To 4321go,
As a Dutch war victim of the Japanese, I don't care for apologizes from Japanese ministers 60 years after WW II.
But I would be very happy when Japan starts writing their honest war history, that would be very brave after 60 years of denials.
My hope's are set on the Democratic Party of Japan.
writing their honest war history means apologizes!

Right, China relinquished its right to claim reparations, but China still wants Japanese money, and complains what Japan gives is not good enough. (China does not accept anything that Japan does, but China still accepts money! China likes money! Thank you, very nice.)
Chinese people didn't want to see Japanese people suffer, so they decided to make their own people suffer in a civil war instead! (The Chinese are very kind, thank you.)
Does China plan to downsize its own military? China is a threat to Japan, actually.

Yes, Chinese ppl are more respectable when they kill their own brothers instead. Very kind, the whole Japanese nation appreciates it.
haa......... This is ridiculous.....😊 The same thing over again, it's not going to end..
Maybe you will satisfied the day when Chinese force occupy Japan ?

osias said:
1. Japan did not apologize.
2. Japan apologized, but Chinese people are not satisfied with the apologies, and unwilling to accept.
3. Japan apologized, but many Chinese people don't know about it.
I guess many Japanese people tend to think 2 or 3 is true.
But it seems many Chinese people say 1.
So which one is true?
Watch the news and you will know which one is true~

Honestly, I love things about both China and Japan, and at the same time get really irritated with both.
The nationalism in both countries, the unwillingness of both to apologize and compromise.
The Japanese government does need to stop denying history and should really send more money than $8 million for the many chemical weapons they left buried in China.
At the same time China can be a bit hypocritical and needs to show the will to compromise.
If compromise means betray eldership and indulge militarist ?

As regards Japan (and some other countries) I can say the following. Such countries as Japan, Russia, China are unique countries. We all must save what distinguish us from the Occident (the USA, Europe), what makes us unique and dissimilar to the other cultures. However at the same time we are not the Orient. We are something different. Japan, China and Russia must be together. We shouldn't allow the West to thrust their material and spiritual values on us. If we allow them to do that then we will PERISH. Remember what Nietzsche wrote about "Russian fatalism"! From this point of view I would say that communism is not so bad thing. Quite the contrary. Much worse things are "Californication", "American life style" and "Americanizing".
There is at least one arse-hole who doesn't want to understand it. (I mean the idiot who kills Iraqi people now, who says "We bring you freedom and democracy! We better know what life is and what your life's purpose is! Confess!" Stupid blether, isn't it?)
I'll rather die than I'll allow him and his like-minded persons to f*** my mind!!!
Japan, I love you! China, I love you too! The USA, I... Well... I respect even Americans and their views on life (but I will never accept them!). :)
And I am 100 per cent sure that Yukio Misima would understand what I am talking about. Just remember his death...
Every country can be friend~except the unmoral one~

I think it comes down to the fact that nobody likes revisionist history, and Japan is certainly not a stranger to that... As for China, you are talking about a government who suppress personal liberty and freedoms through totalitarianism... I don't recall there being any religous groups rounded up and tortured in Japan.

Within the past six months, China has stated that it will use nuclear weapons against the US to retaliate against any action taken to liberate taiwan--- true or not, it's not the most responsible thing to bring to the world-table.

Japan has recently shown also a bit of nationalism (see: Hating the Korean Wave), bordering on xenophobia with regards to Korea & China, but as has Korea and China to Japan. These are isolated incidents, but these incidents are more prevelant in a society where social economic stressors dictate that Japanese youth may have fewer options and opportunities.

ed: I think to China's credit, they realised that you can not have a communist free market, and their economy is seperate from their style of governance... this has led I think to their success...
明治維新 - Wikipedia

廃仏毀釈 - Wikipedia
I am not sure about what really happened, however, "Rurouni Kenshin" did mention this fact in the manga. no need to worry about anything, even if it's true,it's just a historical fact that won't affect us today.

also, about nuclear weapon,
China and weapons of mass destruction - Wikipedia
China is one of the five "Nuclear Weapons States" (NWS) under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which China ratified in 1992. China is the only NWS to give an unqualified security assurance to non-nuclear-weapon states:
"China undertakes not to use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear-weapon States or nuclear-weapon-free zones at any time or under any circumstances."

surly there are lots of people who want to use Nuclear weapon, even Douglas McArthur. Some people just can't think before they speak. And we need to learn how to deal with them in real life..hehe.

Douglas MacArthur - Wikipedia
On October 25, 1950, Chinese military forces attacked across the Yalu River, forcing the U.N forces to embark on a lengthy retreat. MacArthur repeatedly requested authorization to strike Manchuria and major Chinese cities with thirty to fifty nuclear weapons, an action which Truman and the State Department feared would draw China's ally, the Soviet Union, into the conflict. Angered by Truman's desire to maintain a "limited war," MacArthur began issuing dire statements to the press, warning of imminent, crushing defeat.

and about china-japan, I need to say that the relationship is pretty good before 90s, but the dissafication keep growing after then, if u just randomly mark china as "threat" while neglect certain facts, it's no different than those crazy nationlists in china keep acusing japan with distorted view, it will only make things much worse.

The bloke who started this thread wondered why other countries hated Japan. It's at least very strange to ask such question. Probably he forgot who the terrorist #1 in the world was and what country the main hatred maker was. Of course I am talking about ADOLF W. BUSH and THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Don't you understand that the USA tries to destabilize economic and political situation all over the world?

The US created Israel (and a lot of people die every day because of continual skirmishes between Israel and Palestine).

Then I am deeply persuaded that it were the United States that had a hand in the so-called caricature scandal (I mean caricaturing Prophet Mohammed) which led to the quarrel between Denmark and France, on one hand, and the whole Muslim world, on the other hand.

The USA caused chaos in Yugoslavia. They aimed at annihilating the Slavs as well as Orthodoxy. And now Americans do nothing to resolve the post-war conflict between Albanians and Serbs. They just watch with a clear conscience Albanians burning Christian Orthodox churches and extirpating our Serbian brothers.

The US government has financed terrorists for fire in Chechnya for Russia to have that local conflict.

The US government financed revolutions in Georgia and Ukraine for these countries to wage the war of nerves on Russia.

The USA invented bird flu.

The USA is guilty of China and Japan accuse each other of all deadly sins even on this forum. Japan and China! You must be together! The USA has never cared about your people. The US government will be VERY glad if you hate and blame each other!

Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera...

Conclusion:

The USA tries to destabilize situation all over the world for the countries being involved in their own problems not to be able to threaten the USA. Such "foreign policy" is absolutely COWARD and EXECRABLE!

The US government considers any country which doesn't do what Bush says, doesn't want to be subordinate to the USA and can threaten (in theory) American security to be terrorist and enemy. It's unjust. It is ONLY the USA that threatens the whole world security. Consequently (and according to their logic) the USA is the rest of the world's enemy #1 and should be DEMOLISHED!

I'm not sure that the USA is better than Iraq, e. g. I'm also not sure that Americans are better than Iraqi people. Iraqi people are much wiser, kinder and more sensible than American people.

The whole world must say to the USA: "Stop threatening our secure! Stop your political terrorism! OR YOU WILL BE DEMOLISHED!!!".

(I would prefer to live along with Iraqi people than with Americans.)

learn to trust people, the deep Christian root of US may cause lots of trouble in the non-christian world showed that US govenment can't trust others, they don't trust UN either, that's why they want to handle things by themselves. However, we still need to believe that US did this from good intention but with wrong method. what we can do is to encourage the trust between people and people, so they won't tranfer one hate to another.. thus we can make the world little bit better everyday...

My Russian friend, I don't think your propaganda will work.
Japan is ally of USA, and most of Chinese don't hate USA.
American saved the world for several times and now they are
promoting freedom and democracy to the world, though the
measure they are taking is quite controversial.
Why do your Russian hate USA so much?
As I know American regard China as their top challenger,
not Russia

When Japan defeated by the ally force! Japan ,nearly...play the role of the son of USA.

Fenqings, calm down a bit!!
👍 👍 😌 😌

The reasons of hatred really don't matter to Chinese people actually, as some of what they say just contradict and are logically flawed. China wants Japan to play the role of a villain, so that they can play the righteous. What they want to do isツ ナ?ツゥ窶榔窶卍ヲヒ?ォ, and they are thinking "Let's beat up Japan, because we have the right cause. "

I think sino-centrism is the answer..China thinks Japan is inferior to them, and Japan is a loser of the WW, but Japan succeeded economically after the war, and went farther ahead of China. How can it be?? ナ?テ。ツ紅窶「aツ!ツ!

According to the sino-centric view point, China>>>>>Japan!

They always complain that Japan looks down on China somehow, so they won't be satisfied until it puts Japan under control. 邃「テ氾ヲテ is not possible.

If that's the case, I will join you as a Chinese citizen. ( I already speak their
language quite ok.)😊 So that will make me a victor!🙂

First of all you should understand that a government of some country and its citizens are absolutely different concepts. I don't hate Americans. I d i s l i k e the US government and its foreign policy. Perhaps there are only stupid 'unts in the US government and they can't understand that some nations mean by 'freedom' and 'democracy' something different from American comprehension of those words. Or perhaps Bush and his 'dream team' simply don't give a damn about it.

My Chinese friend, you wrote: "Japan is ally of USA". I would not say so. Rather: "Japanese government is the US ally". Stop confusing a government with people!

Yes, Nazi Germany killed 20 million Russians and 6 million Jews. Perhaps Japan committed some crimes in the past. It doesn't matter any more. I am deeply persuaded that present generation MUST NOT pay for the past. And I am not going to pay for the USSR faults. And I am not going to make excuses. It was NOT me who made the faults.

"Americans saved the world for several times..."

WHAT??????!!! :flummoxed:

I guess that you meant the following: "Americans saved the world for several times FROM THEMSELVES".

"learn to trust people, the deep Christian root of US may cause lots of trouble in the non-christian world showed that US govenment can't trust others, they don't trust UN either, that's why they want to handle things by themselves. However, we still need to believe that US did this from good intention but with wrong method. what we can do is to encourage the trust between people and people, so they won't tranfer one hate to another.. thus we can make the world little bit better everyday..."
My American friend, tell it to Iraqi people. Tell them: "We've come to kill you, to rape your wives, to destroy your homes, to steal your oil and to change Iraqi government into a puppet of the Washington government. Learn to trust people! Learn to trust us! Amen!".
Such concepts as 'bringing freedom', 'bringing democracy', 'bringing Christianity' have always been the tools for assuming authority.

"...your propaganda..."

It was not propaganda. All I wrote was truth. Besides I wrote elementary things. It is very pity that you don't understand them.

All the best,

You'd better make some preparation to be a Chinese.:p
According to the lastest report released by
International Monetary Fund(IMF) this month,
China's GDP revised again.
Request Rejected
Country GDP (PPP)
— World 61,078,260
— European Union 12,427,413
1 United States 12,277,583
2 People's Republic of China 9,412,361
3 Japan 3,910,728
4 India 3,633,441
5 Germany 2,521,699
6 United Kingdom 1,832,792
7 France 1,830,110
8 Italy 1,668,151
9 Brazil 1,576,728
that means if China and USA keep the growth speed of today
four years later in 2010, China will be the largest economy
in the world.

no need to pay for ,however...
Not the past thing cause the present situation,In fact ,China abnegate the reparations that Japan should pay after the war! Chinese people is virtuous, they didn't want to see the Japanese People suffer more pain after the war,and Japan and China establish diplomatic relations in 1970's.
The real reason is:the attitude of the present Japanese or Japan gov.,and the behavior of the Japanese people!
as you know , many Japanese don't know the reality, I feel more and more difficulty to explain why Japan being disliked by the country who once being invaded by Japan. I am actually a lazy man, however, I hope Japan can do as good as the Germany do , the country who is a loser in WW2 like Japan.
Germany is a country admirable in showing their shrift.
Japan tamper with history and try to beautify war,This is provocation,in defiance of the neighbor! "Japan disliked by 60% of neighbours "

actualy both china and japan are trying hard, china give up the any future official war reparation during WWII is a great start, china-japan's relation is quite good till the late 90s, esp. the yasukuni case. and about reallistic outlook upon itself, they are not only look upon it, they also look into it, they are changing, quite slowly and trying to avoid and possible mistakes, you really need to understant their pressure at they had. so be patient and have faith in bilateral ralationship between china and japan will be the best thing to do.
also it's not nice to call a nation a jerk, it won't do any good except bring attacks and will ruin the relationship again. also, u can ask one moe question, how about Japan's relationship with it's neighbor, such as south korea, china, philipines and other.. Japan do have a very good relationship with US though, hehe.

It's taught in American classrooms today also (and I very strongly agree with you that the term, "Manifest Destiny" was coined as part of that genocide; and don't forget the hispanics also on the land first). The Holocaust is taught in German classrooms. The Rape of Nanking, Japanese concentration camps, comfort women, etc. is not taught in the Japanese classroom, and is furthermore very often even denied altogether.
Show me one apology made by the Japanese government for an atrocity (or series), and I can show you several blatent denials of that same atrocity and also tell you whether it is taught in the classroom as in Japan.

I think the reason for all this hatred against Japan is when Japan says she is sorry or try to apologize in their sometimes awkward ways it was just wasnt enough or it was just NEVER going to be accepted forever anyway. To make matters worse Japan has turn her back to other Asians and embraced the west wholeheartedly.

Just think : Will a Japanese drive a Korean car or do they think products from other countries are better than theirs?

Car purchases don't exactly compare. Japan right out makes so many of the best (and more affordable) cars these days anyways, so it's kind of understandable.

Again, the Japanese government hasn't apologized (in other words, hasn't agreed to teach it's own dark history in the classroom). Again, other countries teach the dark periods of their history, and Germany has become all the greater a country today I think for teaching of its part in WWII.

What are the sources of information that you base your opinion on??

I think the problem is that many people are just relying on what some other person has said, and they don't really try to find out...

And what the Chinese people need is a mirror to reflect on themselves.

No, it isn't off topic. The chap had posed the question and I answered it. Just read what I posted before more carefully and you will get what I meant.

The thread is called "Why do other countries hate Japan?".

"What about Russia and Russians?", - one can ask.

I being Russian can say that I love Japan and the Japanese very much. And all people I know like Japan and respect Japanese people.

The friendship between Japanese and Russian people forever!!!

With best wishes,

Anton.

He, he... :-) You understood NOTHING in my posts. You didn't even see the simple parallel to the USA. It's very pity. (Perhaps.)

If you think that I contradict myself somewhere then you are wrong.

Moreover I indicated "the reason why Japan being the status of present" and "Why Other Countries Hate Japan".

Nevermind. I'm not gonna discuss it anymore. If one doesn't want to understand something, one will never understand it, I guess...

Parallel to the U.S.?! You don't get it, this thread has nothing to do with the U.S.! We're not talking about the what the U.S. did to Russia, we're all talking about Japan and why other countries (namely those in mainland asia) seem to have a beef with Japan!

osias said:

I think the problem is that many people are just relying on what some other person has said, and they don't really try to find out...
And what the Chinese people need is a mirror to reflect on themselves.

I live in the U.S. so I know what is taught here, I have several friends living in Germany who know an extensive amount about WWII and know very well what the holocaust was, I've got a whole discussion group with stuff on Japanese atrocities ( Yahoo | Mail, Weather, Search, Politics, News, Finance, Sports & Videos OR http://groups.myspace.com/ijaac )but fairly few of the Japanese people (as on this forum) I know have learned of these or admit that they are true.

I also do not carry a very admirable view of the communist government of the PRC, nor do I admire the Kuomintang in Taiwan (but Democratic Progressive Party is taking power there now). However I can understand why basically all of mainland asia (communist, democratic, nationalist, etc.) is a bit upset with Japan denying the millions that were brutally killed during WWII.

Japan is a nation of extreme unique.
When they launched war, they became brutal to the utmost,
When they surrendered, they immediately became tame to
the utmost. people who didn't suffer from their invasion
or live far from them or be born after WWII or ignorant
about their behavior in WWII will blame to China like that
"look, how docile Japanese are, why are you hostile to Japan"?
Here is the answer: only their closest neighbor can see what
hide behind their gentle mask. in deep heart, Japanese never
believe they have done anything wrong during WWII.
personally I don't care about whether they apologize or not,
but we must keep an eye on them and prevent them from being
brutal again.
If our neighbor is Germany, we don't need to worry about that.

One more very important thing.

Some persons on the forum try to convince me of they don't hate Japan and "don't make the Japan bashing". It is also very strange.

I remember watching World Football Championship match between Japan and China in 2002. Some Russian sports reporter interviewed Chinese football fans.

"What do you think about the game and the score?", - the reporter asked.

Some Chinese fan:

"We must win!!! The Japanese are poor bastards! They...". (And the fan began to tell about Japanese atrocities, Japanese aggression and the crimes which had taken place IN THE PAST, to tell about apologizes, about militaristic orientation of Japan, about denying the history, etc.) And the other Chinese fans began to echo: "Yes, he is right. The Japanese are idiots! We must win this game!".

"WHAT THE HELL!", - I thought then. - "WHAT....THE....HELL!!!"

To tell the thruth I felt deep disappointment!..

Some people can say that they don't hate Japan and the Japanese. They also can write: "We don't make the Japan bashing!" Nonsense! In their heart of hearts they hate both Japan and the Japanese.

It's very pity...

Lets not hate anyone. Lets try our very best in the future to be kind and not kill or destroy each other so brutally. We are a billion people roll into one. If we hurt someone or a nation everyone will be hurting terribly and the vicious circle will go on forever. Let us not repeat this kind of history. We only have one world. Do we really want to destroy it?

Hello Saba from Kuala Lumpur,

I fully agree with you. Where ever we come from, we can all make friends in other countries. I allow myself to dislike certain governments from certain countries, but I can make friends with the peoples of those countries.
As I found out for myself; there are good people all over our beautiful world.

Hi 4321go,

Yes today is Labor's day, some of the socialists in Holland take the day off.
And today it is especially nice because it falls on a Monday, makes it a nice long weekend for the hard workers.

I agree with you that many people in this group are very open minded and tolerant, wherever they come from. I really feel at home althought I am so much older than everybodyhere in the group.
