Today's paper said.......

Microsoft's new program to replace XP will be out the first of the year, way overdue. Think I will wait a year on that one and buy a case of RAID to kill all the bugs when I do get it.

Which Window...

Well, I use Windows XP home at one computer.
Other one crashed, couldn't re-install XP. Got the new one with Vista, and my opinion is, hmm, stick with XP. Kept crashing from the very first day, and is too intrusive, I've heard.
So, sent it back and waiting for the new one with XP.
In the meantime, I managed to install linux on the one that crashed.
I'm very proud of myself 😊
Ubuntu, anyone uses it?
I can go to the internet, get mail with thunderbird and play games, but good it's complicated!
I don't know a thing, and have to spend sooo much time looking for answers...

Anyhow, if anyone could help explain even the simple basic things to me, I would be grateful.

I'm using vista since a few months ago it works better than XP. Also if you have a good graphic card you can use aero to improve visual aparence with 3D efects.

I'm definitely not changing it for XP anymore. ;)

Although my work computer is xp pro... I prefer this antique mac OS X

DOS 👍 Well not really Windows XP Home on one, Vista on the other and windows 2000 server on the other.

Still have my Windows 95 OEM edition on my shelf dont think ill ever use it though.

I have added the option to vote for Windows Vista, as that is definately now a real possibility.

Personally, I use Windows XP Pro SP2.

I have tried Linux (the Ubuntu version), and I really liked it a lot. Its fatal flaw was the lack of driver support. Half of my devices no longer worked when I tried to use Linux. Oh well.

Running windows XP Home with SP1 and SP2 fitted.

Dont really want to upgrade to Vista, too many bugs in it, so Ive heard.

Have got old Windows 98 SE upstairs, but cant run cable broadband on it.

I'm using two system - Windows 98 (My computer is really old ) and Linux ( I don't remember what kernel it is )

I'm very happy that I have Linux (because if it I can live a normally life ) but because many games won't run on it , I have use Windows

95, those were the good old days:D
I have Home it's ok, want something better but peasant blues....you know how it is.

I recently purchased a Macbook Pro and haven't been disappointed yet. :) OS X for the win?

XP Home, this is very good at the moment since Vista has still some bugs to be fixed, and i like XP Home😌

I have vista on my laptop, my wife runs xp on her's, my two desktop machines at home at the moment run Debian with 2.6 kernel, and my router/firewall runs ipcop.

It would be nice to get some new hardware to set up an apache and an ftp server.

OS X From Apple.

Easy to work with even though I haven't learned all the stuff yet.

dude im still running DOS
look 4 my other post in "So, whats in yours?"
I run windows 2000 cuz I don't wanna let go of DOS... I miss the old days when we had full control over our PCs. I was once a Bulletin Board System Operator before the internet hit the countryside in Canada. You could create boot programs... and well... the days are past. Maybe one day I'll get into Linux. Good to see someone who still likes DOS.

This computer has XP home
new computer wil get vista home premium 64bit
My very first computer was a DOS 5 one from my dad's work, I played Aladin, pinball and Duke Nukem 1 on that 👍 It even had a black-white screen 😊

In elementary school we also had DOS or some simmilar systems, I don't remember very well, the start-up was different for every computer. Later we also got windows 3.1

Even in High school/ Middle school (starts at age 12 here) I still used DOS to make papers! even though windows 98,ME and 2000(I think) were already released.
So my very first own windows pc, had Windows ME on it.
Because my parents are divorsed I also got a second hand one with windows 95 at my mothers place.

And that was the story:p

Windows

I'm using Vista at home and XP Pro at the office.
I think Microsoft just improved the appearance but functionality wise I don't think there so much different.
🙂

XP pro and Slackware 12 w/twm (yes, really) on the laptop; but my time is invariably spent ssh-ing to command line of some description :|

I sometimes miss the charm of low spec Windows 95 that I grew up on, which is the non-performance reason what I use twm.
