, as it reminded me of a good Tarantino film with bloody scenes simultaneously with funny/akward dialogues.

The Happiness of Katakuris was really good. I liked it mainly because it was...erm...different and sooo funny. Combining musical with a murder-story was something I had never seen before....

Miike has many great films, some of what I would highly recommend would be the following;

the most recent one i watched was vister Q, but i can't decide if i liked it or not. a little bit strange, but what else would you expect!?
i want to see the shinjuku triad society trilogy but have yet to pick it up!
ichi the killer speaks for itself as does audition (which my girlfriend didn't like for some reason.....)

didn't like audition because of the gore but liked ichi the killer (???) that's probably the goriest film i've seen!!!

HEHE...yeah, the reason being the second half of Audition..too "detailed gore." Ichi also had some scenes I couldn't bare watching, but overall I liked Ichi...

ok fair enough!
i think some scenes in Ichi were a bit dodgy...the old dude taking off his coat and being ripped...
but one of the early scenes was cool...the bloodbath in the apartment...probably not your thing though!
i must admit, some scenes were classic!

I have Ichi the Killer, Audition, and Visitor Q but I haven't seen a lot of the ones the people above mentioned.
I liked them all [well the ones i have seen, obviously] but Visitor Q was a bit weird.

yeah, i didn't really understand the point of visitor Q.
well i did and i didn't...difficult to explain

are all rightful choices for the highest honors.

You can't go wrong with any of these.

My current favourite is The Bird People in China. A beautiful film and well directed. Not your usual bloodbath either. The oddest one so far is Visitor Q. How manytabbo subjects can you fit into one film? Just bought City of Lost Souls. Might watch it tonight

I really liked audition. I'm a huge horror junkie. Ive seen so many that not much gets to me, but audition really did. the glee she takes from the torture is REALLY disturbing.
I also loved Ichi the killer. It seems to revel in its weirdness.
