Studying Japanese Vocabulary

Hello to all...

In my studies, I've managed to create an extensive database of Japanese vocabulary. I made a site that presents these words in various ways depending on how the user wants to study (kanji, romaji, and so on.). Currently, I am only displacing around 2,000 words... but another 6,000 are on the way

Any advice on how to make the site better please let me know. Otherwise, happy studying

I clicked "show kanji," but there still weren't kanji for some words, for example 乾燥機.

stop recommending vocab sites, they are useless. The best to learn vocab is reading.

really? Reading Japanese to improve vocabulary is bad advice. But randomly encountering words from a computer generated program so that you don't know how to use the word in actual context is a good advice.

Reading not only have you to gain vocabulary, how to use the word in context, you also learn grammar, knowledge and general comprehension. And most importantly, reading is fun.

Not to be rude, but yeah those vocabulary sites is nothing but a waste of time, it's just a electronic flash card system.

why would I want to go to a Java based flash card system that can not even save my own vocab after closing the browser, that's lame upon uselessness.

There are plenty better spaced repetition application out there on Windows/iPhone/iPad/Android that can

1. save vocab. (that's the whole point of the repetition system, you want to be reminded of words from a reading last week)
2. portable. (be able to carry vocabs with you all the time)

Therefore, not only is site useless, it's not even practical.

And you still haven't checked the one you're talking about (there are no flash cards at all). ;-)
But anyway if you're experienced with the ones you enlisted, please suggest me a good one for Android.

In order to read you have to have knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, etc to begin with. What you're talking about is decoding text by looking everything up. That isn't reading. You end up spending time decoding words that you have no idea if they are useful/commonplace or not until after you have invested the time and effort to look them up.

I agree that random lists are also pretty useless. It is far better to learn vocabulary based on how common and useful it is, getting the most useful stuff first and leaving the rarely used stuff for much later.

try Anki, they have been around for ages.

I haven't used flashcard a while now so I don't know how the industry is now. From the link above. It seems that Anki and Mnemosyne are the only two on the market that are both open source and available for Android (I use android myself). I am sure you can link your phone with your PC.
