Transliterating Japanese

Interesting how this topic got so far off track so quickly...
Anyway, I recently found out that most professional non-native transliterators use the Hepburn system.

Just a thought that occurred to me recently: Although we may not think of it, we are transliterating as we write Japanese with our computers. An overwhelming majority of people use the standard QWERTY key layout (even in Japan), and as we use IME or whatever input method, we are typing a romanized version of Japanese.

When I am actually writing Japanese words in romaji, I use Hepburn, but when I type using IME, I use whatever method allows for the least number of keystrokes.

Same. There is no way to get ぢ or づ from an IME using Hepburn style (unless you type something like ちかずく and it corrects you).

I don't know what it's called, but I used the following things:

ち = Chi
つ = Tsu
づ = Zu
ぢ = Ji
し = Shi

... and you get the idea
