わたしは先生に旅行の写真を見せていただきました。

I was pretty sure this sentence meant "the teacher showed me pictures of the trip".

Google Translate backs that up, but DeepL, which is often very intuitive, says it means "I showed the teacher pictures of the trip". For some reason, when I remove the わたしは, DeepL recovers its sanity.

Why would わたしは confuse DeepL to such an extent? Any thoughts?

The only thing I can think of is that in that instance DeepL was prioritizing word order, rather than the effect of the いただきました.
わたしは先生に旅行の写真を見せて leads DeepL in one direction, and it doesn't self-correct when it reaches いただきました.
