Rearming Japan; unsheathing the Samurai sword

senseiman said:
I'm pretty sure this guy is just "taking the piss" as my English friends would say. Either that or he belongs in the loony bin.

I'm trying to recall a case where anyone with two red balls didn't end up being banned from JREF in short order. Can't think of one. It'll be interesting to see if he makes it to three. I believe it would be a record.

He has made it to three...

I noticed that today. Could he make it to four?

Rapidfire, point-by-point attack, GO!!!

We are educating you people by not allowing you to draw false conclusion based off of your limited sources and these discussions have been very intelligent and meaningful for alot of people and not everybody espouses your view nor Lexicons.

Sure, and not everyone espouses your views, either, so your point? And I'm sorry if this is your level of "education" because you certainly haven't exactly won anyone over yet since your arrival, as evidenced by your own words:

No way...what's wrong with everybody. I really really love Japan !
It's disheartening that nobody understands me...(sigh)

Did I not say to prove it? Or can you not? And just because you're not bashing Japan does not mean you respect it. Likewise, just because I criticize Japan does not mean I don't respect it, either. I'm not sure if you realize how black-and-white your statement is.

There is nothing wrong with that statement as it reflects a pro-Japanese point of view.

On the surface.

And it's perfectly clear where I stand so please don't use irrelevant statements like that.

How is it irrelevant if one realizes you are not for real, and that you are in no way in a position to speak for Japan's greater good?

It's because I respect Japan that I stand up to foreigners like you who wish to be apologetic for China and the rest of asia who struggle with their own human rights issues.

Yes, stand up to those darn foreigners.

If you've paid attention to our posts at all instead of predisposing your views to a right-wing nationalist perspective, you'll have found that we also respect Japan.

The true Japan is reflected in all of my post, haven't you noticed ?

Nope. Try harder.

And also: you represent the true Japan in your posts? That statement just reeks of arrogance.

I don't openly criticize Japans government or politicians like you people do. I don't condemn Japan for what she did sixty years ago like you people do. And I most certainly don't approve of a Japan that's modeled after Germany.

You've made the false conclusion that because we criticize Japan's policies, we don't like Japan. It's a completely invalid statement.

It's times like these were I am grateful that the Uyoku is here. If you don't like Japan then leave as soon as possible.

Says the least popular man on the forum. Or, the most infamous

I'm quite amazed that someone with two red balls (not to mention three!)is not seeking medical treatment !

This really is the most bizarre thread!

Do we have a fervently misguided and overpatriotic nissei here? .... or is it "Jarvis" in disguise?

Whatever - you have to give it to him ... he does seem to have a lot of balls!

ニ淡ニ停?。ニ停?

No, it can't be Jarvis. This guy can spell and doesn't seem to do the old cut and paste.

If I wasn't confused before, I am now - so much of modern Japanese political and socio-economic institutions were based on Prussian practices - since McTojo seems to like pre-war Japan and its values so much, I took this as a given.

McTojo, what do you want your reconstituted Japan to look like? - I'm talking everything, social, political - all of it. Lay it on the line bud.

I have lost all sense of what this thread is about. :?

Is it:

A) About the pro's, con's, and possible ramifications of revising Article 9 of the Japanese constitution in such a manner as to permit an expanded Japanese military with constitutional support for broader international participation in miltary conflict/peacekeeping missions?

B) A "we don't like Mc Tojo very much . . . let's get him!" thread?

Before anyone gets their yukata in a bunch, I'm not necessarily saying I agree with all of what Mc Tojo writes, or even any specific part. I just think that if you are trying to disagree strongly with someone because you think prehaps they are being pigheaded, stooping to personal insults only detracts from what you might have to say that is strong, reasoned, and informed.

Oops . . . :sorry: gomen nasai !!! I was on my $#@* soap-box, again. Why? Well, I think this is a very critical matter to discuss, one of potentially global importance. It deserves to be discussed rationally and patiently . . . but, perhaps I am wrong; I've been that often enough . . .

Now, what was it we were talking about again?

Kokuso, I agree it is a very important matter to discuss. But it is blatantly obvious from the way McTojo has framed his arguments on this and other threads that he's just trying to stir things up and not have a reasoned debate.

Don't you think the samurai sword was just for dispatching the supremely inconvenient (citizens.......not yet!) to their deaths an Oriental justice????? and thus leading an "imagianoably" (imaginary world) reasonable life in a primitive country????? Think about it now.
What r your thoughts Japan must have been an insufferably insular and primitive country(only geographically/ not modern day politically) at that time

Yes as a piece of workmanship the sword is a very beautiful piece....but don't worship it!

Um . . . huh? :? :auch:

Normally, I'm not too picky about grammar . . . or punctuation . . . or spelling . . . or sometimes even logic. But . . . er . . . sheesh. Where to begin?

1) I do not think that the samurai sword was specifically designed to dispatch inconvenient citizens to an imaginary and primitive world of reasonable life and death as a form of Oriental justice. I think the samurai sword was developed as a single-edged cutting weapon whose primary use was armed conflict against enemy combatants . . . but this could be just me.

2) As far as Japan being insufferably insular geographically versus politically, I would agree. It would be much more convenient if I could just drive (or even hike) to Japan versus having to fly. But, I guess being geographically insular is what happens when you are an archipelago, ne?

3) What exactly do you mean by primitive?

4) I promise not to worship any of my swords; I think that's what my butsudan is for.

Senseiman, school is in session.

Japan is rearming, and has been for sometime now. It's people like you and Mandylion and Lexico who can't handle that reality, too bad, so sad.

Get real here,Japan has been ARMED for over 60 years.Only fools would ever ignorantly believed Japan totally dismantled it's military capacities.

Japan does not have A-bomds Yet
japan need to revise an article 9....
it means it makes military capacities to change the armed force☝

Wrong,Japan has the formula and supply of plutonium ( hidden or un-reported ) and other materials readily in manufacture A-bombs in days.

What would Japan want with a nuclear weapon? To start a new cold-war with its neighbors?

I remember I played a game called world power, and played as Japan.

I invaded Korea, and secretly built nukes and a large military.

Fun times.

Seriously though, there is no logical reason for Japan to have a full blown military, its more then capable of defending itself, especially considoring the US presence, and the plethora of nations that would come to its aid, it seems more then capable of holding an enemy with the US presence there alongside it, until the other nations and US re-enforcements arrive to steamroll the invader, even if the forces present are insufficient to do the job themselves.

Japan more then meets its security needs via its SDF and defence treaties.

A full blown foreign expedition undertaking Japanese military only serves US foreign interests in the short term, and Japanese militarism in the long.

Its also silly to forget to mention most Japanese are still quite happy to not be getting involved with foreign wars, looking at Iraq and afghanistan I cant blame them.

And no, I'm not pro-Chinese-against-Japanismist, if anyone has seen my other China related posts you'll know I'm sufficiently critical of the Chinese government, infact I admit to downright dispising it.

It's time for Japan to rearm itself to better reflect its soverienty as a nation and to be a better contributor to international stability and cooperation with the Japan/ United States security alliance and its asian neighbors.

So you want to do what exactly?Jump in for G.I. Joe and go to Irak and Afghanistan?

Yes during the cold war the whole worls saw ,that nuclear weapons greatly contribute to political stability
And you suppose ,that you can suppress or eliminate terroristic organisations with military power?Havn't you learnt anything from the recent events in in Lebanon,Irak and Afghanistan?
You can kill a few followers of these organisations using force ,but if you really want to get rid of them you need to educate the people in these country's better ,so they have the possibuility to think if it is morally right to do what a few of them are dooing ,and you need to give them the possibuility to work for a better standart of life ,most of these people are just really poor so they don't have anything to lose if they join terroristic organisations.
The only true weapons against extremism are wealth and education.

Well personally I dont really think ,that there is a point in nuclear weapons if anything Japan should invest in a missile defense system

moffeltoff, I hate to inform you that McTojo was banned some time ago, even though he does have a habit of showing up under different guises from time to time.

Oh ok thx^^

Havn't you learnt anything from the recent events in in Lebanon
moffeltoff san, I noticed that u'r talking about terrorism and linking it to the last war in Lebanon, I seem to miss your point .. My country was bombed for 33 days , 1400 innocent people were killed half of which are children, 1 million people became refugees for a month .... I think you need to see the true terrorism and I believe it's extremly different from what you are shown on TV..

"own national self interest.
Japan is one of the greatest and most powerful asian nations in history and people die because that "war" and the winner writes history not the looser."

Well said this is pretty much what all the pacifist people in the world probably hate most.

My heart goes out to the people of your country, kamaru. I remember when Lebanon represented what could be right in this world. Now in the last 30 years it has become a symbol of sectarian and religious violence and intolerance... a battle ground for the ideas and ideals who only see the Lebanese as pawns and collateral damage.
