My experience of General Conversation: (し)なくちゃ(contracted form of (し)なくては) with either いけない or ならない (sounds a little more formal). Perhaps closer to 'ought'/'should' as an obligation that carries consequences for not doing than 'must' as a thing prohibited by rule or law.hm, sry let me try an example to see if i get it. let's say my sister is not eating because she's dieting and i want to say "you must eat!". so in this case she can choose to do another thing (which is to not eat), does that mean that i should use 食べなくてはいけない?
