Spelling in Japanese

Hi,

I recently moved to Japan to do full time study and have discovered my spelling ability sucks and I want to improve it. At home I was studying by using Anki (a computer flash card program), but at present I don't really have access to a computer.

As my current study methods are mediocre at best, can anyone give any advice/tips for how go about learning the spelling of Japanese words without the use of a computer?

Any help would be appreciated.

The only thing that comes to mind right now is to copy out of a Japanese book or newspaper or something and say the words as you write them. Incidentally this also works with computers. I used it to help me with 闒懦 (ta4nuo4; it's Mandarin, and means "having a low status and being weak and 無能"... sorry, couldn't think of a good word for 無能 offhand...). Really, the thing that will help is repetition, and it doesn't really matter so much how you get it so much as that you get it.

Yeah, I figured as much.

I've yet to find anything at my level to transcribe, so I guess I'll just try copying out all the sample sentences from the text book.

It's just a long and slow process.
