Here are Hoover's exact words: "The individual is handicapped by coming face to face with a conspiracy so monstrous he cannot believe it exists."

Poor, deluded J. Edgar... In 1956, when he said this, of course he was referring to a global communist conspiracy. Which never existed.

Poor, deluded J. Edgar... In 1956, when he said this, of course he was referring to a global communist conspiracy. Which never existed.
Still, his words are truthful to any conspiracy, including landing on the moon. The powers that be know it and the majority just reinforce it by taking at face value whatever they read or hear. This they depend on.

However, since you brought it up, it (Communism, or some modern form of it like socalism) is coming to fruition on a daily basis in the US today and will exist before too long in the US, but this is fodder for another thread and not to be discussed here.

Still, his words are truthful to any conspiracy, including landing on the moon.

No, the point is that Hoover's words are not truthful. They were not truthful when he spoke them, and they certainly do not imply that the moon landing hoax theories have any validity.

Instead, in hindsight, Hoover's words stand as evidence of his delusion. His words illustrate the feverish mindset of the conspiracy lover. In Hoover's day, the John Birch Society and writers like Robert Welch believed, for instance, that Karl Marx was in the pay of the Illuminati and that they had started both the French and Russian revolutions. Hoover and others bought into all this nonsense, too. No one today believes there ever existed a global communist conspiracy--or anything like it. And in 50 years, no one will doubt that Americans walked on the moon.

I have been trying to debunk this video by all means, and my conclusion is that it must be static electricity came from the astronaut space-suit.
I cannot imagine any other explanation for it.
Think that the moon's soil is a mixture of 90% of silicates, so very easy to get electrically charged. Astronauts drag all over the moon's soil during the mission.
Do you think could there be another cientific explanation for this video?
It's quite interesting.

Phil Plait's Bad Astronomy: Bad TV

Of course a flag can wave in a vacuum. In the shot of the astronaut and the flag, the astronaut is rotating the pole on which the flag is mounted, trying to get it to stay up. The flag is mounted on one side on the pole, and along the top by another pole that sticks out to the side. In a vacuum or not, when you whip around the vertical pole, the flag will ``wave'', since it is attached at the top. The top will move first, then the cloth will follow along in a wave that moves down. This isn't air that is moving the flag, it's the cloth itself.

Thank you, Tsuyoiko, but I had checked on the Badastronomy Site before and it only explain what happen when you touch the flag.
However the thing is that the flag in this very famous vid is not touched by the Commander David R. Scott when he passes.
Here is a thread specially created for this vid in the Badastronomy Site.
The following is a quote from the Apollo 15 Lunar surface journal taken from the post#4 from this forum's thread:
Apollo 15 Lunar Surface Journal said:
[Dave crosses in front of the TV, headed for the LM.]
[Note the slight motion of the lower righthand corner of the flag after Dave passes. Journal Contributors have suggested a number of possible causes: (1) Dave could have brushed against the flag with his left arm as he went by; (2) he could have kicked some dirt with his boot that hit the bottom of the flag; (3) he could have pushed a mound of soil sideways with his boot that pushed against the flagstaff ; (4) the impact of his boots on the ground as he ran past could have shaken the flagstaff; (5) he might have been carrying a static charge which attracted the flag material; (6) the flag could have been disturbed by emissions from the backpack.]
Please, have look at the two last posibilities. I'm with them.
The vid is famous all over the world and it's quite difficult to debunk, it's consirered the principal reason for hoax believers nowadays.

I see what you mean Amigo. Any of those explanations seems plausible enough, far more plausible than declaring the whole thing a hoax anyway.

Good links and it gives one much food for thought. The fact remains that I would like to see undisputable, independent, verifiable proof that there is a flag and a rover left there. That's all. Is that too much to ask given todays "advanced" technology?

A simple independent photo would put this whole argument/debate to rest once and for all. I'd like to believe that it did happen as I saw it with my own eyes as I mentioned previously, and believed it until the conspiracies came out of the closet. Then I thought it could be easily verified independently, but that has not happened yet and it makes me wonder and think.

I couldn't agree more. That's my thought. The thing is that I want to understand and to debunk all hoax traces. That's all. I find it very interesting.

I want to face every evidence of an hoax, because I'm sure they did.
But I want to be sensible, to do it with common sense. I'd rather to debate instead of fighting with hoax believers.
When I was a child I was delighted with the fact that we, human being, put a man on the moon. So now I can not stand the concept that it wasn't true.
I'm sure (and I hope) that one day, as you say, we will get a photo (proof) of the flag of United States of America stuck in the Moon's soil.

What in the lunar world is a moon?! Anyway, I think we should make a Hoax Section for this forum. Dedicate an entire section to hoaxes and weird stuff... like the moon. Is that slang for the sun? If so then no. The sun is way too hot to land on.

OHHH! The moon!...I'm such an idiot. Yes, I believe we've been there. I hear it's really windy and cold during the summer months. My cousin moved there, that's how I know. It's also my favorite planet!

I thought it could be easily verified independently, but that has not happened yet and it makes me wonder and think.

People who insist that the moon landings have not been "verified independently" have simply neglected or refused to investigate the great volume of independent, verifiying evidence that indisputably exists.

The Wikipedia entry on this subject offers a link to "abundant independent evidence for Apollo Moon landings." With ample citations.

Here is one brief excerpt:

Quoting from James Hansen's biography of Neil Armstrong, "First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong":

"For those few misguided souls who still cling to the belief that the Moon landings never happened, examination of the results of five decades of LRRR experiments should evidence how delusional their rejection of the Moon landing really is."

There's much, much more. Take a look:

Those are just writings and people saying such and such and we are to take that as truth and evidence? Maybe most will, but I still will not be satisfied until an independent picture is provided from and independent source outside the government.

And, as I mentioned a few times above in this debate, why did not the Japanese orbitor, with the highest resolution camera ever to orbit the moon, provide us a picture? Makes me wonder why they wasted that high-res camera. This thread wouldn't even be here if they took a picture and proved, once and for all, to the world, the the US actually landed there. Until that day comes, I will remain a skeptic.

Not if you go at night. :D

Pachipro, you have trapped yourself into a circle. You claim that "those are just writings and people saying such and such" and that you would like to see an independent picture from an independent source. It's almost like saying the sky is green and then refusing to look up. Well, who is to say you won't come back and state "those are just faked, photo shopped pictures. I want to go up there and see it myself!" And then after that say, "Well, they put that flag there, as well as those boot marks there, and those mirrors, all in advance of my arrival so I would think it happened 40 some odd years ago!"

I'm going to go on a tangent here, so bear with me. You are a self proclaimed conspiracy theorist; one need not look further than the description under your name. Do you not think, then, that perhaps you are a little bias when it comes to these matters? Do you believe in conspiracy theories because of the fact that they are conspiracies, no matter the evidence to support them? Have you ever stepped back from it all and thought that, just for once, a conspiracy theory is not true?

I think that most people who believe in conspiracy theories, especially ones about the Apollo moon landings, believe in those theories because it is fun. It's fun to wonder if there is some big secret the government is hiding from us that we can discover. It's fun to go against the grain and be argumentative. It sure beats going to a 9-5 job every day.

Because most people in the world, especially those scientists running the cameras, have no doubt we landed on the moon. Why waste one of those "highest resolution camera" pictures to prove a point most people agree on, only to have moon landing conspiracy loonies plug their ears and sing?

This statement makes no sense to me Half-n-Half as if someone told me the sky was green and I looked up and saw that it was green then I would have solid proof and there would be no further need for any more discussion on the matter. Case closed. The same with independent, verifiable, proof of the moon landings. Case closed. Until then I will stand by my skepticism, while not fully doubting it as I have not done the research. Writings and 40 year old pictures mean nothing as I know from experience how the government propaganda machine operates. And if if the government says such and such is true and it is taught in schools, people like you, as I did myself, will believe it and will usually not question it further, but take it as fact because the government said so and my teachers said so.

However, once one does some independent research on the subject (or any subject fo that matter) in order prove the skeptics wrong, one comes away with a different viewpoint and begins to wonder that, hmmm, maybe what all we have been taught and told is not true or why would these people with decent reputations put their careers on the line to debunk it?

Just to prove I am not completely against the landing on the moon, and do look at all sides, take a look, if you will, at this web site as this man believes wholehartedly that we did land on the moon and has done exhaustive research on the subject to prove himself right and written many books, all of which I have read. Once you have read his website completely, as I have, you will see that I am not a complete skeptic and conspiracy nut, but do look at all viewpoints. (In the case of the moon landings I have not done much research into the theory that we did not land there.) However, I wonder if you will take the time to read all of his website as it will probably take a year or more. His theories are good, which is why I am "on the fence" as I have said. Still I want independent pictures and proof.

(The website is full of info and may be slow to load. Be patient and read! Especially what he has to say about Mars and the othert planets. Part of his theory is that, based on pictures and other evidence, he believes there are monuments on the moon and that it was once, and may still be, inhabited. No comment from me on this.)

No, I do not believe I am a little biased when it comes to these matters as I look at them as "where there is smoke, there must be fire somewhere." I have found doubt in all conspiracies on both sides and very much enjoy doing the research and finding out for myself.

Unfortunately, my research usually leans towards the side of the conspiriatorialists as they have better research and many cannot completely debunk them. That's what makes it fun. And it is always fun to debate people like yourself who have NOT done the research into both sides, but take as gospel whatever they are taught and/or told on the news and then try to tell others that they are wrong. Then (and this is NOT aimed at you) they get their panties in a wad when they are faced with questions and doubt about what they have been taught. Do the research into the other side, then we can have common grounds of debate.

Because most people in the world, especially those scientists running the cameras, have no doubt we landed on the moon. Why waste one of those "highest resolution camera" pictures to prove a point most people agree on, only to have moon landing conspiracy loonies plug their ears and sing?
C'mon now you really can't be serious can you? Why waste the hi-res cameras to prove that the most significant achievement in human history was not a hoax because "they have no doubt we landed on the moon."? Surely you jest. The simple answer would be to shut up people like myself once and for all!

I see Half-n-Half that you are only 19 years old. I am nearly 3 times your age. You have not even entered the work force or had a mortgage or a real job or even realized how corrupt and despicable your own government is as they have lied to you and me forever and continue doing it. Hell, you have not even paid any real taxes yet or struggled to eke out a life so I will cut you some slack. However, I feel that you will surely change your tune as you age and struggle to make a life for yourself in this crazy world of ours which will be much tougher than the world I lived in and I feel for you as in the future (like now) people will be slaves of the state and do what they are told without question.

Most people do change their tune as they age and learn the truth about how things really are. Your experience in this world and these things is equivalent to a pimple on a gnats butt. Minute and not very expansive.

But, and this scares me, somehow I believe you are the product of our "Dumbed down" educational system that "they" have for the past 40 years tried so hard to implement and may just have succeeded. (Yes it is another "conspiracy" I have delved into and learned that it is more truth than fiction.) If you care to learn you can read the book "the deliberate dumbing down of america" a sad but true chronology of what has transpired in our educational system where students are taught not to think independently, but to take as fact whatever they are taught. (If your e-mail can handle it I can send you a copy in PDF as it is 11MB). Heck, you can probably still get it for free at the authors website. Read some of the reviews in the link and tell me I am off base.

You have a lot to learn Half-n-Half and I do hope you do not stick to your beliefs that what you have been taught is the truth and will do your own research for, if you do believe it, we are finished as a country and I am glad I will not be alive when you are my age and saying, "what? Maybe Pachipro was right way back when, but now it's too late." Open your ears and eyes and NEVER believe what you are told.

Until you have read the hundreds of books I have or done the hundreds of hours of research I have done, please do not tell me that you know more than I do or that I am wrong for, if you know me, when I am wrong I freely admit it and it is based on undeniable, verifiable truth. I've just learned to never believe what I have been taught as I so naively believed in the past. It took me a while to finally wake up, but wake up I did. I just hope people your age do the same.

Forgive me for thinking you were a conspiracy nut when it came to the moon landings. However, all of the independent research I have done on the matter leads me to believe that we did indeed land on the moon. I looked at that website, but did not find anything on the Apollo missions, only the topics you stated about monuments on the Moon and life on Mars.

No, I do not believe I am a little biased when it comes to these matters as I look at them as "where there is smoke, there must be fire somewhere." I have found doubt in all conspiracies on both sides and very much enjoy doing the research and finding out for myself.

Better research that cannot be debunked? Maybe for other conspiracies, but in terms of the Apollo missions? I cannot really speak for other conspiracies that are out there since I haven't done much research in them, but in terms of the Apollo missions, bring up a conspiracy theory research point that "cannot be debunked" and I will see what I can do.

C'mon now you really can't be serious can you? Why waste the hi-res cameras to prove that the most significant achievement in human history was not a hoax because "they have no doubt we landed on the moon."? Surely you jest. The simple answer would be to shut up people like myself once and for all!

To be honest, they probably don't give a damn about conspiracy theorists who think the Apollo missions were faked. Would it honestly do anyone any good to shut up a few conspiracy theorists?

I see Half-n-Half that you are only 19 years old. I am nearly 3 times your age. You have not even entered the work force or had a mortgage or a real job or even realized how corrupt and despicable your own government is as they have lied to you and me forever and continue doing it. You seem to take a lot of liberties in assuming certain facts in my life. What do you define as a real job and real taxes? You are right, I have never had to pay a mortgage or eke out a living. But don't be so naive as to think I don't believe the government has lied to the people. I wholeheartedly agree the government can be very corrupt.

However, does supporting myself independently all of a sudden mean I will have some great awakening? If so, perhaps you can expedite this process and educate me on this matter?

But, and this scares me, somehow I believe you are the product of our "Dumbed down" educational system that "they" have for the past 40 years tried so hard to implement and may just have succeeded. (Yes it is another "conspiracy" I have delved into and learned that it is more truth than fiction.) Again, you are assuming certain things about me. I agree that America is becoming one of the dumbest countries in the world. Whether that is deliberate or not, I do not know. It seems to me a more educated country would benefit that country socially and economically. However, in respect to being honest, I can only offer opinions.

You are right. I do not think independently. I am part of a hive mind that listens to the state and reiterates what it thinks. I have never disagreed with my beloved state and always swallow what it tells me to eat.

You have a lot to learn Half-n-Half and I do hope you do not stick to your beliefs that what you have been taught is the truth and will do your own research for, if you do believe it, we are finished as a country and I am glad I will not be alive when you are my age and saying, "what? Care to be my teacher? If there is some big secret you know, I would love to hear it. NEVER believe what I am told? Then how am I supposed to believe anything? Why believe what your books tell me? Why believe what you tell me? Why believe what I tell me?

Until you have read the hundreds of books I have or done the hundreds of hours of research I have done, please do not tell me that you know more than I do or that I am wrong for, if you know me, when I am wrong I freely admit it and it is based on undeniable, verifiable truth. I never stated I knew more than you do. How could an infinitesimally small 19 year old be smarter than one who is almost 3 times his age? We both share a common trait then: intellectual honesty. Show me undeniable, insurmountable proof the Apollo missions were faked and I will admit I am wrong.

LOL I love your sarcasism! Dang, you are a fast typer. I thought I could get some sleep until I answered you tomorrow when I noticed you were answering my post.

I give you credit for sticking by your guns Half-n-Half. You are to be commended for that as you stick to what you believe in until, like me, you have undeniable, verifiable proof. I can't fault you for that. I guess on this topic of the moon landings, we will have to agree to disagree until we can come up with proof one way or another.

Look on the enterprisemission.com web site and you should find his writings on the Apollo Missions. However, he has written extensively in his book "Dark Mission". Check out the link and reviews and his other books. He offers some great proof. Still it is unverifiable, but believable nonetheless as he offers great theories, especially on Mars.

Some of your comments made me believe, and assume, that you believed whatever you were told. If that is not the case, then I apologize and I am glad you are open to new ideas and theories as anyone should be. Sure I could point you to many websites and books, but I do not where to start as I do not know where you stand. In time maybe future threads will warrant it and I can post links or I can PM them to you for your perusal. Still, I believe that in another 10 or 20 years you will be singing a different tune, but that is only assumption and we both know what the meaninf of ***-u-me is.

Please understand I was not disparaging you with my comments, but I was being a bit sarcastic in that there are many your age who will never believe anything other than what they have been taught, nor will they do the research. I'm glad you are open to different ideas and theories no matter how outrageous they may seem. After you check them out, you can make up your own mind, but check them out you should.

Anyway, you are a great debator and have not run off as so many tend to do and I have enjoyed this debate alot, but we are at a stalemate here as I have no other proof or theories to put forward on whether we landed on the moon or not other than what is written and told to us. Still I am skeptical and I do not believe neither of is wrong in our thinking.

This sums up my view and without having combed through the previous arguments, I'm more than confident it hasn't been adequately addressed by the thread starter yet. :)

http://www.redorbit.com/news/space/100301/debunking_the_hoax_theories/

Renowned astronomer Sir Patrick Moore fiercely refutes the hoax claims and makes it clear how he feels about those that make them. "Their ignorance of science is so complete that it's pointless to try and argue with them," says Moore. "Any idea of it being hoaxed is quite frankly insane." If it is a giant conspiracy, it is on a global scale and involves thousands of people, including Nobel Prize- winning scientists and experts from all over the world, as well as the silence of many governments that would be only too happy to prove that the United States staged the moon landings.

Thanks for this, Elizabeth. Sir Patrick Moore is, of course, entirely right. The idea that the moon landings were faked is "quite frankly insane." And that's just what makes conspiracy lovers so hard to dissuade. No proof can ever be good enough for them. They have staked their conceptions of themselves on being shrewd, truly knowledgeable people who cannot be duped like so many others. They need to believe that they know more than everyone else, the "sheeple," as they contemptuously call them. To scientists and other skillful, informed thinkers like Moore, that need is is not merely insane; it's profoundly pathetic, because it is they who are being duped--and what's more, they are deliberately duping themselves.

But they can never admit this. To admit that they were wrong would require them to think for themselves in some new, rather too ordinary way. They would have to truly and honestly weigh the evidence for and against whatever monstrous conspiracy they happen to be relishing at the time and come to rational conclusions like normal, rational people. But they utterly disdain normal, rational people. So that conception of themselves is one they simply cannot accept.

Conspiracy lovers take neurotic pleasure in their curmudgeonly ignorance (which they characterize as knowledge) and also in those "theorists" who support it and feed on it, because in the grip of their delusions they have convinced themselves that they are in possession of some great, secret truth, a truth that has invested them with a sort of tragic wisdom. "Ah," they say, "the poor people who must sadly believe whatever the schools and the government tells them, will they never wake up? I fear they will not. Or, by the time they do wake up, it will be too late, and worse, then, once they have finally seen the ghastly truth of the vast conspiratorial web of deceit and evil calculation that governs their lives so cleverly and secretly, they will ask themselves how they could ever have been such fools for so long, how could they have ignored the few, smart ones like me? And by then we shall be gone. We warned them, oh, yes, but they were blind."

Over time, they come to take such fierce satisfaction in this cynical, contrarian self-image, in this way of conceiving of themselves, that they are unwilling and unable to change it. That's what insanity is, and why it's a powerful affliction. Insanity incorporates delusion in a person's idea of himself, and he cannot separate himself from his delusions without destroying a part of himself.

Just to show non-believers that I do indeed look at both sides and dop not just side with conspoiracy theorists, here is an excellent link to one who debunks the theory that we did NOT land on the moon titled "Who Mourns for Apollo?". I must say that he presents very convincing evidence. You can read the other parts of his thesis on his main page under the title "Moon Hoax" articles on the left hand side.

Still, and I will not waver on this, I lean towards the fact that we did land there, but I would be more satisfied with an independent picture from orbit of the lander and flag which to date no one has ever provided. Not even the Hubble telescope which many have said cannot photograph the moon because "it is too close". I offer this link from Enterprisemission.com debunking the Hubble theory.

If the Hubble can photograph the moon as well as space objects thousands/millions of light years away, it should surely be able to hone in on and photograph the lander and flag and put this debate to rest once and for all!

Awesome discussion between Pachipro and Half-n-Half respecting each other, I've been reading it and I've enjoyed it a lot.

But, as Pachipro say, we need proofs. We need less words and more facts.

To me, there are 4 kinds of people about it.
1. Apollo believers.(Sensible)
2. Hoax believers. (Sensible)
3. Radical Apollo believers (We did and nothing more!!)
4. Radical hoax believers (we didn't and nothing more!!)

Words are only words. I think you have to prove what you say or think.
Unfortunately for Apollos believers, it's quite difficult to prove we landed on the moon in 1969. Even if "they" take a picture of the USA's flag stuck on the moon, the other "they" could claim that it's a fake photo or put beforehand.

Anyway I never give up about searching a proof, and I think I've just found one irrefutable!
I have found this video. In my opinion (and I hope) it's a proof. The vid maker examines the SEQ Bay Pendulum's periods...
Watch it patienly, please. It's a 5 minutes video.

Proof we went to the moon?

From the 窶卍ゥ窶愿コツ新窶「ツキツ:

http://www.asahi.com/science/update/0718/TKY200907180217.html

Article basically says in June NASA's LRO took photos of the Apollo 14 landing site. Japan also supposedly tried to take photos with their ツ「窶堋ゥ窶堙、窶堋ェツ」 probe but haven't been able to find the site. Some say NASA, on the 40th anniversary want to put the doubts to rest about whether they landed or not.

Something I thought the conspiratorialists and non-conspiratorialists might find of interest.

i want to say that landing on the moon is possible these days,i think we landed on the moon and no doubt.
