hey guys how are you doing with your applications?
I finally got deadline date *July 3rd* so I can finally relax..a little bit *not that much since I'm busy that date so I'm trying to submit this week :c*
I'm only missing the field of study form *everyone struggles with that one so I don't feel alone on that part haha*
my only concern is that the date where they annouce who passed the preliminary phase is on July 27th
that's close to summer vacation in Japan, isn't it? as far as I know schools close for a while during that period :/

anyway, hope everyone is taking care of any final tweaks
and if your deadline already passed, hopefully you got your exam/interview notification

Hey everyone! I'm thinking about applying to this scholarship too, as a Research Student, but I'm wondering if I can do it this year or have to wait for the next. I still have one semester left at uni, with one subject only, and it goes from September to January. Has anyone here been in this kind of situation (applying without having graduated yet)?

the application guideline states that as long you graduate by March 2016 in this case, there shouldn't be any problem. When you get your degree, you submitted. *the deadline closes a few days before my graduation so I'm in a kinda similar situation*
I think it would be better to wait till next year, since you finish that subject on January

Thank you for your reply! I've sent an e-mail to the embassy in my country just to be sure. Part of me really wants to apply this year, but another part is telling me to just focus on that subject and then use the rest of time to prepare a good application. *feeling very unsure*

I am! I'm applying for digital illustration/motion graphics. My undergrad degree is in studio art and I'm currently employed as a graphic designer.

Just one, Keio University. I'm not terribly optimistic about the MEXT scholarship because Keio is so expensive as a private school, but it's the only school I'm interested in, so I figured... Why not give it a shot?

They said 3 options so kyoto seika, koyto zokei and nagoya zokei. I really hope i get into my first option. it's a public school with a really good program

Yeah, ask your embassy. Here in Mexico they told us to skip the envelope part because we had to submit copies.

I asked my embassy what's the deal with the copies (if they had to be put in the envelope), they told me only the original had to be in the envelope. I thought it was weird because I was obviously the one making the copies, so what was the point in sealing it, but whatever.

Since then, another professor agreed to advise me. Through my email exchanges with him, I now have a strong desire to study under him. The problem is that I didn't indicated his university as one of the three choices. Can anybody give me any advice regarding this? Are my choices limited to the three I indicated on the form?

In some consulates and embassies you're only required to submit the placement request form after you've passed the interview. I would think that you will be able to change what you've written on the form at a later stage. From what I understand, they won't submit the placement request to MEXT till later. You will have to obtain a letter of acceptance from the universities before that process as well (seems like late July to August in most cases).

You can always check with the consulate just in case.

I don't know what you are talking about. There are only 2 scholarships: undergrad and research student (that may link you to master and/or PhD). For the later (research student/graduate level) there is only one English exam, the general one… It doesn't matter if want to go into master or PhD.

My app deadline was on June 5th and I submitted that day. I got word back on June 11th.

Hey guys, I'm curious about something. I've noticed that almost everyone (if not everyone) has written proposals related to Japan, like stuff about manga, temples, etc. But is it possible to get the scholarship when your proposal doesn't scream Japan but Japan is still the best place to do it? Like it is better developed in Japan but not exclusively Japan related.
I'm just curious, since I've already submitted my application.

By the way, I was already notified about the exams and interview dates. Good luck to the ones who have to go this week to embassy.

I have a friend who is now in doctoral studies, architecture, Mie University. He got JP stipendy, 140.000Y a month and subsidised accomoddation (15,000Y a month).
Prior, he had failed 2 times the Japanese test, then he won. He is here now, doing his disertation.
