Is 残りを皿ごと saying that he passed the plate along with the remaining crumpet(s) to Harry?


2. ハリーはにわかには信じられず、何かしゃべろうと口を開けて はみたものの、言葉がみつからず、また口を閉じた。

Is this みた as in "tried"?


3. 「君、君、当省はあんなちっぽけなことで君を罰したり ません！」

a) I seem to be having a bit of a blank with 罰したりません. I know 罰する. Could it be たる as in 足る?

b) When addressing someone, and not as a suffix to a name, is 君 always pronounced きみ？


4. 不偏不党の精神で、などとかっこ付けているけど、結局 のところ自分の意見を持っていな いだけじゃないの。

Assuming I have parsed it correctly, what does かっこ付ける mean?
