News Strong quake jolts Northern Japan

Time of occurrence: Around 7:30 a.m. on 25 June 2026
Maximum seismic intensity: Upper 6 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale (shindo 震度6強)
Epicentre: Off the coast of Iwate Prefecture
Magnitude: 6.9
Depth of focus: Approximately 50 km
There is no risk of tsunami damage.


 
So many quakes these days. For those living in high-rises try to have and escape plan. The Philippine quake and Argentina quake recently is a warning.
 
This was later upgraded to an M7.2 tremor. People in Saitama and Yokohama told us they felt a strong jolt, but we did not notice anything in our area.


It seems Hachinohe in Aomori was particularly affected.
