The Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) is a standard test to measure proficiency in the Japanese language. The test is held twice a year, across Japan and in various countries.
Passing the JLPT, especially levels 1 and 2, can be a significant advantage when seeking a non-teaching job in Japan. In some cases, it is also used as a reference for "examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students" (EJU).
There are 5 levels, ranging from N5 to N1. Each level consists of 3 sections: kanji and vocabulary, reading comprehension, grammar and listening comprehension.
To register for the test, you can buy the test guide application forms at the larger bookshops in Japan, or you can visit the official JLPT website.
