I usually post questions on the "Learning English" section. "All things Japanese", especially "culture shock" section is very interesting to read. Just because of my language problem, I usually skip too-long-posts but the one by Pachipro-san is the exception. I really love reading his stories.
👍

There isn't a serious discussion section anymore. Europe has left the building and we aren't alowed to dicuss Religion or Philosophy.

I think that some of our members do not understand what the "Serious Discussion" category is. I have checked the number of posts and 2 or 3 of those who voted for Serious Discussion have almost never posted there.

Nooooooooo I miss voted :(

I meant J-Music section and not Entertainment (excluding J-pop)...

I tend to lurk in the J-music section, though I frequently stray to Community and Chit Chat & Misc. :-) I like all the parts to the forum, I just don't have much to say at times or just don't know anything on the subjects, but the threads always give me a good chance to learn new things. ^.^

I like to go mostly in the J-pop section though I go around the enterainment section a lot and chitchat is always fun to go to 👍

Where has the "Serious Discussion" subforum moved too? I can't seem to find it. Are the rules different from the rest of the forum? I believe that there are topics which are off limits to all, and others that cannot be discussed only by specific individuals. I also heard that there is a rule against disagreeing with you, Maciamo, at all, ever, for any reason. I heard that you feel things strongly and you know how to hurt people when you want. And many people have left the forum hurt because they couldn't bear that you used their own insults against them! It seems rather frightening and confusing. Can you shed some light on this?

I am more apt to post at Practical>Japan Travelling than most other places here. But it also depends upon the topics that are "hot" at the time.

Funny how most people here have very little of no interest in China. It is so similar to Japan in many respect. I wonder if this will evolve when China will become more economically similar to Japan... Maybe not so much, South Korea is already like Japan 15 to 20 years ago or so, and it doesn't draw nearly as much attention as Japan 15 years ago. Maybe it is Japanese pop culture that the other two lack...

Speaking personally...I'm not as attracted to the Chinese or Korean languages, any country as defined by its political situation as those two, among other things NOT related to pop culture....I won't say because the character of the people is too straightforward, assertive, down to earth or intellectual, though...:p

I just pick up topics that are intresting off the main page. I don't really go for any specific catagory. Just whats interesting when I arrive.

Nihongo Forum is the reason why I came to JREF in the first place and cruise that place most of the time.
Same here. I have to really pry myself out of that forum. But I've been pretty absent recently.

🙇‍♂️

Sorry, Maciamo's assertion "that some of our members do not understand what the "Serious Discussion" category is," confused me into thinking that we had one hiding somewhere here. I guess that would explain why "2 or 3 of those who voted for Serious Discussion have almost never posted there."

Mostly in All things..., Practical, and Learning Japanese and their sub-folders. I tend to answer questions (with my rudimentary knowledge and improperly punctuated responses) in the first two, and ask a lot in the last of this list!

There isn't. You use chit chat for things like that:eek:
I'd like to see more serious-leaning discussions here, too. 👍 I think there may have been the general impression those threads would be locked and sent to Eupedia. :-)

... and Eupedia is not JREF. Not everyone nor is every point of view welcome over there.

I usually post in Entertainment (Games and Consoles), and Member Introductions. Since there isn't any thing to respond in Games and Consoles, I just greet new comers.

We cannot move threads or posts from Jref to Eupedia and Eupedia to Jref. If you wish to start serious discussions then, I'm afraid, it will have to be in Chit-chat.

Yeah, I know. I meant the user would be referenced to Eupedia as the proper outlet, although as far as I know religion still isn't discussed there at all.... Anyway, I'm glad to see that isn't the way the situation is being handled. :)
