Wine Appreciation thread

Most of the members here are quite young so I'm not sure if there is lots of interest in a wine thread but let's give it a try.

The other day my friend gave me a nice bottle of red wine (2012 Beaujolais Villages Nouveau Primaviva) and I really enjoyed drinking it last night. So I have decided to buy some more wine instead of just getting pissed on beer and try to appreciate drinking alcohol a bit more.

The only thing is that I have no knowledge of wine, so please give me your recommendations and teach me what good wine is, how you drink it and what you eat with it.

Well, I have always enjoyed wine, living in Italy especially. My parents strongly believe that one should drink more out of pleasure (meaning GOOD wines/beers/spirits).
For that reason I always had good wine in the house and if I go to restaurants I hardly ever drink wine because of that.
If you wanna try something really good, those form Tuscany (I especially like red wine) are the best. There was this one wine I had tried once in Milan in a "Whine tasting shop". I never found it again but it was delicious. Velcro di Montalcino. Montalcino is the village they make it.
As far as other wines are concerned, just this summer, I was around southern Germany and eastern France.
Damn that was a good trip.
We ended up at a wine fest while in Germany, it was amazing!!! So good. And the beer of course.
Since we were going around the border wnet to France and I gotta say I love Alsace white wines.

I am no expert, but I was always told that red wine goes with red meat, and white wine goes with white meat.

I also remember reading that red wine has better health benefits than white wine.

My favorite wine is pinot noir, although I drink it even less than I frequent the forums these days.

Although I could not find: Velcro di Montalcino I was able to find Brunello Di Montalcino and might order a bottle of that:

My friend recommended ruinart to me, but since a bottle is about 8000 yen it can only buy (or receive hahaha it's almost my birthday) on special occasions

@mikawa shame on you for not being on the forum that much and not drinking pinot noir that much either... I guess you are not really enjoying your life now
