Rentrer en Soi

Thankyou Pink Usagi Chan and Kisano :-) Some of you are lucky! I havnt got my copy yet, it will take a while since I asked my dad to buy it for me in Japan, since he lives there. Its so expensive buying things online.. I wish I could go to one of Res's lives! I hope they have a show or two sometime next year since I'm going to go to Japan then! I wonder if they would go to America to tour?? I think they would soon enough, But I dont even live in America :( NO WAY would they ever come to New Zealand :( Hmmm from what I've heard, Satukis voice sounds much more deeper this time round. What do you guys think? I wouldnt really know until I hear the rest of the stuff I guess!

Awww I feel for you Sae :( No band is ever going to come to Australia or New Zealand because like..."who cares....Australia? Isn't that some hole with kangaroos? Oh yeah I've heard of New Zealand...they have sheep there don't they?"
Sigh...I'm so bitter...but it's true...Aus and NZ are soo far away from anything T__T anyways...I agree that Satsuki's voice sounds deeper from the samples that I've heard...I like it :-)
@Pink Usagi Chan: Thanks for the info about the live footage : D it's kind of sad that it sounds recorded though : ( but ah well...I guess it's better than nothing ^__^

Welcome to jref, Sae! This thread is the only reason I stay here... hahaha.

Gah, and the camera jumps angles so quickly! People who get seizures, beware! There's no time to rest your eyes on one thing.

well there you have it! you see... RES hasn't changed much at all. ^_^everyone worried for nothing. they still use the same cameraman from Cinema Cradle. I guess balance is restored among the people of Sphire-Croid. The hand of crock saved us afterall! XDD (for anyone who doesnt get that or doesnt have the actual cd... under the cd tray of the Sphire-Croid album it says "Will the hand of crock save all people from their sins in Sphire-Croid?" hahaha... maybe they meant... clock? I wonder if jrockers beat themselves up over their engrish later on when they realize the mistakes :? :D)

I got confirmation mine shipped yesterday. I can't wait! 😄

http://impact-media.me.uk/phptracker/ has it as a torrent and the RES LJ comm has it also uploaded to ysi... I haven't really checked elsewhere but I'm sure it's other places and slsk by now... I'm trying to avoid it... >__>

It's so tempting but I am serious about this... I'm gonna wait. :(

I got a confirmation email yesterday from cdjapan telling me they shipped it out, I'll have my copy either by saturday or monday at the latest :-)

God, PK, I don't have your self-restraint. :(
I'm gonna have to end up downloading this, as it takes a while to arrive. :(

@ Ijiwaru: Kozi went to Australia! :p :D

ehh... jeez... I don't really know how much restraint I have. 😌

I haven't listened yet but it's looking awfully good. I've been trying to stay away from the computer as much as possible... and that means watching hours of M*A*S*H re-runs! 👍 :D  I think they'll be here on Monday or maybe Tuesday... they checked through customs and put on a truck headed here about 4 hours ago... I doubt it'll be here tomorrow and no mail on Sundays... I hate that... who invented no mail on Sunday? that's the dumbest thing ever... I thought the mail comes not matter what... rain or shine doesn't include holidays and Sunday I guess... what hypocrites! LOL

I best go cause there's a bad thunderstorm and I'd hate for a power surge to fry my computer... thank the lord for thunderstorms... an excuse to stay away from the computer and not dl the album. :D

^^ good thing I have dialup I cant DL it.. I can wait for my album to come >< yea I hate no mail on sundays mine prob come too..now I must wait x_x

Mine will be here if anything tomorrow mine left SFO at 2pm if I remember correctly :-) I really can't wait for mine to arrive yay!

There's something else I wanted to say about the DVD. For those of you with dvd players that can't play different region dvds, the dvd for this cd is 'region free', so you can play it on your dvd players. 👍

Oh, and as for the 'live performance', I watched it again, and the song is a recorded song, that just plays over the performance clips. However, the concert clips look like they were all taken from different shows. :?

^^ really? cool just like cinema cradle was also region free I want to see it! even if's clips only I want to see them live!I heard they aren't very lively during lives but I can't believe that! *remember's protoplasm clip*I hope all jrockers follow the "region free" dvd thing so we won't have to buy region players now the only thing that wont play my dvd player is klaha dvd >.> dunno why..

oh, so its like Dir en Grey's "Machiavellism" PV?
Well, I just splurged on a buncha cds at HMV, so i'm a bit more anxious about those than Rentrer en Soi's album, though not by much.

That's something I didn't know canada doesn't get mail on saturdays, i'm back in Utah until August and i'll be back up there in Sept for college.

I got mine today and i'm listening to it ^_^ it's actually quite a good album I like it :-)

WARNING!!! EXTREMELY LONG (and slightly fangirlish XD) POST!

My RENTRER EN SOI copies came today... I was so excited I could barely stand it. It wasn't a long wait at all really. I survived the storm. I'm so proud of me. XD I was actually awake for the mailman for once... lol... he came at like 9 am... I was sick all night and I kept waking up so I only slept off and on from like 5-8:30. I guess being sick was good for something... so umm... thanks my crappy immune system... I appreciate it... I think XD

I see what people meant that it was weird listening the first time... it is so different. It really takes you aback. Their new music has a lot of attitude and style. Well... it can't compare to Sphire-Croid because they are so different you wouldn't believe it's the same band. I can't even pick a song that is reminiscent of anything they've done before. Except for Mawaru and some parts of Strawberry Oblaat of course. It met my expectation for variety. The songs are diverse not only in a way from each other but within the songs there is a lot of diversity.

I wanted to hit myself cause I told myself to really hear the songs and not have seizures of excitement I would listen while very calm and peaceful with headphones and the lights off and my eyes closed... and what did I do... rip it open without thinking, throw it into the stereo, turned the volume way up, and belly flopped onto my bed (bad idea seeing I stayed up all night sick and vomiting XD), kicking my little feet and squealing as quietly as I possibly could... HAHAHAHA

The only thing different between limited and regular edition is the cover, obi, and product number... they are exactly the same artwork and cd and the postcards that were first press are the same... the limited just has a double-sided tray for the dvd... and the cover for the regular edition isn't really a cover... it's a slip the size of a cover and then the booklet... and there's free porn in the regular press, too! Inverted nudiepie Satsuki is on the back... LOL!

ok... a quick *coughornotsoquick* review, but warning... the first bits of each were written at a first listen so I'm not sure how dumb I sound even now after leveling my head like a disintegrating building... lol dont ask... I left them in cause I dunno... I felt like it so ha! You can probly tell the parts that were added after cause they are a little more... uh... refined? coherent? or maybe not... XD I'm sure someone could give a better and more technical review *cough Kinsao* but I just felt like sharing mine anyway.

1 - Mawaru - a quick little intro. it's En Soi!!! same piano tune with weird other... noise? o_O Like wind chimes... a church bell... and plucking noise. It sounds in a way like an old record. A little fuzzy. Only 47 seconds though. It stops a bit abruptly and goes straight into the next song. Still there is a somewhat smooth transition into the next track. Just hearing this was the opening brought a huge smile to my face... I foolishly thought RES isn't much different afterall... haha. Kind of ironic too cause like a month ago I burned my friend a cd of various RES tracks and I made En Soi the intro... lol

2 - Bunretsu LE+DD Jinkaku - Omg I love this song! Not what I was expecting at all. Very heavy and strangely beautiful all at the same time. So many great moments in this song. Interesting engrish lyrics...the lyrics are about half in english. One of my favorites "What do you want to do me on earth?" Well earth doesn't satsify you we can do it someplace else... haha jk. This song at first was very confusing... it took about 3 listens before it really hit me what this song was like... the diversity totally threw me off. Probly the most diverse song in the album. A good song to begin with because it's very strong and catchy. It shows just how well RES can blend styles and make them their own while incorporating their talents and strengths musically. I'd have to say that excluding PROTOPLASM or Karasuiro no Taiji that Bunretsu LE+DE Jinkaku is the the strongest on the album. I'd be hard pressed to pick if it was between the 3 of them... cause they all have their strong points. Ok... so the very beginning starts really cool. I didn't realize it was a new song at first. Then it goes all techno for a couple seconds. 1:27 break it down for us Satsuki... oh yea! XD I love the guitars at that bit. 2:13 what? we're in Mexico all of a sudden... *looks around confused* I want me some sopapias! HAHA! 2:29 ahhh drums... *love* Ok... if this doesn't convince you that Satsuki needs no help from Kyo I don't know what does. After many listens to the album I would imagine this is my favorite track because I kept going back and listening to it most out of any of the songs. Maybe you can tell too cause I think this is probly gonna be the longest review of the songs... XD

3 - Giragira - Be ready to dance! hahaha... it's totally catchy. I love the bass. Some really great drumming in here as well. I guessed wrong... Shun wrote Giragira... a total shock. Shun seems too boring for such a song. Put on your dance shoes for serious! It's Giragira-cise time. LOL! Around 1:45 guitars *single tear rolls down cheek and reaches for the pie* XD. The backing vocals are pretty funny towards the end. This song is pretty hard to critique... I don't know why. Maybe I'm too busy dancing about to be thinking about it too much. It really wasn't at all what I was imagining it would sound like from the clip on the OHP and the bit I heard from the radio program. Hands down the catchiest song on this album. I'm pretty sure only RES could pull off groovy synth with rock and do so gracefully as they did... lol

4 - DEAD believe ME - Satsuki said the F word! O___O wahh he said it again... oooh there it was again ! O_____O LOL... that's all I could think the first time. Yay! a Mika song... I'm so happy... Mika writes awesome songs. Gotta love the engrish in this one... like "Dear DEAD **** believe" Oh man... that's to much. I don't know why Satsuki saying **** is so amusing and shocking to me. Is it just me? XD Ok... starts off really interesting and sounds really promising. 1:53... interesting... that part really grabbed my attention and that led to 2:13 a nice little bass solo.

5 - PROTOPLASM - You guys all know about this one... I don't think I have to say anything about it... it's the same version.

6 - Gedoku magai ni SUICIDE - Another Mika song... maybe I lied about him writing good songs. Another catchy song... but maybe not quite so good... haha. This is the jazz song Satsuki must have talked about. Really great guitars then bass comes in for a bit of a solo. This song feels very typical jrock jazz-esque boogie music... but it has a really distinct feel to it. Something that sets it apart... drums and bass is pretty typical for the style but I think the guitars and and vocals are what make it unique. It's an ok track with the album but I think standing alone it's not very impressive. I this proves my friend wrong... she says track 6 on every album is usually the best. I told her no... that is not the case many times... but 95% of the time it is track 2 that kicks ***... oh I love it when I'm right... haha.

7 - Strawberry Oblaat - whoa... Satsuki wrote this one. I'm totally impressed. Way to go Sacchan! *o* Different words for this version. I dunno... I love both version... this is screamier... and heavier. Definitely better guitars. It seems kinda like a live version. Kinda screaming rap-ish at parts. The chorus is the only part I think that is the same words and similar melody as the original Ichigo Oburaato and there's one verse that's the same I think. An excellent remake and one of the better tracks on this album.

8 - Misemonogoya - Starts off with a little acappella... which is just a smidge... uhhh... how to put it nicely... not good... please don't ever do something like that again Satsuki... it doesn't work for you... >___< once the music comes in the beginning sounding like an end song to me... feeling like it'd be on the end of an album or an anime show. -_-***** But quickly that changes... till the chorus that is. 1:05 guitars are yummy... unfortunately it's probly my least favorite track... but some parts redeem the song from be disliking it entirely... like the guitars at 1:31 oh boy is that tasty... haha. This song also has a way too typical feeling at many points unfortunately... some really great guitars sets it apart but not by much... seems like a waste of good guitaring on a otherwise unpleasant song. Fortunately this one clocks in at 2:30 so the torture isn't all that long. Am I on drugs or can you hear faintly hidden and woven deep beneath the surface the melody of Jessica by Dir en grey... but really only the chorus... if so I'll have to kill myself cause I just proved my own self wrong about the DiruxRES thing. -_-;;; I hate it when I'm wrong... XDD

9 - Karasuiro no Taiji - I don't think you need me to tell you the awesomeness of this song either. I think I have enough in the previosu months already as with PROTOPLASM. XD

10 - Seishinshi Jusandome - At a first listen of the album this was my favorite song. Satsuki needs no help from Kyo really people... hear the man roar... -___- XD Ok... this song is so catchy and heavy you just have to love it. Makes you want to invent some weird headbanging yet dancing yet jumping dance move or something... or not... I imagine that's how Takumi got his head injury... I bet it was during this song... it's dangerous... lol. The drums and guitars are just amazing. 1:21 Drums oh man... I was dying. Oh lord and that leads right into the guitars at 1:40. I just have to say the chorus is a bit... err..... funny. ^^;;; Some the vocals in this are just... hilarious... I dunno... hard to explain if you haven't heard. Yet miraculously somehow unbeknownst to me it works quite effectively. I really enjoy this song in spite of it... possibly even because of it. Oh... and I really love that repetitive "Death Grace" part at I think it was 0:53... or should I say Desu Gurays like they do? XD This song is the one that keeps getting stuck in my head... Giragira too...

11 - JUDE - What can I say about Jude other then it's quite simply gorgeously dark. Almost the best track on the album... it falls slightly short of the bar though. I wasn't expecting it to sound like this from the clip. There some creepy organ in here. Makes the song almost sound foreboding. Definitely one of the stronger tracks on this album. The beginning... I was like... no this isn't JUDE... no... no... no... maybe? *quadruple check lyric booklet* o_O? The part that starts at 0:58 felt a bit too typical. Pretty much everything after made up for it though. Some parts made me cringe cause they were almost going back into the kind of sound I hated at the beginning. Lovely guitar solo though at 2:30. The choruses are wonderful. It ends very... umm... interesting... haha.

12 - Binetsuka de Shajitsu shita Shinso wa Atesaki Fumei no Tegami to Naru - How perfect! The is precisely the kinda of song I was on the edge of my seat... err... bed... waiting for the whole time. How satisfying and refeshing a track this was. It's like the cool-down after all that Giragira-cising... lol. Still a little heavy on the guitars at parts. This totally had me in tears all the way through. I was hoping there was atleast one slow song. RES always is best at making those tear-jerking, heart-renching, emotional, slow track and power ballads. Add Binetsuka to the list cause it right up there with the oldies like wither, Anima Mundi, Last Word ツ「 ツ」, Itsuwari no uzu, and Aqua. It's a perfect ending for this album. Only gripe... c'mon on it's a beautiful song... why ever did you end it with that weird scratchy exhale... that was uncalled for. T_T I think this is without a doubt the best song on this album. It really touched me in a way none of the other songs could. But I can't leave it there cause OMG guitar guitar guitar guitar at like 2:30... I'm in love. *o* ok... there... the itching to say that was scratched... looks like I'm done... XD

Aww man... over already? T___T I wanted this album never to end. I kinda sat in silence the first time through for a good 10-ish minutes... completely empty headed and in shock over what I just discovered and wondering if it really over... all the anticipation... excitement... is it done? I was left with no impression whatsoever. It was so awkward. I'm always so moved by RES's music and this didn't do that... I mean sure PROTOPLASM really moved me and Binetsuka did but I didn't feel much of anything when it was over and done. Was that the intention? I'm not sure? Anyone else felt this way? Usually I am left with so many questions and thoughts and yearnings. Instead I greeted the end stunned with nothing but silence and confusion. Now of course after many listens I have all those thoughts and questions and yearnings (namely for RES to kill off some parts in some songs XD)... but it took so long to develop... I felt like my mind was barricaded by the music... once I was familiarized with it I figured out how to get around the hinderance... does that make sense? Probly not... >_<

Ok... here's some afterthoughts. Ok, Ryo didn't write any songs. Soooo he gets a beating like I promised... lol. But he really shines on this album even if he didn't write any songs. The majority of basslines are completely worthy of praise. I think that for some tracks Satsuki's vocal quality and range wasn't really played to it's stregnths... lots more screaming then I was expecting on this album. Then again it doesn't seem fitting for the songs not to have them. I have to say you made it hard for me to sing along Satsuki... and I don't mean those high notes... I mean your slurs, screams, and bad engrish makes it hard to know which line you are singing much less sing with you... LOL! I couldn't follow most of the time. XD Man... the guitars... I was simply astounded and thoroughly impressed with the guitars. Lots of really wonderful moments for guitar on this album. Passed my expectations for sure and I'd have to say that they are probly the backbone of the music. The real support and stregnth the songs. Only complaint that occasionally they made it a bit difficult to pay attention to drums and they obscured the bass. Drums... sadly... I wasn't very focused much on drums... even after many many listens. It's sad cause they are usually what I pay attention to most. Some songs or parts really grabbed me, but for the most part I wasn't really captivated. I had high hopes for you Mika... I guess this is the end of our affair... lol dont ask. Apart from a few strands of the fibers woven into these new songs almost unnoticed... those that made up the unique sound of the old Rentrer en Soi... it feels as if the old ReS is a thing of the past. It's very sad but very refreshing at the same time... they are moving forward. Some parts felt kind of typical but most of the time with a RES twist if that makes sense. They certainly didn't let me down. I kinda thought at first when I didn't feel much of anything that I was disappointed but it's apparent now I was mistaken. XDD

They are off to a good start with this new style. They nearly nailed it. It needs some fine tuning and more originality in some places. For now I give this album: 8.5... for the sole reason that no matter how many listens I give it the really typical parts stuck our like a sore thumb to me. I'd give it a 9.5 if they made it ten tracks and skipped Gedoku magai ni SUICIDE and Misemonogoya... probly perfect 10 if they murdered and disposed of that bit in JUDE and came up with something better to take it's place... revisited a few parts of that song and seasoned it with some oomph and originality it would be incredible... best song on the album... I should rewrite it and send it to Takumi and say "see this is the true potential of this song... what were you thinking crackhead? Re-make please and thanks." (pun about his head injury intended of course XDDDD) It really ruins the listening experience for me because I know they can do better... I know they have overwhelming originality... I've seen it before in their other releases. I can not lie... it was a little disheartening to hear so many parts that sounded like stuff I'd heard before numerous times. I still think it deserves many more listens because it has yet to really grow on me. I'm in a bit of shock even still nearly 18 hours since I first heard and I'm still listening... haha.

Now onto the DVD... I listened to the album so many times I actually forgot about it till like 3 hours later... lol.

1 - PROTOPLASM - What to say... nothing compares to having the real thing and watching it on your TV... haha... it was like I saw it for the first time. I think it's my favorite out of the 3 PVs. I like the filming techniques... camera angles... the editing. It's beautifully done. I wish you could see more of the other guys though. Satsuki is pretty and all but c'mon... not everyone is a raving mad Satsuki fan... some of us do like the other guys believe it or not... XD I think I mentioned before that I really felt it was a fitting PV for the song even though it was not what I expected. Watching that PV... I dunno... as you reach the end and there's that final verse and they are all leaving those ruins and going up the stairs... I found it was very inspiring and uplifting for some reason... I don't know why but I felt really good after it.

2 - Karasuiro no Taiji - Lots of imagery. Very reminiscent of themes in their music old and new but still very distant from the Mizu yume miru chouchou or Cinema Cradle PVs. It's a nice companion to the PROTOPLASM PV. Interesting storyline... gotta love Satsuki's glitterful face... XD Are those real tattoos on his hand? They changed it up a bit didn't they? The end looks different from the clip on the OHP. o_O? I lost the uplifted spirit somewhere in this PV... my spirit was gloomy... XD It's very depressing to me... even if Satsuki is wearing more glitter then and 8 year old girl. HAHA!

3 - Bunretsu LE+DD Jinkaku - wowowowowowowowowow... wow! Here comes the dead spirit. XD I didn't think I could love this song anymore then I already did, but watching it with all the live clips made it like 1,000 time more enjoyable. Maybe it had something to do with those shot of Takumi with braids... jk... haha. Oh man... he must know about my fetish! This PV made me anxious... I felt myself getting closer and closer to the screen the whole time completely entralled by what I was seeing. (and no I don't mean Satsuki's nipples... what do you take me for... -_-* ahahahahahaha) I wanted to be there so bad... I have to see RENTRER EN SOI live or I'll just die!

PKK's top picks (best not favorite):
song - Binetsuka de Shajitsu shita Shinso wa Atesaki Fumei no Tegami to Naru
PV - PROTOPLASM (it's also my favorite but it is both. Like Binetsuka the PROTOPLASM PV really got to me.)

So what did I think? Totally worth the extra money to get the limited edition if you can find it. If not... there's always the reversible porn cover for the regular press... it's not much of a loss... Satsuki's nipples come with both editions. XDDDD

Did I completely bore you all to a painful, unnecessary, and most importantly irritating death? lol... well maybe this will make up for it...

I made scans of everything. I'll try to romanize some lyrics too. I've already started since I have nothing better to do with my sick self... I'm sure someone faster and more knowledgable will beat me too it though. XD here are scans... I only scanned the limited edition except for the cover slip and obi... really the only difference is the product number on the cd... that's it really. I didn't think it worth it to scan both cds since they look exactly the same and my scanner is so crappy you can't even see the product number... lol

Sorry some are not so great... or all of them... but it took me hours... my scanner is such a piece of crap... everytime I scanned something the next time I tried to scan it wouldn't work so I had to restart the computer after every scan... and I scanned numerous times trying to get the best quality images... so I tried guys... really I did... XD Maybe someone else with a better scanner can scan them if anyone wants better scans... haha. They also came with ticket thingers with another triangle. I didn't scan that... apparently you bring that and the triangles from Karasu and Protoplasm obi's and they give you a gift at Club Quattro live (7/30) I want a gift... T___T Maybe I can mail them to someone reliable who is going and they can get it for me. Yea right... they'd probly steal it and I would cry like a vocalist without his precious pie... T____T XD

...and now my fellow followers of the First Church of RIENTO (haha dont ask)... I am done... for real... boy do my fingers hurt like hell. XD

O______________________O Good lord. Those posts are immense!

I can agree a bit about the 'left with no impression' part. When the cd ended the first time I listened, I thought, "That's it? that's all?" It felt a bit too short. I still really like the cd, I'll have to go buy their older releases to see how much they changed. I like the overall sound and style of this cd.

I feel a bit dizzy after reading that... so much information. Very nice review, though.

haha... I knew it was gonna be long but not that long... sorry... I think the photobooklet is more dizzing then my long posts... I can't stare at it... it's all weird patterns and crazy technicolors... XD

I was worried it was just me who felt that way. You are right... it did feel short. 42:10 for 12 tracks and alot of the tracks were under 3 minutes long. It didn't feel complete. Closure without really being resolved. It was almost numbing in a way.

Crap... I just noticed the scan of PROTOPLASM page in the booklet vanished and I can' find it on my harddrive anywhere... I'll scan it in the morning... XD

I read most of your review, save for the individual track reviews. My copy still hasn't arrived and I don't want your review to influence me subconsciously or anything lol.

It should arrive tomorrow or sometime this week!! XD

PKK awesome review on the album. I love the whole album it's really good. I was asleep when the mailman came so I didn't get the joy of recieving the package, but I was happy when I woke up and found it :-)

WAHHH thanks so much for the review and the images!!! haha altho its was probably not the LONGEST jref post but it was definitely one of the most informative =P

Whoooo! I love your long interesting review post, PK! 😄 👍 :-)

OMG this album is so ******* awesome. O_o I am totally fallen in love with it, even after listening only two times I am becoming addict already *twitches* ☝

I'm going to make a proper review for Nippon project, so I'm not going to repeat myself here everything! 😊 But.......

Actually, the drumming really stood out for me. It's not something I normally notice except at particular drum breaks or if I am specially listening out for it. But here, for practically every song I found myself writing "good drumming"!!

The bass and guitars are all love... total love... 😍

I like the way each instrument gets their own space and time, none of them are overshadowed or get less prominence on the album... which makes it feel very balanced... even though it is so varied.

God, their range is amazing... from delicate and detailed to relentless and heavier... they vary the pace well (both within songs and between different songs) and also the balance of loud/quiet... so it is interesting all the way through. :p

Satsuki's vocal range... what can I say... wow... just wow. ☝ He can sing from smooth and clear to growly, screamy, snarly... and he seems to do a fair bit of sexy whispering on this album as well. 😊 And his range of pitch... gahhh... X_X

Personally I tend to prefer their slightly less heavy songs, just because they allow me to appreciate the detail better. 😌 RES can sometimes have a bit of a harsh edge (maybe that's the wrong word but I can't find the word I'm looking for ><) that makes me think there is a need for... some more weight in lower tones... (mehh my language skills are really disappearing! ><)... more... richness... although the basslines are topnotch... but I'm thinking more of a tone type thingy. :auch:

It's a really strong and impressive album! 👍
My favourite tracks are PROTOPLASM, Binetsu de shajitsu shita shinsou wa atesaki fumei no tegami to naru (aka "the one with the long-*** name" :D ), and Gedoku magai ni SUICIDE.
