Amazon product ASIN 4569695183Above is a link to a book which adresses the abolition of Chinese characters in the Korean language. Although I have not read the book itself, I can glimpse a bit of what it says by reading the reviews.
Basically, the author of the book thinks it was a bad idea and that Chinese characters should be reinstated in Korean. Due to the nature of the language, it is quite difficult to make new words, and difficult concepts are difficult to discuss, apparently.
I think for similar reasons, abolishing kanji in Japanese would be a rather bad idea.
