I barely know the difference between the two....

落とす is correct. Mike-san would mean the difference between 始まる <--> 始める, 混ざる <--> 混ぜる(混ぜります doesn't exist.) and 回る <--> 回す.

こがす is used for "to burn" in this case.

うまいみたい --> うまそう

Learning to spot the difference between transitive/intransitive situations can be hard for many English speakers, since in English we distinguish primarily by word order. Japanese uses different words, and the difference is important.

In the course of learning Japanese, if you don't find yourself learning quite a bit more about English at the same time you're missing something.
