Are japanese scary movies really scary?

Hi! You might have heard about this movie, but do you know
"chakusin ari"? It means "incoming call" in English.
It's about mobile phone. The story is like "You get an incoming call
from your own number. If you pick up,you'll hear your voice that is screaming. The call is coming from 3days(not sure how many days it is)
later. Those who get the call, they die with exactly the same scream you heard"... sorry if you don't understand my English.
It sounds pretty cool.I want to see it!!
The director is Takashi Miike. I've seen his other movie called "Dead or Alive","The happiness of the Katakuris" and "Ichi the killer".
I liked them all. I didn't know that there are still some good movies in Japan.

😄 hi ya Ichi!

i cant say i heard of that movie if Miike Tackashi directed it but it sounds kool, although ive yet to watch my Phone Dvd because that movies kinda the same too!

ive seen alot of his other movies like Ichi and dead or alive but have you seen Audition? i posted a pic of it up earlier. cheak it out! ;)

japan has alot of good movies! it always had and your english is fine, no problems!!

Hi, monky magic

Yeah,I saw Audition in Ireland about a month ago.
It was showed on TV . I knew about that film, but when I first found the video in videoshop when I was in Japan,I wasn't interested at all.
Since I came here,I've been missing any Japanese stuff.
So,I watched it.
What I thought when finished watching is that "This director is sick!!"
but I liked it cause I like this kind of "extreme film".
Takashi Miike threw everything out of the window in the last 5 minutes!!
I want him to make more films like that!!

;)

TO ANYONE WHO HASENT SEEN AUDITION DONT READ THIS POST BECAUSE I SPOIL THE PLOT!

hey Ichi

so you miss japan when your here? i think thats kool cus your the first Japanese person i know that missed japan when here, all the others i know miss london now there back in japan! :)

well about Audition, i think its so much better than a extream movie, there is alot to think about and alot to take away from the movie and what i found was the more times i watched the better it got cus it made more sence everytime! i mean Japanese horror is about things that are supposed to be small, weak and vargile being very very dangerous! in this case the lady Asami, shes wearing white the first time you see her and shes look very delicate but at the end of the movie you know things are different and thats the scary part! also i like that she just was mixed up about the love the guy had for her, i mean they would have been together forever and very happy, its just she couldnt trust anyone!

thats what i love about it but i have to say so far all Miikes films are really different, there his styles but the feel is different.

Hi monkey magic!

I mean I miss my friends. Here,I'm still completely alone.
I do think Irish people are so friendly, but unfortunately,
there is no one who speak to me.
I've tried to talk to them, but they don't answer to me
like they do to everyone else. I feel sad when I see my classmates
are talking to each other and laughing without me.
But,I hope I'll be able to join them some day. So,I have to be optimistic.

Anyway,I agree with what you think about Audition.
I think it's the most popular film he's ever made so far.
And I really think his films are so different as well.
I couldn't believe that "Andromedia"was made by him.
Have you heard of this? It was a film about love...
I didn't like it at all. I liked Ichi the killer though.

Ichi the Killer is the 2nd best movie I've ever seen... it's simply amazing... anyone who hasn't seen it must..

ichi the killer is hot but i dont think his best film, i prefered Audition more but i missed 30 mins of Ichi when i went to watch it because i didnt eat enough in 24 hours and had been training so during the movie i felt faint and had to leave till i thought i was well enough, it was a small screen packed out so it was really hot too! the bits i missed was the mad fight Ichi has where he kicks off someones face and it slides down the wall! oh man! still to this day my best friend teases me saying i couldnt handle it and hadto leave! im like no way i wasnt well! but im getting the extended edition from my friend so i get to see everything this time! whooop!

>< you missed the face? No way lol... Audition... thought it was ok... but the beginningy-middle bit was a tad (dare I say it) boring at times...

yup i recently saw a pic of the face and im like no way!

because im studying to be a special effects dude and i love all things like that, non of the digital stuff but the hard core stuff and ichi was full of it! its ricked but about audition i liked the fact that the first 3/4 was the film was slow and normal, it makes what comes later alot more interesting, it lowers your gaurd so to speak because it is a romance film after all..... with a nasty twist! hahaa!

What did people think of DARK WATER i thought it had some well handled tense moments and that bit with near the end in the elevator was probably the scariest and freakiest bit of the movie, also saw EVIL DEAD TRAP recently anyone seen that? that was an impressive horror film certainly wasnt really scary but certainly vicious and violent in parts any one seen part 2?

For scary i'd say watch "JU-ON" or maybe even "Ringu." But for down right disturbing watch "Audition" or "Ichi the killer":D As for Dark Water i really enjoyed it, It was very good. Not what i'd call scary though.

On second thoughts yeah it wasnt really that scary though that bit in the elevator though certainly stuck out for me..... ICHI THE KILLER certainly disturbing though its one of the best films made by Takashi Miike, also AUDITION is a classic aswell....

what are you guys saying, Dark Waters was a really good movie, not as scary as Ringu but it was still scary, what about all those creepy bit with the girl being in one shot and not the next and ok i did jumo when i saw that bit with the elivator at the end but my scarest bit had to be when they where playing hid and seek and the little girl seens the ghost girl walk towards her. that was hot!

has anyone heard about the movie Three? its hot, ive mentioned it before but i found it scarier then Ringu. yes i said scarier then Ringu, its three seperate movies made by three countries, hong kong, thai land and korea, ok japan didnt get a shot at this movie, i dont know why but korea's movie was so scary, i was shaking when i saw it! HOT I TELL YOU! has anyone see pules? thats good but im not a big fan of Ju-on, it wasnt as good as everyone made it out to be but still is good though.

I liked Audition for it's sheer "creep-you-out" capacity. Starts off innocently enough like any other serious drama I suppose... but soon turns into a dark downward spiral into depravity. Good stuff.
:)

a few people had heart attack while watching Ringu
some people puked
some people fainted

ringu works best at home on a normal TV, i think thats gots the full effect baby!

yay!!! I have Uzumaki here on DVD next to me at work... *sshh* Im going to see if i can cheekily watch some of it here ...hehe...

Porl''

I still remember the first night after we watched the ring. I was tuning in a new vcr when there was a burst of static just like in the movie. You could've heard the missus screaming ten blocks away!:giggle:

hahaha!!! :D

Yeah, i didn't sleep very well the night i watched The Ring. I tried to go to sleep straight after turning off the DVD but the tv still had some current in it i think as the screen wasn't completely black...had the light grey light coming from it as it does....looked pretty flippin spooky coming through my cabinet doors... eep..

MonkeyMagic : There is a Manga for Uzumaki? .. I've watched about 15minutes of it so far. Its filmed and edited in a weird way..with kinda kids programs music to it.. well to me it seems like that. Its reminding me of a japanese version of Eerie Indiana at the minute. which isn't a bad thing as i used to like that show. ;)

hi Porl!

uzumaki is based on comic books by Junji ito! :P
