I agree with you - kids shouldn't be playing them and it is their parents fault. Or would you let your kid watch hard-core porn, even though it has a 21+ rating? Also agree with the wrestling comment - kids are regularly hurt and permanent harm is done when they attempt to replicate their idols 'moves' without realising that it is a carefully choreographed display with professional stuntpersons.I can see there is an argument that violent games leads to violence in real life and I'm sure some people will try to replicate the violence and/or be encouraged to be violent because of the games. But, if they are that messed in the head then they'd probably do something anyway.
And the argument about kids playing them!!! - well, that is what the censor ratings are for. I blame their parents!
I think the WWW wrestling is a much more dangerous influence. It makes kids think you can drop someone's back over your knee and they'll be OK - in other words encourages them to paralyse.
I also have a beef with the 'oh they see violence in the games and go out and practice it for real' argument. Individuals are prone to certain behavioural traits, I don't believe that a game converts someone into a killing machine. You don't see kids who watch the Care Bears run out and commit ranom acts of kindness? Or whole classes run off and build a raft and run away from home to sail down a river after they had to write a book report on Tom Sawyer, do you?
Most 'activist' are aligning themselves with such causes do so because they are attention ******, using the unfounded (read: fabricated) violent video game cliche as their vehicle.
