Have you ever thought about the thing you fear the most in your life? Have you ever thought about what would happen if your fears would become reality?

I've asked a lot of people about that, because i'm interested in what are their biggest fears and how can they fight them in the everyday life.
Some people said that they are afraid of spiders, some are afraid of losing their job or the ones they love… Some say that they are afraid that they won't be succesful.

I've thought about that a lot, but i realized, that my biggest fear is actually quite unusual. Among all that answered this question to me, i haven't found one who fears the same thing. I fear that i will lose mind and that i would do something stupid in that moment of weakness. It's like, i had to grow up fast, because my mother and father were divorcing when i was 12. They we're arguing and yelling at me all the time without reason. There was one guy i was inlove with and he treated me bad. I was naive and stupid back than. I live with my mother now and she always yells at me for stupid things. My father doesn't care about me.
Sometimes i feel like i'm going to explode, like i'm going to lose it all and just go somewhere or even kill myself. But i know that killing myself won't change anything. It's just, i'm scared. And the worst is, when something happens and i can't do anything about it. I'm that kind of person who thinks that the life is over if something really bad happens.
Well yeah that's about me.

Now it's your turn to write if you want :p

Sounds rough, but my bets are that life will eventually seem a lot brighter in the future. It's just human nature to search for happiness, and most people even if they aren't intentionally looking stumble upon new perspectives that still fit reality, and yet are just happier ways of looking at life.

What do I fear? I don't really have anything I fear, I know there will be painful experiences in the future, but the future pain really doesn't cross my mind in everday life. I simply attempt to enjoy this moment, and since I started seeing all pain as eventually passing, and being less hard on myself, I have become a whole lot happier. I don't want to trade this moment, the only moment I have any control over to mindless fantasy, mindless recollections, and mindless living in the future. I mean it does well to take on habits that don't jeopardize one's future, but I try as best as I can to not do anything without awareness.

I guess I fear most losing my awareness in the constant stream of thoughts and other stimuli, and not conciously controlling the direction in which it goes.

My biggest fear is of getting ill. I'm not afraid of death per se, but I am very afraid of getting a serious illness or of dying young, before I have had a chance to do everything I want. I'm afraid for my family in the same way.

On a (slightly) less heavy note, I'm terribly afraid of wasps, of my house getting burgled, of losing my pets, of never having children, of making a prat of myself in public, of people thinking I'm stupid. I'm a pretty anxious person, all in all. 😌

I'm a really unanxious person. :D

There isn't one specific thing that I'm afraid of. I would say that my biggest "fear" is of unbearable pain - for instance, to have a terrible accident where you suffer some horrible injury. I'm quite optimistic about the powers of painkilling medications, but there is always the time you have to wait for help to arrive.

But it's not something that bothers me a lot :) I don't go round all the time worrying I'm gonna have an accident... and I'm not afraid of heights or anything like that... :-)

Illness, disability or losing my marbles aren't things that bother me much either. It's purely the pain factor which is "scary" to me, rather than the consequences (for instance, losing a limb, the actual experience is more "frightening" to me than the prospect of the disability that follows it). I'm a pretty philosophical person on the whole :D perhaps I have too much confidence in my ability to deal with things (psychologically), but I also can't help remembering "The man who fears suffering is already suffering from what he fears".

On a different and less selfish note: naturally I "fear" bad things happening to my friends, family, loved ones... but again it's not something I spend time dwelling on and thinking "if this happens..." etc... Also, well, in that respect, actually the worst thing that could possibly have happened to me has already happened... things that I never thought I could possibly stand, but did because I had no choice... and came out the other side... eventually... nothing could be as bad again... nothing... because even now, I have the strength of those experiences to support me... which seems like an odd thing to be helpful, but it is.

Nah, I'm a really happy-go-lucky person who doesn't worry about or fear anything much... spiders... bugs... ghosts... bankruptcy... death... parachuting... madmen with machetes... darkness... old age... vampires... terrorists... worms... chemical weapons... BRING 'EM ON! :D :D

Interesting thread, and I can relate to the fears mentioned here. I think most of my fears are somehow connected to the functional integrity of my person and body, so going insane, losing senses, losing limbs or becoming heavily disabled scare me. I'm quite risk averse when it comes to anything that could endanger me this way.

What I'm not afraid of is being poor. I know a few people that can imagine nothing worse than being without all their cars, gadgets, gizmos, status symbols, but I really don't need all that. As long as I have a roof above my head, don't need to freeze, get enough food to sustain myself and have enough money left for a library membership, I'm fine.

Being incapacitated for a long term requiring constant assistance from another person. This could be from paralyzation, loss of mental capacity, coma, whatever. I would hate having to rely on someone for normal mundane day to day functions.

Yeaaa... I have not quite really figured out what I fear yet.

Pain in general[ha you'd never guess how needles and all this stuff scared me it was horrible!]
,messing up[ the minute I know I did something wrong I go insane and try to make it up to the person >.<]
and letting down people or myself[ I hate not being "a la hauteur!" and it happens sometiems and the worst part is: I'll tell myself to cahnge it but I know I won't really]
.Oh yes and drying ^^![ I DON'T WANT LIFE TO END SO SOON!]

i fear the day when our government will be overrun by some radical and i will be considered illegal because of my artistic differences
the day when we become a communist world, they thing we as americans have feared and tried to shun from our minds, and my art work will be considered questionalble and possibly black listed.
the day when i am forced to be religious and i die a slave to mental tyranny.

My biggest fear:
The moment I die or to see someone dying in front of my eyes.
I don't mind dying young but I'm just scared of suffering while dying.

Other than that...I'd get dead scared of roaches. Those evil roaches!

Kinsao, I admire you...you seem to be a very strong person... I wish I could be like you...

*sighs*

I like this thread Anchyyy. It is kind of therapeutic for us to talk about what we are really afraid of.

I think most people try to, either consciously or sub-consciously, avoid thinking about bad things happening to their lives. I've heard a story of someone who has just been in a car accident starts walking right away to talk to the police, and after a few minutes he suddenly collapses.
Human body is capable of not feeling and not realizing the pain and reality.

My biggest fear is losing my loved ones. I'm not sure if I can face and handle the fact that they are not around me anymore. That is why the time when I am with them is so precious, and I keep reminding myself that anything can happen to us at anytime. That makes me appreciate what I have more and tells me not to waste my time because it's not granted.

I know. Conversation is the thing that helps you to understand what you feel.
@ Kinsao: You have a very strong personality. Prepared for everything. I wish i could be like that. Maybe one day... :p

People like Mr. Peabody frighten me...

Imagine meeting his grinning face on a dark, lonely alley....

Then there are the vintage demonic kids with the evil smiles...
what is this girl looking at? The bread with the spread or the hand that is trying to feed her?

Then there is this kid....what if they weren't pork and beans he was eating?

sorry, but they just have that grin of evil...even if they weren't intended that way.... :D

Hear, hear! 👍 :-)

I HATE insects. They scare the hell out of me anyway. 😌

But my biggest fears would be failure and immobility. I hate to disappoint myself and other people, and I'm kind of a perfectionist sometimes. (Well, if I'm a perfectionist sometimes, than it's not that bad is it?)

And for immobility, I find it a terrible idea to be "stuck" somewhere, albeit physically or mentally. Physically can mean not being able to move basically, but also not being able to cross borders, meet new people and cultures etc. Mentally.. I like this saying that goes "he who doesn't shift opinions, rarely learns a thing".

Losing a family member
Not becoming successful
being eaten alive (by a shark or bear, a small bird, you know, the usual)
Being burned to death

I'm not afraid of death or anything, but I don't want it to be painful or frightening. Just kind of go to sleep and never wake up is what I want.

I'm afraid of J-Rockers. J/k

My biggest fear would be paralysis, mainly for my family. I would rather have it happen to me than my family members. I would hate to have others clean me, wipe me, dress me. I don't like the feeling of having to rely on others. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

and losing a limb....that would suck.

Well I for one am absoluly petrified of the idea of my image fading in the world when I'm dead of beeing forgotten.
Beeing remembered post mortem is probably the most important thing to me^^
I'm not really scared of social contacts braking up because there will always be new ones and if there isn't "every living thing dies on it's own" 😊

Nothing scares me,not death not pain not animals.

..while being at gunpoint does nothing,Tasers,god..

those things so totally can get me to run away like a sissygirl >_>

but what i fear.

What I fear most is reality.
the fact of your friends dying and suffering in a decaying world...

You'd be on good terms with Sallust. He saw immortality only in being remembered through history and thought it was a major point to become a part of written history.

I think it's kind of liberating, because if you or your life or a history of it were eternal, there'd be immense pressure to always do everything right and this might be inhibitive enough to never even try, seeing as we could fail and our failures would ring eternal.
I sometimes worry that life might be too short and the years seem to pass ever quicker each year, but then again I feel oddly content with that, knowing reality is bigger than me and that I will be forgotten allows me to try, stumble and fail on this romp through life I had no chance to practice beforehand.
When I'm dead, I want them to take as many organs as they can still use elsewhere and turn the rest of my body into strawberry fertilizer.

Reality is pretty bad sometimes. But we have to deal as we have to deal with everything else. If we won't will just go crazy or die.

^ That's true. (Of course some people do go crazy, or die, or both!)
But... it's quite amazing sometimes... how much you can take without cracking up or killing yourself. There are some things that you think, "Jeez, if such-and-such ever happened, I'd go crazy! I don't know how I could possibly survive it... I couldn't stand it." But then... when it does happen... somehow... you're still here and still sane... (sort of!) We can be stronger than we think... 👍

Anchyyy and Cue: thank you very much for your kind words but I am not a particularly strong person. 😌 Life has managed to crush me in the past.

Yes but right and wrong is totally dependant of one's own point of view so there is no generall right or wrong or at least we can't grasp it with our limited "Imagination" or cognitiv abilitys.
Personally when I am dead I would like to be put in a Glas coffin next to Lenin although I hate his ideas of society but at least it will guarantie me some attention for some time and I won't be forgotten so quickly.^^

BTW I wrote my final exam for my latinum on Sallust^^

Seeing as there is no generall reality ,because your reality is made up by the things you hear, see, think, feel etc. and we don't do that collectively you make you're own reality to a certain extent.

I meant 'right' more in terms of 'succeeding', to always succeed at whatever you are doing. Personally, I prefer not being remembered and having a kind of assurance that no matter how bad I screw up, people will forget it in time. On the other hand I wouldn't do things intentionally to be remembered, but because they are important to me, so I see a win-win situation in going to be forgotten at some point.

I wonder how you'd benefit from that, seeing as you are dead.

Seems like classic 11.1 stuff.

Difficult topic. One could spend litres of ink on writing books about that and hectolitres of beer on debating it. The first option is usually skipped.
