News Typhoon No.10 expected to hit western and eastern Japan

A powerful typhoon, Shanshan, is forecast to make landfall in western and eastern Japan starting Tuesday. Weather authorities are issuing warnings for severe winds and potential landslides. As of Sunday evening, located south of Japan, the typhoon was moving northwest at 30 kilometres per hour. Shanshan, or Typhoon No.10, has a central atmospheric pressure of 980 hectopascals and is packing maximum sustained winds of 126 kilometres per hour, with gusts reaching 180 kilometres per hour. It is expected to intensify as it continues its northward path by Tuesday before approaching Japan's western and eastern coasts.

Typhoon No.10 is expected to approach southern Kyushu on Thursday and possibly make landfall while still a very strong storm. At 1 p.m. on Wednesday, the weather agency issued an emergency storm and high tide warning for Kagoshima Prefecture, excluding the Amami region. Powerful winds — severe enough to cause some homes to collapse — are expected to hit the area, along with high tides that could lead to flooding in certain regions.

I guess we'll be lucky enough to scrape by here in Kanto.

I wouldn't want to be on Yakushima over these few days...

But it seems to have stopped moving. I have certainly looked at jma and seen its forecast track and the different days it'll be one place or another. My guess is it will move a little onto Kyushu and then kind of dissapate--if not in place, then without moving much farther onto or along Honshu.

The typhoon No.10 is coming close to Fukuoka now.
Rain and the wind are weak.
There is much quantity of water, but does not hit the river with a flood either.
Moving speed is slow in the characteristic of the typhoon No.10, and it rains for a long time.
As it did not rain in August, vegetables soared, but the typhoon seemed to carry rainfall eagerly longed for.

While downgraded to a "tropical storm", Typhoon No.10 still causes widespread disruptions to train services and flights.

All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines said they will cancel or reschedule many flights to and from airports in the southwestern and western regions Friday, and the irregular scheduling will affect the airlines into the weekend. The Japan Meteorological Agency called Typhoon Shanshan "very powerful" before it made landfall in Kyushu on Thursday morning, but dropped the descriptive phrase in the afternoon. It also downgraded a rare special typhoon warning issued for most parts of Kagoshima Prefecture. At 5 a.m. Friday, the storm was located near Yufu, Oita Prefecture, and was moving slowly northeast with winds of up to 126 kilometers per hour, the agency said, adding that its atmospheric pressure at the center was 992 hectopascals. JR Central will cancel all Tokaido Shinkansen trains between Mishima and Nagoya throughout Friday, the company said, with notification to come later Friday if it can resume the high-speed train service in the remaining sections -- between Nagoya and Shin-Osaka, and Tokyo and Mishima.

We had torrential rains here in Kanto, swollen rivers, and minor storm damage. Between bouts of rain, I ventured out on my bicycle; this is what the Tamagawa looked like today.

Tropical Storm Shanshan was moving slowly east off Wakayama Prefecture on Saturday afternoon, bringing widespread torrential rain to a broad swath of the country, including in the Kanto and Tokai regions — with the storm's effects even felt as far away as Hokkaido. A linear precipitation zone — or a band of cumulonimbus clouds — has developed over Mie Prefecture, prompting the weather agency to announce a Level 4 warning for heavy rainfall at around 2 p.m. There is a possibility that a similar band may also develop above the Kanto region as well as the prefectures of Yamanashi, Nagano, and Niigata starting Saturday night, with residents warned to stay alert for possible landslides and flooding.

Lol, that is too funny. I never expected something as Danish to the bone as Badehotellet to be successful outside the Nordics. I'm glad you enjoyed it, I'm about to rewatch it myself on bluray (just got the first 9 seasons for pennies).

We showed all 10 seasons on PBS in America. In some ways it has some in common with British shows like Upstairs Downstairs mixing the rich and servants which does OK with certain audiences. I went through a Nordic Noir crime drama phase but those are too dark after a while it loses enjoyment for me. Loved the original Wallander from Sweden
