When hubby finally got rid of the spider I was frantically trying to find a gap somewhere the spider might've come in from. I asked あっちゃん where he thought it came in from. He says they're everywhere, even inside the apartment building. GREAT.

X-Japan-FanGrl, I live down in Kagoshima, but apparently, these big bugs are everywhere. I thought it was just bcos it's hotter down here and was ready to move somewhere cooler!!

That hornet looked sooo scary den4!! I'm also really scared of monster mukadae!!! *shudder*

I'm sure the bugs are big in your neighbourhood too if you look hard enough. =)

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh choices... :D

How's this grab ya? I find a spider, ANY spider, & fly into a murderous rage. I go from sweet little, helpless, defenseless, cute thing, to raging, maniacal, vengefull Nazi instantly. I do my best Adolf impersonation, giving a 2 hour sceraming, ranting, hate speech about how all spiders must be exterminated to make room for the glorious me. I spend a fortune on 1/8 scale, electric motor powered plastic model Nazi tanks. All day & night long, ya can hear big, huge Royal Tiger 2 tanks roaring & clawing their way around on maneuvers. When they find a spider they blast away for 3 hours until the house's totally destroyed. Thousands of rounds of ammunition're fired as I scream "Death to the enemies of the state!. Have no mercy & take no prisoners!". Come to think of it....that wouldn't really be a very Hippie thing to do, would it. It'd be much better to seal up your house like a nuclear fallout bunker, catch the spiders, & release them back outside with love & tolerance. Fear's a strong emotion, though, & it can override love, understanding, & compassion. I don't wanna be a violent, unreasonable Nazi, I wanna be a cute little, Japanese girl who loves EVERYBODY!!! I'm so glad that I'm a Hippie! Aren't you glad that you're a Hippie, too?

I fear spiders, but at the same time, I enjoy watching them (when it's on discovery channel!) I don't think I would ever want to hold one... but I find them quite interesting, along with insects, crabs, and things similar to those...

:D okay you are just odd...kathie...:o ..it would be amusing to watch you go nazi germany on lil bug asses and all..but id much rather have somone shoo them out the house as i run in circles only destined to smack into a wall im a hippy and im proud of it!!!! lol

the only deadly spider ive seen is "white tail" in nz... i knew about the spider... it looked the exact same as one in my biology book... it was on my keyboard when i woke up and took me a few secs to realize what it was!

Yesterday I found a HUUUUGE spider in our apartment. It was about as big as my spread hand (if you know what I'm saying).

holy cow 😲 what the heck is that. Where are you living. Near a Nuclear Plant. Hehehe reminds me of The Simpsons series. You know the three eyed fish

this is the only time i think i have ever said this but, im glad i live where it cold! we have almost no spiders or bugs(mosquitoes(SP) are hell during the summer though) but when i do find a spider they're no bigger then my thumbnail

Mumushi?

Surprised they don't put big spiders in the wiskey bottles like they do with poison snakes to make you MANLY.

Wow that spider looks real similar to the wolf spider my friend and I caught in her sons outsid etoy box ..It was half the size of my hand. I don't mind spiders so I caught it and put it in a plastic jug she wanted to keep it to show friends. Her sister actually still has the body as she is a spider nut lol. She has a tarantula in an aquarium in her living room that she keeps as a pet....

Picture matches what my son saw

The photo of the spider matches what my son saw last night. He said it remained still and appeared to micmic long blades of grass lying on the the walkway by the garden bushes of our 2 floor apartment complex. My husband stomped his foot once on the cement pavement in the attempt to scare it away. It worked, the half-foot spider quickly ran away sideways into the bushes. The spider was as large as an open human adult's hand, the spider's legs seem to be all the same length and the abdomen was not long - rather like that of a seleniod crab spider (plate 662, North American insects and spiders field guide from the National Audubon Society).

I read from Nekko girl that she sighted her spider in Southern Kyushu . We live in Northern Kyushu (Fukuoka City).

Has anyone tried to identify it? The photo provided by Nekko girl is a good start.

I found a black widow at work the other day! luckily i didn't get bitten. Where I live, Florida, giant scary bugs are a part of everyday life. Worse than the spiders are the palmeadow bugs, giant flying cockroaches that love to fly straight for your hair. Uggh.

I HATE spiders !! And I mean, almost with a vengence !! BUT, it's not because of fear or such, it's because I don't like walking into those little sticky, hard to get out of your hair webs they like to throw up everywhere every night out here at my place where I live in Nagano. I mean overnight, I'll walk right into one which was not there the day before. My house place is old (not so, really, the house I live in) and in the dozo, the farm shed, and the workshop that I've also been remodeling over the past two years, there are still a lot of dark areas which makes it hard to see all those webs. And outside, I'll mid-air crash into one almost everyday--I hate it!! You can find some big one out here too, just like that almost size of the hand one, but those I've seldom seen sitting on webs.

But as mentioned in a post above, there is some awe. When I find a web anchor strand that goes from the gutter on the roof of the dozo, in the back (some 10 meters above ground level) all the way down to the roof of the farm shed (some 6 meters from the dozo) I am simply amazed--how could that little unintelligent bug conceptualize that space, and throw up a line that makes it there? WOW !!

Insects here are so much larger than those in Canada!

Spiders look more deadly here, being 'painted' poison green and yellow. I'm sure they're not, they just appear that way to me.

Twice, have I come home, and found a spider with incredibly long legs sitting on the bottom step of the stairs going up to my apartment. Both times neither my son nor wife would set foot anywhere near it, and I was left trying to tiptoe around the thing. Both times it just scooted up the stairs, like 'shoop!'. Both times I was literally trying to levitate off the ground, doing some furious dance.

The other insect that scares the heck out of me is the centipede. I hate those brown ugly ones. The bright red and yellow ones are somehow morbidly fascinating. Still.

Here's a pic my wife took. She thought this one was 'beautiful'.

i hate insects - crawling ones, flying ones, praying ones, big ones, small ones, some of the size of your head, hand or whatever!

I don't know what I would do if I saw that big of a spider or even that picture of that freaky looking centipede or w/e that is... ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.... ::runs away::
