I have been recently cleaning up some of the threads in the music section and have noticed on subject that comes up on a regular basis are the instruments you either play or are learning to play. Rather than have the threads go off topic this threads is for those who like to discuss their favoured instruments and what they play or would like to play. Apart from the poll it would be nice to know why that instrument and is it easy or hard. Even the type of music you normally play would be nice to know. Knowing most of the players it would most likely be pop or rock, but I bet there are some of you are pretty mean classical players

hum... I think i'm first one to vote :D I voted for guitar :) I'm only learning to play it so I'm kind of beginner :) I have a simple classical guitar :) which is ok at the begining and I'm kinda learning mostly classical songs :P when I started learning few I understood that classical music is much better than I though it is :D I think that here will be a lot of guitar players with different opinons but I think that it's not that hard to learn playing guitar at least in comparison with other instruments like violin or piano just you need to have some time and patience :D

I've played the guitar since... not exactly since I was born, but as near as was physically possible. :D I didn't start to take it seriously until I was 15, though. My dad taught me, but I never had formal lessons. I started off learning the steel-strung acoustic, and got an electric guitar when I was 16. I play blues, ragtime, folk, rock, metal, and my own random unclassifiable invented noise. :D

I played the flute for 8 years and got as far as passing Grade 8 (the highest of the numbered RSM grades). As part of this, I also took Music Theory up to Grade 5 (this was compulsory before you could pass to Grade 6 of the practical exams). So although I never had formal guitar lessons, the music theory was helpful for that, as well. :) I used to enter competitions as solo, duet, trio and part of an ensemble, which was really fun. On the flute I played classical, jazz and some... how do you call them? songs from the shows, and light stuff. 👍

When I was 19 I started singing lessons which I carried on for 2 years but didn't take any grades. I've always enjoyed singing and I still love it. The lessons were really fun, and the techniques are of course still useful to me now. :) My singing teacher was 'operatic', and also for fun I used to sing the alto part in a 4-part choir, which sung religious music and light songs from shows and old-fashioned popular music.

I haven't played the flute for a long time, but continue to play the guitar (electric and acoustic) and sing. I'm also teaching myself to play the keyboards (can't afford a piano, sadly). Music theory is helpful with that, too, as it means I can read the bass clef without too much effort. :)

I've dabbled in the recorder (descant and treble) and the Irish tin whistle, but I wouldn't exactly say I could 'play' them! :D

I haven't made a comment myself. Make a poll, should comment. I only sing, and then in musicals at amateur productions (Bugsy Malone is the next one) and G&S operettas. My music ability only goes as far as one hand on the piano and working through music with difficulty. I admit I was lazy when it came to music. More annoying is the fact my brother has a natural talent for music. He play the Keyboard, Piano, (he bought an electric one, very nice), recorder, trombone (the only instrument in which he actually studied to get a grade) and saxophone. Because of his trombone he once picked up a trumpet, experimented with it for a couple of minutes and then played a tune:eek: . He owns a set of bagpipes, an occarina, guitar plus god knows what else. Most likely gets it from my mothers side of the family, as my father can just about play a radio.

I can play drums and piano 👍
What, drummers actually play their instruments?:D

I'm learning to play the violin:p I have been taking lessons for about 18 months now, so I'm just a beginner, but I like it a lot. Although it is pretty difficult😌

lol
well... i've had lessons in Piano, Recorder, Saxaphone, Clarinet and Violin, however i failed terribly at the Violin ^^;

i taught myself the guitar very poorly...
i can get by if i'm taught the riff or whatever...
(so i didn't include it in the poll cos it doesn't count)

i've been singing in a clasical choir now for nearly 4 years... and i've recently been asked to be the dinger or a synth pop band so... yayness XD
i've never had lessons as such, but we get coaching in the choir.

Oooh, you're joining a band as singer now Furan! That's cool! :)

I'm guesting as a 'spare' member of my pal's band The 21st Cherry Boys - he's in the throes of exams at the moment, and I'm in the middle of a play, but in February we're going to embark on a collaboration. 😄 My role is mainly the creation of the electronic parts, with perhaps a bit of singing (depending on how successful his recent singing lessons have been! :giggle: ).

I create music electronically using Fruity Loops, and I use Nuendo for recording - but I haven't really got the hang of that one yet - I've just found how to record one single line, and that's all so far, but I'm going to work on it! :p

lol
yeah... it's great... absolutely daisuke asakura inspired XDDD

i've been working on my different voices... i never actually thought all the years of practicing for a fantisy job of Seiyu would actually come in handy one day! XD
it's a complete 'fangirl' band thought XD
i've already written a song about bishi cosplayers :LOL:

actually that's good to know!
because we're also gunna do some general electro as well as general synth pop!
so we may call on your services at some point!
but again, we're kinda tied down with the fact i have 5 deadlines coming up >.<

I've been playing guitar since I was 16. Mostly punkrock, oi and streetpunk and that sorta stuff, so nothing special.

I own a mandolin.. And I can play a few chords on it, but that's it. 😌

lol
nice!
just having one's impressive! lol
at least you've the oportunity to learn it... i had a friend who started but gave up after a few months >.<

I've been teaching myself guitar. Can't play much, but can so far play themes from FFVII, FFVIII, FFX and some mario themes. It has been fun practicing on my acoustic guitar, but, I really need to get myself an electric guitar.

I'm a drummer and also I play bass.

I've played as a back-up drummer for some punk bands in Mexico, and also helped a friend many times with his jazz improvisation band, so I'm not just sticked with one music style.

And a funny fact: I have already played with a japanese punk band :-)

LUCKY!!!!
omigod my two fave instruments... bass and drums...
and i can play a grand tottal of naither...
and DAMN YOU the two most brillient generes to hear live/play live...
Jazz and punk (if you include ska in there aswell that it XD)

I love drums, but I just KNOW I would be crap at playing them! 😊

I have a friend who plays the mandolin, although I have yet to hear him play it. :)

Furan: if you ever want any electro stuff, do feel free to give me a shout, motivation is always good! :D

I'm learning bass at the moment.

Once I tried drums.. but as I expected it was a whole mess xD I'm not good at coordinate hands and feet together (I guess practise would help >> but I'm happy with my 2 bass guitars, one e-bass and a semi-ac.)

From elementary school to high school, I always played the drums. In high school, since I couldn't play snare, bass, cymbals, or toms while marching, I had to go into the pit, marimbas, xylophones, timpanies, other instruments like that. In 9th grade, I played auxillary instruments and a little of the timpanies. From 10-12 grade, I was mostly timpanies. I also was in the indoor drum line, it's like marching band but just drums, for 4 years and I was playing timpanies. I haven't played a drum in about 2 years, except bongo drums for Donky Konga (video game).

I play the guitar and me and my friends are starting the band the only thing is one member dusent want anuther friends bro to be in it because he takes control of things.

ah, that's always a problem... i have a habit of taking over things, so i said to myself, now fran, Rhi asked you to be in this band, it was her idea, tell her now she's the 'leeder' and be done with it' XDDD
so... even though i'm the singer, it's still technically 'rhi's' band ^^;
um... point, i'm making a point don't worry ^^;
maybe they should just tell him, look, you can be in thie band bu you have to realised that you can't take over... this is our band and we do thing sby group desicions... or somethign liek that ^^;

Absolute Zero: timpanies! i love them... they always make music that much more interesting XDDD
but my gosh that's a decent sized experience of percussion you got there... hah, the only percussion i play is the piano... which i think is classified as percussion... and i'm awear that i'm most likely spelling that very wrong >.<

HAHA bongos in donky knoga... o gosh the memories... if that isn't the msot amazing game ever XDDDD
though it does remind me i did briefly play the bongo's in our swing band in highschool...
the conducter couldn't remeber my name and a friend kindly instructed him it was bob... ¬_¬
from then on i was known as 'bongo bob' for the rest of the year...

sorry... i have a bad habit of babbling about things that aren't really necessary ^^;

I play and i learn piano, guitar and violin only a bit of a learner... i really hope i can play bass and drum..... T.T those intruments are soo cool!!! Too bad my family doesnt play drum, only piano and guitar.... *sad*

I play a little guitar, but when it comes to music I stick to song writing.
