Alright, enough with the jokes. You didn't mention whether there were electrical facilities on the uninhabited island (could be a geological or military strategic base). You also didn't mention whether it was volcanic or not, what kind of animals lived there (any life-threatening ones ? any edible ones ?), and whether there was potable water (any springs ? or just the sea ?). How long are we staying on the island ? Just one day or for the rest of our life ? Is the island far away from everything or is it just off the coast of a inhabited (and well developed) area. I mean, there are many tiny uninhabited islands along the coast of Thailand, or in places like the Maldives. But you could reach easily (even swim to) an inhabited place.
If there is no potable water, then I'd take a water distiller to make drinkable water from sea water.
If there are poisonous snakes, spiders, etc. I'd take something to kill them (can we have a gun ? or does that depend on our country's regulation ? or even the country to which island belongs ?). If it's a small island, there probably won't be big predators.
I'd take a survival knife/kit if we have to stay there for a while.
It's good to have entertainment tools, but if you die of thirst, hunger, etc. that won't be very useful.
If there is no danger, and we only stay a day, then just a bottle of water, a camera and maybe good walking shoes (is it rocky or flat ?).
If it's for an extended period but we can get provisions easily from the mainland/next island, then I'd take a laptop or PDA (equipped with satelite connection ?) with solar recharger (is that one of two items ?), or without recharger if electricity is aleady available (and easily utilizable) on the island. Then, some money to buy provisions and pay for the ferry (if there is one). A digital camera is a good idea too.
Question : does a wallet or a bag count as just one item, or does it depend what we have inside ? Do the clothes, hat, sunglasse, shoes, etc. we wear count as items too ?
NB : When we played that game at school, I used to make other people angry by saying things like that because I "spoilt" the game or "thought too much". I am only playing in function of the rules and data given. I also don't see the point to assume things that may not be true, or even assume that such a situation would never happen (I have been to several uninhabited islands, although well connected by ferry).
