I was there two years ago for a half year traineeship. Stayed in Hamamatsu/ Shizuoka.
HAd a great time of my life. It was just so unique. And of course I've been a very lucky guy.
Everyone in this world should visit this country at least once in their lifetimes...

This December I will be achieving a life long dream - visiting Kyoto. After 30 years of practicing various martial arts and the traditions that seem to be dying even in Japan, I will at least see the places that made such a profound change in my life when I was younger.

You'll absolutely love it in Kyoto...unlike anywhere else in the world...very serene. It's too bad that you have to wait so long to go, but it's better than nothing.

Whoa, this place is more international than I imagined! Thought it was mainly gonna be the teacher base living out here that would populate this site. I'm pleasently surprised tho.
Me? Im living in Suzuka, Japan. Next to the Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit.

haven't been....
but i'm going in october! *jumps up and down* i'm gunna die... i HATE flying, and it's a 12 hour flight! *cires* ontop of that... i'm not gunna sleep a wink... and i'm gunna be completey hysterical the whole way there, they're gunna have to sudate me. then keep me on like, a leash to stop me running after all the pertty ppl, lol. i'm going with my cathedral choir to sing at some church that's oppening... 10 days, tokyo and koyoto (i REALLY wanna go see shimbara) and where ever this chiurch is... only one night in tokyo *weaps* and i have no idea how much free time i'll have... i'll just not sleep and sneek out the hotel when no-one knowtices at night ^.^
yeah, and then once i got mah digree, imma go teach over there... i think.... hope...

LOL@ furan... I was exactly the same when coming to Korea, also I had a night flight... dont think I actually slept until my first weekend here, when I got really sick (from the lack of sleep, too much alcohol etc etc). I've paid and booked my ticket for November.
Now I know that this is an old thread so, maybe my questions wont be answered... Is it better to change my Korean won for US$ then Japanese yen? Or is it ok straight to J yen? Also I wont have a working visa, but are they going to be really anal about all that? I havent noticed too much of a problem here (but I havent really looked for a job yet). Also are they kind to people that come and go on a regular basis on a tourist visa? Japan is my more preferred 3 monthly visiting place... basically because I speak more Japanese than Chinese, and I dont want to cause any world crisis by going to North Korea. Also im not sure that $300 will go as far these days as it would have 10 years ago, how much realistically will I need for 3 months with no guaranteed work? Also partly paid for accomodation, so really its just travel and food expenses? Thanks for your help in advance if anyone comes back to read this!

Japan rocks!..

Hello peeps!

I just got back from Japan last week, after an 8 day visit (it was my first time)

I thought it was amazing. It was everything I imagined and more,
although it was a bit disorientating at times (but I was expecting a little 'culture shock')

I stayed in Shinjuku,Tokyo which was like being in the film 'Bladerunner' (especially when it was raining!)
Kyoto was the total flip-side of this - very peaceful.
I visited the Studio Ghibli museum in Mitaka and stayed with my pen pal's family for a night, about 3 hours outside Tokyo (in a traditional house).
I went up Tokyo Tower, to Ueno zoo and I got to visit NHK headquarters,as I work for their London division.
I also found some cool bars playing Reggae music in Roppongi!

The people I met in Japan were cool - The Japanese could certainly teach the English a thing or two about manners!
Also, I have now completly overcome any fears I had of eating Sushi and Sashimi.

I will definately be returning - maybe even this year!

I have never been in Japan but i intend to go someday. It is interesting how people live there, their tradicions and culture and...everything is interesting!!!

oh man you are so lucky... i am so jealous ... my dream is to go to japan and experience life there.
in malaysia the only relationship with japan are the mangas, anime, and shushi

I want to go to the Aichi Expo this summer, I have the money collected and have some good books, but I was chocked about the price of hotels and things like that

does anyone have some good tips maybe? If so please leave me a pm!

but to stay ontopic: Never been in Japan before and the relation to it is probably the general intrest

I haven't been to Japan YET, but do I ever intend on going there. I LOVE Japan, I would almost consider it my second home country... if I was *actually* Japanese... I don't mind my heritage at all though, I am PROUD to be German

I was lucky enough to visit Japan once in December of 2003 (one week after the Emperor's birthday! I missed it!). I hope to live in Japan when I graduate. I've promised myself that I will live there, no matter how hard I have to work for it.
