What's that "emo" thing?

Lately, I've been hearing about this "emos" everywhere, but still can't truly understand what it is. I have even been called one!!!! And by what somebody told me as a 'definition of', I don't think I am. What's "emo" anyways? ☝

Not sure about emo; I always saw it as em(h)o(common saying in the 60's), which stood for "Early Morning Hard-On", a problem guys seem to have. Can't wait to hear what it really stands for nowdays.

^Yea. It's short for emotional and now it's usually associated with "depressed, want to be rebellious, I hate the world" type people.

It used to be "cool" to be "emo" but now it has a bad connotation.

I find it quite dumb because whoever dresses in a bit of a offbeat, "punky" or even "JRockish" style is called emo. There's no escaping it.

From my experience, people tend to think of emos as:

depressed
posers
dress and look the way they do to try to fit in with the other "emos"

For me I don't really care how people dress/act. That's totally up to the person. Personally I don't know why people care so much about it lol.

emo is a style of music.

I haven't heard much emo but from what I've heard I feel that the lyrics are often depressive. Mainly things like "this world is crap, I can't live, you broke my heart". To me the music is very easy and kinda mainstream-like. Most of the emo fans are teenagers which I find not to be such a big surprise.

my co-worker calls himself a emo, he explained to me that its kind of a lifestyle something like PUNK but more sad. And yes, they are mostly teenager who call themselves emo... grown ups just call themselves

But the emo music is quite good you know. I've been sceptic about it first, but then i got one song from Bullet for my Valentine. The song is called Your tears don't fall. It's good!
Anyways... i don't like emos very much. I don't hate them or anything, it's just... They are searching problems everywhere. If sad happens to them, in a moment they will feel extremly bad They want to kill themselves for no particular reason and such. I don't like their behaviour.

I do feel down quite often, but it's stupid to call me that just because of it. Is not like I walk down the street crying and saying: Nobody understands, I want do die" or crap like that. It really upsets me... but then, it makes me forget why was I down for??

I've heard about this "emo music", but haven't really heard a song of them. Although the names are quite stupid and long... maybe that's why they get depressed?

I read a fun definition in urban dictionary: "Emos are the only kind of people who would sent tons of pictures of themselves to a lame site like this"

Well... and I guess they're the only ones i have heard label themselves as well... Not me nor my friends walk around saying: I'm a rocker or stuff...

hm... yeah it's something like "oh my poor me... I want to kill myself... my life sux" and so on... just searching for attention as usually though I like their dressing style and haircut it's a bit Jrokish and looks really cool but the attitudes of real emo's really suck...

Emo means Emotion,everyone knows that,
but ..ya know.
Emo's didn't use to be depressed and all that jazz
it used to be like rasta,goth,punk..
Till people all started to insult and pick on emo's
Nowadays if you're emo,people'll laugh at you for it and such,ignore you and hate you.

hm... ok the emo's in my country are different either they're just little kids who want to be different or more attention... or something like i mentioned before... and they're clothe and hair style isn't that cool like normal emo's
