Dunno.. I don't ever write YAOI myself so I wouldn't know. But you're right...(?) Maybe writing about the opposite sex makes them feel more free to write the sexy stuff and be more hardcore, since it's not concerning them... ? IT's like writing a book about yourself but giving the maincharacter a different name, ne?

It's very well recepted over there... most teenage girls read/watch it. Yes... it's strange though, that tis so well accepted in Japan, when it's not (almost not) accepted at all in (Sweden) and.. Europe and America?

I mean, even in Cardcaptor Sakura (kawaiii!) there are elements of shonen-ai, and that's a kids anime... ! Jeez, that's a little wierd, even to me... (It's this young dude falling in love with an older student...) So the japanese must be getting used to it at an early age, ne? That's WONDERFUL! *whishes she was japanese*

True; Sweden is also all about "fighting for the homosexuals" and gay rights and all that. We even have this super big gay festival each year... But still, people aren't really liberated at all and still think yaoi and shonen-ai is sick and strange. I just don't get it... :?

Actually, if you learn about Greek mythology, you'll get the boy stuff. After all, both Zeus and one of his sons, Apollo, had male lovers too (even though they changed it into "friend" in at least one of them).

The Greeks were so cool... I mean, their important gods even had homosexual tendencies...xDDD

I'm not sure about any of the other gods though...-ponders-

Maybe it's because gay men who write gay man stuff are getting a bit, erm, yeah when they write it and kind of yeah...? And same with lesbians who write lesbian stuff? ummm... no you obviously took the softer side of greek history/mythology... In Greece it was older men (much older... yucky wrinkly middle-aged men) and young boys (early teens)....... NOT SEXY!

Sure in the god stories it was all prettified and stuff but in actuality it was very traumatizing... to both the reader and young male XD

Actually, the Romans were also accepting homosexuality or bisexuality more openly. Many men had lovers who were younger men (boys?) and love between males was considered noble...

Err, actually, some of those relationships were based on love. Like Apollo and the two lovers I've heard he had.

And besides, at that time, things were WAY different. People from different cultures now-a-days from different parts of the world have different morals, so way back than, they thought this was the correct way to do it. They didn't consider it wrong and just because people now-a-days probably do, doesn't actually make it wrong. Especially since there are a lot of "wrong" things people do in modern times. So, lets clean our own doorstep first before beginning on another's, no?

And lastly, how do you know they didn't want it? We have no way of knowing and, if they didn't like it so much, then why would they continue on with the little "tradition"?

And, if you DO want to go psycho on ancient civilizations "wrong-doings", do it on the Romans. They were so much more "worse" than the Greeks could ever be.

Yes, you're probably a little right. But remember; (as Horizon said) that their morals and values were different, so what we might consider very VERY wrong now wasn't all that bad in the time of the greeks.
