That reminds me of something I learnt when I was writing my major essay at college;
The first synthesizer (called the 'Telharmonium'),made by Thadeus Cahill, weighed over 200 tons. Built near the beginning of last century, it required 2 whole railway carriages to be transported.....
What's wrong with that?
Peanuts when compared to what a lot of modern bands take on tour ...!
In my day - we used to shove everything onto the top of a car - and go! (Sigh...) ... but that was then ....!
Seriously - I like all kinds of music - all kinds - anything goes - (cough!)as long as it's .... not rap, not country ('real' "bluegrass" is OK), and not anything 'popular' recorded after about 1997! (Sad to relate). I don't know quite why the standard seems to be so low - or is it just me?
Fortunately, musical quality seems to be cyclical - I look forward to tomorrow's young artists.
Faves ... (Dat's a modern woid!)
All "classical" (with one or two exceptions - usually "Avant-Garde" - not musically educated enough, I guess!))
Early 20th Century (Not in the poll!) - Scott Joplin and Kurt Weill in particular.
1930's: Most of the great show tunes n'stuff!
1940's: Swing! Bennie Goodman, Miller,
et al Early Sinatra, Doris Day!
1950's: Buddy Holly, Everley Brothers, Eddie Cochrane, Haley ... all the old "real rockers"!
1960's: The list is too long! You all know them !
1970's: A lot of good stuff too - but disco was weird... I loathed it - but like it now! Go figure ...!
1980's: One or two good 'uns - but I'm getting older by now - still likedAC/DC, though! - and my kid is starting to introduce me to "Metal"!
1990's: Britney Spears jeans were impressive - her singing was not....!
Today? Still like the older stuff - and some good jazz out there - adore Diana Krall and Holley Cole, Blues (...BTW - did you know that legend 'Long John Baldry' recently passed away, in Vancouver - sad loss!)
But always .....
Jethro Tull!
