MEXT Scholarship 2016 (Research)

Hey guys! Even i have applied for the research student Scholarship from india! What are the chances of getting selected for this Scholarship? (I am so so so nervous about it!) I already have a prospective guide/professor but the online application didnot have any space for mentioning that :whistling: any idea when the embassy will announce the result of primary screening?:nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting:

hii ... i'm a Tunisian biology student , i want to apply for the MEXT scholarship and i'm having hard time with the research proporsal , because here in Tunisia the research project for master degre is handed to us from the advisor , so i'm not confident if i can come up with something interesting and concrete before the application deadline .

Hello!! i finish my research proposal, at the end i didn't include statistics analysis because i'm really bad with those, but i only have 3 days to get acceptance for 3 professors, i'm all stress out, do Japanese Universities work on Saturday? anyway, i think the embassy format goes like this:

1) Present field of study: Talk about your career, thesis, previous research.
2) Your research topic upon arrival in Japan: The whole research proposal except for the timetable
4) Study program in Japan:Timetable

Something like that i think. =)

do we HAVE to get 3 professors ? or just 1 will do?

it all depends on how many are selected *in my country is only 2 as far as i know- I'm sure in other countries such as US they select more people*

If someone received the research student scholarship and doesn't enroll in school, what happens? You have an advisor at a university -- are you technically a member of that university, then? I assume you would get to use that advisor's facilities, including the university library and laboratory... I wonder if you get a student ID/get to stay in student housing?

And after the two years ends, what happens with your research? Does the Japanese education ministry have to evaluate it at all?

Sorry if these are obvious questions, but I almost everything I've read talks about: get the scholarship -> enroll in school -> get your scholarship changed to grad student status and then you attend graduate school like normal. I'm wonder what happens if you don't do that last part...

I re-read the guidelines after posting that question and it was a bit more clear, yeah. Thank you so much for helping me grasp it!

I think I am struggling to understand because I haven't come across purely research students before in my schooling; everyone is on track to earn a degree. It almost seems wasteful for MEXT to spend all of this money on tuition and fees when the student doesn't get a degree at the end!

That being said, I'm considering going that route entirely, because getting to focus completely on my own project for 2 years seems like an amazing opportunity...

@SayuKami21 i think all countries have the same process for the postgraduate scholarship, where you first have to be selected as a research student and then seek entrance to the school through the masters o doctorate admition process.

I have not seen the scholarship being able to be used to do a residency. All I know is that it is only granted for full studies.

Hi there again. I really just want to work on the proposal and contact professors until i finish it. I wouldn't want them to think my proposal is half hearted since it's not finished yet. I think contacting them on April will be my objective.

Wow, so ahead in the process. In Mexico today was the last day to submit papers to the Foreign Relations Ministry. Tests will be conducted the 22nd of June to the preselected applicants.

In Nigeria, 30th June is the deadline. I still have about a full month.
Must I secure an admission before I apply for MEXT Scholarship?

You can't get a letter of acceptance before the preliminary selection. But you are expected to contact the proffesors to get an informal acceptance that they would be willing to be your advisors.

yes you can apply directy to the masters/PhD- your advisor might help you on deciding if you want to take that time to adapt/study Japanese or not

I started this post thinking about my grades and if they would reject me because of that and I realized I'm really anxious so I started to wonder endlessly about stupid things. Because in the end, I can't know what will happen.
So I wish everyone good luck, the deadline in my country is approaching, so I'll tell you how it went later.
By the way, I realized that someone asked (long ago) about the selection process when I responded to their post, in my country at least, the first screening includes the interview and exams, plus the proposal. They consider everything, so there is no such thing as getting rejected first when submitting everything. Buuut someone told me that when you get to the interview, it seems like they kinda already know who will get the scholarship.
I'm sleepy and tired, sorry if you don't get what I mean.

Looks like Ohio is under the jurisdiction of the Detroit consulate: MEXT Scholarships | Consulate-General of Japan in Detroit

Your application is due June 10th! It's June 17th for Houston. I didn't realize it would be different depending on the state, eek...

Please write your full name above. Give this form and one of the envelopes marked "confidential" and addressed to yourself to the person you have asked to recommend you. Ask this person to place the completed form in the envelope, seal the envelope, sign across the seal, and send it back to you. Return the unopened envelope with your application.
It says "and send it back to you" not "give it back." Like they literaly have to put a stamp and send it to me. Giving it to directly to me isn't enough?
I feel like I'm asking a very dumb question but I've never heard of this before. Anyway, why I'm asking this? Because they asked for two copies, so how I'm supposed to make copies when the original is sealed. And I guess I shouldn't put them in an envelope, that's just for the original.

Does not have to be postmarked (note I am Canadian and remember that every nation has a different set of particularities and interpretations of the rules).

EDIT: your followup question - I brought it sealed to the consulate before copies were made. It is imperative that it is sealed at that point for obvious reasons.

Yeah, ask your embassy. Here in Mexico they told us to skip the envelope part because we had to submit copies.
