Hi,

1. 旅行会社のミスで、予約してあったはずの飛行機が予約されていなかった。

My translation: "Because of the travel agency's mistake, the flight reservation that should have been made was not."

Is あった = 在った, adding a sense a bit like the English perfect tense?

2. いくら言ってもわからないやつだ。今度という今度は、本当に ( )。

The gap ( ... ) is to be completed with a suitable expression describing some emotion.

I believe the first part means "However many times I say it, he/she doesn't understand." I don't understand 今度という今度 though. What does this mean?

3. 偏光板の時は、まず偏光板をつけ上に保護板(透明アクリル板)をつけセットします。

Translation given: "When attaching a polarizing plate (PL), set it first and then attach a protective plate (a clear acrylic plate)."

a) Does 上に describe the physical position of 保護板 relative to 偏光板?

b) Is まず偏光板をつけ(る) one clause, 保護板(透明アクリル板)をつけ(る) another, and セットします a third? Or is つけセットしますa compound verb? In the latter case, does セットします apply to both つけs, or only the second?

4. ここに出て来た表現も含めて、怒っていることを表すのにどのような言葉があるか、考えて、リストを作ってみましょう。

My translation: "Think about what kind of words express anger, including the expressions shown here [in the previous section], and make a list".

a) Does ここに出て来た表現も含めて mean "(also) including the expressions shown here", i.e. the student should include those expressions in his or her list?

b) Does も imply that the ここに出て来た表現 are in addition to other words that the student may find?

c) I am not very confident I understand the purpose of のに. Is の a pronoun? What is the purpose of に? Does it have the sense that the 言葉 in question "belong to" 怒っていることを表すの?

5. 桜井 calls on his friend 足立, who (as far as I can tell) invites him in with ま、あがれよ。 Later, his friend is asking him what's happened, and says 言えよ.

Are あがれよ and 言えよ strong imperatives followed by よ for emphasis? I guess they would be OK then to use between close friends (I mean, not rude)?

1)
Yes.

2)
Emphasized "this time"; truly this time

3) a)
Yes.

b)
The former.

4) a) b)
Yes.

c)
Yes, の is a pronoun corresponding to 言葉, and に is similar to ~の中に.

5)
Yes, your interpretation is correct. Those expressions are used by male between close friends or lovers.

Hi Toritoribe, thanks for your help (lots of "yeses", that's what I like!)
