I find Christmas a great excuse to stay in touch with friends and family. The only thing I'd like abolishing is Paul McCartney's abomination of a Christmas song. Each year I hope never to hear it, and each year I am tortured by it!

One of our kids is coming back with their family for xmas week (our kid+spouse+grandkids 6 and 8). So for the grandkids we'll pull the tree out of the box, and making decorations will be a part of the setup.

We're not quite sure yet how xmas morning and the santa thing will work for the small ones, but we'll figure something out. I've been trying to figure out how I can leave 'footprints' of santa having been here--something beliveable, but which will also vacuum up and not damage the carpet.

My niece bought a house this year so she's dying to have everyone home for Christmas. The last 20 years or so that duty has fallen to me as I was the only one with enough room (I live in a bungalow, everyone else live in less roomy flats), so I'm right chuffed that this year, I just have to show up, eat, unwrap presents, and go home again

Oh, and fun fact for those who don't know, in Denmark we celebrate Christmas on the 24th in the evening. We start out having dinner (pork roast and duck, mainly) then we dance around the Christmas tree while singing carols and hymns and in our family, we finish the whole deal off with an upbeat song called "Nu' det jul igen" (Lit: It's Christmas again) where we start the dance around the tree, then run around the entire house singing until everyone is out of breath Then we unwrap presents and stuff our faces with Christmas sweets and confectionery

Haha, sorry, I'm just a self-proclaimed Anglophile since the tender age of reading Sherlock Holmes and watching Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot, I think. I spent a great part of my youth sponging up what I considered fascinating English words and idioms, and now I can't seem to leave them out when I speak English.
Also, 90% of my friends are Brits living in various parts of the UK and hanging out with them daily on Discord has probably affected my vocabulary to some extent, too.

Yes, Torquay! There's a bit of tourism due to her, a museum and recently a statue in her honour was unveiled.

Her favourite cove, Anstey's, where she would write, is my favourite too; great for sea kayaking!
