This is one of the well publicized news in my former home state. A Wal-Mart temp clerk was trampled to death by the storming bargain hunting shoppers in the early morning.

Bloomberg - Are you a robot?

When I was in the states, I did not go to Wal-Mart when the large crowd is going for shopping (such as the black Friday) because of Wall Mart's core customer base. (Note: I don't want to sound elitist by saying this). I just did not felt safe to be in such a crowd (my New York instinct has kicked in naturally).

Is there any place in Japan this type of shopping-related homicide could happen?

Not sure about while shopping, but.................

the front row at the sumo games always looks like a good place to be crushed and killed.
