I had a weird dream again last night (two actually), and I'm having strange dreams a lot lately, so I thought I'd start a thread about it. I would love to hear about other people's dreams too.

My first dream was me being on a trip with some members of my family. I remember we were in a tram when suddenly a message was broadcasted about some terrorist being identified. Apparently a terrorist was on the loose and the announcement was about his description.

We wanted to leave the tram, because we reached our stop, when I came face to face with a man, who did not look like the description at all. But anyway, he stared at me in a hostile way and made clear he was the one they were looking for!! We got in a little struggle and when I "woke up" I had lost my legs!! Apparently, the man blew himself up so I was happy to be alive.

Anyways, they made me some prosthetic legs at the hospital, and although they made a bit shorter, I could walk fine with those!! It really made me feel happy and I walked around with some friends of mine, and it really felt good. It was actually one of the few dreams I felt good about when I really woke up.

My second dream was about me enterting a supermarket, where I suddenly was threatened with a gun by some bloke. I grabbed the gun in an instant and shot the guy, in the head. I didn't know what to do, so I walked to the cassier, and he told me I should go to the police.

I didn't want to go to the police so I resumed my shopping, when I suddenly saw four big guys entering a toilet, and taking a old Chinese man by force. I was hiding when it all happened, and when I took a look at the toilet later a police man approached me!! Luckily he didn't ask me anything about me shooting another guy in the head, so I said I didn't know anything about the situation and basically escaped.

When I "woke up" I was in my home and feeling really bad because I didn't know what to do with the gun!! I also figured they must have lots of cameras in the supermarket so they are bound to find out my identity one of these days. I decided to dismantle the gun and try to throw it away when I woke up to reality..

The second dream kind of ruined my feel-good mood of the first dream, which kind of pissed me off!! 😌

So has anyone else had any weird dreams lately? What do you think they mean? I personally think that dreams do not necessarily have a meaning, but are just a way for your brain to clean up the mess in your head. Kind of like the defragmentation of a hard drive. 😊

Very interesting, leonmarino! As someone who majored in psychology, I would have to look at your dreams in an interpretive way. Here's one interpretation (hope you don't mind): You feel threatened by someone or something (a "bad guy" could represent something else like a group of people or a place or even an idea) that tries to bring you down, but you end up being the victor.

I also have very strange dreams sometimes, but I can't remember one now. I'll post about one if I do! Very interesting subject!

My weirdest dream was so weird that I can't even tell you guys haha.

The few dreams I remember.....

seemed to be based on something that is bothering me in real day to day life; but get mixed up with TV shows I watch. So, say I'm worrying about a tooth that is hurting in real life, I dream I'm in a fight with gangsters(like Sapranos) where I lose the tooth. Glad I don't remember too many of my weird dreams!

Uncle Frank

😊

I sometimes dream about people I met in the past, for example a couple of years ago I dreamed about someone from elementary school which was 10 years before the dream, and it makes me wonder why?

I once heard/read (I can't remember well), that when you are dreaming you are actually cleaning/organizing your memories.

Thanks for the interpretation!! I believe there are even people specialized in analyzing dreams. A friend of mine.. Well, my ex-girlfriend had a dream once, before she became my girlfriend about us riding bicycles and me hitting her with a shoe or something. She went to a specialist to have her dream analyzed and there were two possibilities:
  1. I was trying to kill her in real life
  2. She felt a passionate love for me
Now, I don't know how the guy came to the second possibility but I guess he was right. :D

A while ago when I was experiencing a lot of stress because of my study, I used to see a lot of dreams about war and such.. I even died in one of them. It was a very nasty period for me and my dreams reflected and even worsened the overall feeling I had.. To me it is obvious that everyday troubles which you haven't dealt with properly may come up in your dreams.

Had a weird dream again today.. I can only remember bits and pieces, but most of 'em were no fun. One funny thing I remember is me being at a train station, and I wanted to know something about the time schedule, so I walked up to an attendent working there. She was talking to someone else at first so I waited, and while I was waiting some other dude came with a bag which he probably wanted to bring to the "lost and found". I took a quick glance at the bag and it was full of DVD's. So I said to the guy "why don't you watch all the DVD's first, before you bring it to lost and found?" He thought about it for a second.. And said "well yeah that's a good idea!" and walked off with the bag.. :D

I'm a nice guy in real life I swear!! 😌

A good topic as well !! There is one good theory out--and the book's at the office so I don't have it here--that seems to hold up a lot better than the old Freudian and Gung stuff. I'll try to get around to posting some of the observations and tests results from the studies of that psychologist.

I once heard/read (I can't remember well), that when you are dreaming you are actually cleaning/organizing your memories.

Yes, this is what you hear about in the science circles. I'll see if I can pull some of the old articles on that as well.

The basis idea of the above mentioned theory, and the way that it intersects with the below understanding, is that this is one way of maintaining mental clarity--or to keep from going off the deep end. The days events are very much played out, but in masks and covers. Anyway, I'll try to get back during the up coming week or so. In the meantime...sweet dreams !! MM

I have had many dreams about being in the Philippines or in Japan. What is most strange about these dreams is that although I am supposedly in a place where I was in real life (nearly always Olongapo or Yokosuka), the places in my dreams never look like the places as they actually were. In fact, they usually look quite different, although I "know" that I am in Olongapo or Yokosuka (or sometimes Manila or other places).

This will not sound believable to most people, but several years before I knew that the Prince Hotel chain had built a hotel in Yokosuka I had a dream in which I was looking around a very large hotel north of Shioiri Station. That is where the Yokosuka Prince Hotel is, as I later learned.

This could be symbolizing something, like maybe you were giving the guy some advice to find out about something before "giving it away". Sometimes something like this that would be immoral in real life is just a symbol of something else.

I can identify with just about everyone's posts about their dreams. I also have movies I've just watched sometimes intertwined in my dreams, and sometimes I dream about someone from my past that I haven't thought about in years.

I've been having dreams lately about fish and aquariums (I have a pleco, Crusty, in a 75-gallon tank). Sometimes Crusty is in the dream, and sometimes there are other plecos that I didn't realize I had. Usually it's stressful, like I suddenly realize I have this huge aquarium and haven't fed the fish, or it doesn't have enough water, or I discover several more aquariums in another room that I'd forgotten I had. Sometimes it's a nice dream about Crusty being out of the tank (in the dream this doesn't seem to bother him!) and we're doing things together like he's a dog or cat.

It's easy to imagine how harmful it could be to not get enough sleep - if our minds need to sift through all this stuff, what happens when people don't sleep?? :eek2:

I regularly have quite bizzare, random, and quite often freaky dreams. Blame my overactive imagination, I guess!

I one of them, I had a daughter. A tiny daughter, literally. She could fit into my pocket, and I would carry her in there. She had long straight black hair, an English schoolgirls uniform on, and the oddest feature, was that she was completely devoid of any facial features. No nose, no eyes, no mouth. It was as though a whole new fold of skin had came over her features and covered them.
Being devoid of a mouth, she couldn't speak, so she would communicate with me by dipping her finger into a bottle of ink that she carried around with her, and writing on the floor with her finger.

And that's nowhere near the strangest I've had. This thread has made me want to dig out my dream diary! ^-^

Very interesting, Mothling! A Freudian interpretation might be that your inner child hasn't been given a voice, but it's trying to communicate with you in another way. Hope no one minds these interpretations! I'm certainly not a professional, so this is just a layperson's opinion!

I remember a recurring dream (supposedly the most revealing!) I had when I was a child - I would be riding in the back seat of my parents' VW bug, enjoying looking out the window at things going past. Then I asked my parents something, looked into the front seats, and no one was driving! No one was in either the driver's or passenger seat, and the car was driving itself, the steering wheel moving to make turns. Needless to say, I was horrified at this and expected to have an accident at any time. But in one dream I remember thinking, "I haven't had an accident yet, so it doesn't mean I'll have one just because I'm suddenly scared." I always woke up at this point. Any interpretations?!

I would tend to side with the argument that the interpreter would have to have more information about the dreamers real life and recent events as well as events that the dreamer knows are coming up, and which could be causing some stress.

And, I noticed a mistake in my last post, and instead of just editing it, will correct it here, that's Jung, not Gung. Sorry.

Well i like to share my dream too,

Lets begin with the begin: we start a month ago, the first time I entered for the music world, i started a duette with a schoolmate of mine he called our ''duette'' S-FLu an inspiration of M-flo but with another vision on Japanese Music. after some weeks we found other people who wanna join our band. 1 girl and 4 boys. But because they didn't gave me any attention or never did a meeting with me, i quitted the band.

i went to my best friend,a girl i met since i came for the first time in Belgium, and she helped me out with searching other bands after my school time and also in my free time i've decided to make some lyrics and she read my lyrics and she said said to me: why doing J-HipHop, there isn't any belgian listening to this genre, you know what Shin??(my name) i've read your lyrics and i think its better you turn on J-pop, and since that day i've started to search an unknown jpop band (just a bunch of students with great talents) and i found one: Aisukuri-mu they call themself. I've decided to give it a shorter name because we sound a little bit icy :p so i gaved it a nickname: Furacha.

Furacha?? yes Furacha!! Because i'm a very huge fan of Ai Otsuka! and her only dorama she ever did was Tokyo Friends. And in that serie another band where Ai Otsuka's boyfriend (in the serie) is into is called Flower Chilz, but they also called it Furacha. And now i use it just as a nickname not as our band name:p

but what does it have to do with my dream??
well, i dreamed i was in the serie, that i was myself, but i was a friend of Ai Otsuka and Eita the guy who played Ai-chan her boyfriend, i was a guitarist of the band were he was also: Furacha, i dreamed i was famous. I dreamed of a nice world, At day i was Guitarist and a lyricwriter(like i really am in real life) and at night i was a cook in the bar that they used in the serie.

I really thought i was in the dorama, i faced a lot of things with them and faced alot of problems. And after a huge success and after the breakup of Ai and Eita, i left them, and with this i woke up :p

Well, i must say it was a nice experience.

Dreaming isn't always bad. 👍

Sayonara!! Minnasan Gambatte ne!!

I remember a recurring dream (supposedly the most revealing!) ... Any interpretations?!
One could think of many things, like letting go of those things that have always been there, being on a journey of uncertainty, etc. The thing is that at one point all these explanations might start to sound like any Tarot laying of cards; every statement has some sort of truth in it because when you look deep enough inside yourself you will find that there is some truth to any explanation.

I might compare it with proverbs: if someone says "distance makes the heart grow fonder" you might remember an instance in which that was true: "oh yeah I remember when XXX moved to YYY, I missed him/her very much!!" If on another occasion the proverb "out of sight, out of mind" is muttered, you might recall something else: "it's been a while since ZZZ moved out of town, but I don't think about him/her that often!!"

Not to say that insights gathered gained by interpretations of dreams (be it reliable or completely false) are bad per se. I think any kind of aid that reveals a glimpse of your inner self can be very meaningful. :-)

Yes, that's true - we can gain insight from any interpretation. Another recurring dream I still have (with variations) is that I'm back in college and everything is chaos - I don't know where my classes are, I'm not prepared for tests, I'm taking lots of difficult classes that I never took in real life (like physics), I"m on a bike and the class is a long way away, or there are crowds of people outside or in the cafeteria and everything is confusion!

I first posted this almost two years ago, but thought I'd put here to get some fresh viewpoints:

In this dream, I take the train up to New York City (little under two hours away from Philly) on a Saturday to spend the day goofing off. My first stop when I go to NYC is a comic book shop on 33rd street across from the Empire State Building, when I approached the shop, standing next to the door is a gorgeous Japanese woman with waist long hair and dressed in a traditional kimono. New Yorkers, being the jaded lot they are don't give her so much as a second glance as she's looking around her as if she's waiting for someone, but she caught my attention instantly.

When the woman sees me, she breaks out in a huge smile and bows to me. Puzzled as hell since I've never seen this woman in my life. I ask if she knows me, she says she doesn't, but she's seen me in her dreams for months, and was determined to find me, adding that intuition told her I'd come to the city on this very day, and to that comic shop at that very time. Still puzzled, I stammer that it's amazing, still smiling, she nods, tells me her name is Mariko, and that she was deeply in love with me and she came all the way to the States from Japan because she was destined by fate to become my wife!

And that was then that I woke up, startled as all get out. Now that was an absolutely incredible dream since I've always been of the opinion that no woman in her right mind would want to marry a hopeless loser like me, least of all an attractive and cultured looking Japanese woman like the one from my dream. Oh, by the way, the whole time I spoke to Mariko, it was in perfect Japanese, and I'm by no means fluent when it comes to languages. Opinions, folks?

I would be willing to give it a shot, but I'd have to know what kind of things had been happening in your life around that time, what kind of appointments you had had line up for the next few days, and especially, what type of secret longings had been on your mind around that time. AND...that's the problem. a person could trust their shrink and spill all that information out, but otherwise? Well. . . I wish I could pin it down, but I'm afraid it'd be too hard. Sorry. MM

That's a very interesting dream you got there Flashjeff!! As in many dreams it can mean a lot of things, and I agree with MarsMan that there is need of some background information to assess it correctly..

What do you think it means? Have you talked about it with anyone close to you?

Opinions, folks?

I don't want to put people off posting their dreams by trying to interpret things they don't want interpreted - but since you asked .....

Maybe this means that your "partner in life" will find you and not the other way around, and that you will be able to communicate without difficulty even if you both speak different languages. The comic book store must mean something - maybe that your meeting will take place around some comedy going on?

More details would be helpful, though - is the comic book store a place you've gone before? Does it mean anything significant to you? What were the feelings in the dream - were you glad to see this woman (it sounds like you were mostly surprised)? What are your feelings about Japan or Japanese things or people? Does Japan symbolize anything to you? Maybe this means that you have some lifelong commitment to something Japanese that you didn't realize you had - something that's as attractive to you as a cultured and beautiful Japanese lady.

A dream this vivid must mean something! Lots of good details!

While applaud you on your effort to go for an interpretation, sarapva san, I'd like to suggest, if I may, that it may be good to not be too hasty in allowing the brain to see any need for future projection--as though there were any prediction/forcast involved.

I know that Jung was a bit into this as well, as with his concept of collective conscious, but I would tend to agree with the findings of neurology and evolutionary psychology that have put the most basic foundation for that concept, to rest.

The Japanese girl in the dream could have very well been mirrowing Jeff himself, telling him something about a virtually sub-conscious emotion of good self-esteem that had not been released during the course of that particular day.

Let's hope that Flashjeff will come back and give us more information. MM

I've been having some dreams lately that are related, but not recurring. They usually go something like this:

A group of my friends and I will be about to head off to some big event, be it a party or a concert or whatnot, and they'll all be waiting for me. Me, being the procrastinator I am, will find something that has my interest, and tell them to hold on for just a minute. I'll end up getting so caught up in whatever I'm doing that they'll leave without me.

Usually the only parts of the dream that are very different are the location and what distracts me. From what I can remember, these are the pairings of places + distractions.
1. a wide room with a low, white ceiling + A piece of soft fabric....
2. My room + my deceased grandfather's accordion
3. My basement + some glass bauble

Pretty strange, ne?

On that note, has anyone ever experienced dreams that end up actually happening in real life?

I have on more than one occasion, but only once was it really close enough to say that there was any significant relation between the prior dream, and the actual event.

The elements that were to unfold were as follows:

A particular uncle on my mother's side of the family
A particular location down at a pool in a creek behind my great aunt's house out in the far countryside

The cause and type of injury--a fall; a head injury

I cannot recall the precise length of time between the dream itself, and the event which matched the dream, but it was around two to three weeks later.

If there were any explanation for this, beyond paranormal--which is yet to be defined, really--I would tend to say that it could have it causes rooted in the essence of time.

In scientific, laced with philosophical theories, time could be thought of as a singular present, wherein our brains have an illusion of a flow. The flow is interpreted by changes seen due to entropy. This could be something related to the concept of synchronicity--not that any prediction or forcasting had occured, but simply that information particles had been exchanged.

You guys have such interesting dreams. I rarely dream anymore, and when I do, most of them involve me posting on 2ch or PoFo.

I've had dreams that seemed to clarify a situation for me, not necessarily dreaming what happened later. But my grandmother used to dream about the future. I can see you're a scientific person, Mars Man - I really don't have any explanations for "seeing" the future or even if "the future" exists separately from the present. But my grandmother dreamed once that my father (her son) was standing on the side of the road next to his car, wearing a brown and white checkered shirt. Not long after, my father had a car accident and was actually standing on the side of the road wearing a brown and white checkered shirt. My grandmother also dreamed that someone she knew won a lottery or contest, and persuaded that person to get a ticket - that person did actually win. These were not "tall tales" passed down in the family - I remember my grandmother talking very seriously about these things.
