Hi
1. The speaker is looking for a job:
今日も会社まわりしてきたんですけど、この不景気でし ょ。
a) In the first part, does まわりして (= まわり・して?) mean something like go from place to place (in this case, company to company)? Does きた mean that the speaker has been doing this in the recent past / just come from doing it?
b) Does この不景気でしょ imply "(it's) probably (because of) this recession (that I can't find a job)"?
2. Same guy looking for work:
こんなんじゃ大学卒業しても・・・。なんていろいろ考 えちゃって。
a) Does こんなんじゃ = こんなのでは? Does the first sentence mean "It's like this (= can't find a job) even though I'm a graduate"?
b) Though I recognise the individual words of the second sentence, I don't have an idea of the overall meaning.
My translation: "It's very hard to express your views in front of everyone."
Is のって = の (nominalising or pronoun) + って (essentially marking topic)?
4. This is about a teacher in the aftermath of an earthquake who is, as I understand it, temporarily staying at the school:
寝泊りしながら、避難中の約五百人の住民の世話に追わ れた。心配だった児童らには一人の犠牲者もなく、胸をなで下ろした。
My translation: "While she was staying there, she was pressed into service to help about 500 evacuees from the town. She was relieved that none of the children she had been concerned about were victims."
a) Does 中 in 避難中 mean that the 約五百人 were part of the 避難の住民?
b) Does 心配だった modify 児童ら to give the meaning as in my translation?
5. The school has reopened after the earthquake, and the teacher, who has lost her daughter, is taking class.
Out of this I get: "Only as she began speaking in front of the children was her (deceased) daughter forgotten. Probably the children (in the class) were worried about her."
a) Are there any connotations of 声を上げる, or does it just mean she was addressing the class?
b) Does だけ mean this was the only/first time that she was able to stop thinking about her daughter?
c) What connection does the second sentence have to the first? What was it that the children might be worried about? Why is this relevant?
