I have these inscriptions on the sheath of the straight katana I bought, and im really curious to know what it means.

Ill show the caracters when I get them done on paper, can anyone please encode them for me, I would be really happy.

Alright, ill do that. Thank you.

Why didn't you do it? ^_^
I'm trying to figure out how to read them, but they aren't drawn well, so it's impossible ^^' , the rest I have found :)

If you could figure it out, you would be the hero of the day. =D

YES! I HAD THE TWO FIRST CHARACTER TOO!

One, blood, then I was stuck.

Very good! Thank you so much!

I hope we can clarify it tomorrow or sometime. 👍

I can finally sleep a little.

I think you got all of it except the evasive third character, which I assume is a corruption of making the whole phrase a parallel structure;

一血気の勇と, 武じーと Ichi kekki no yuu to, bujii(sic.) to

"(With) both the audacity of bloody valour and the skills of battle"

This rendering would require that 武じー bujii be a mistake of 武事 (ぶーじ) buuji; the long-vowel mark was not necessary, but the sword smith might have wanted to express the long vowel, only in the wrong position. Again your suspicion seems to be spot on, RockLee !

yes, that's it ! Thanks for clearing that 3rd kanji up Lex !

Looks like things are taking on an interesting turn, thanks to lexico and RockLee! (Hi, lex! Long time no write! 😅 )

From what has been discovered, I think lexico's right about 血気の勇
It means "a show of courage in rashness/spur of the moment", and lexico has the source right. Sangokushi (Romance of the Three Kingdoms) is a favorite among the Japanese and has been made into manga/animation series. My son read the entire manga series when he was in elementary school.
Regarding 武じーと, I'm sure no native-speaking Japanese in his/her right mind will write that--unless lightdragonlee had copied it incorrectly.
I think the first bar is not kanji for the numeral one but just ornamental. The second bar after 武じ may be the same, but that puts と out of place... :clueless:

Also, there is something I found on the Web that should be of interest to lightdragonlee... They are the five princples of Bushido (written in Japanese). Look at No. 5. Does it look like what is written on the sword?
The Spirit of Bushido

Hope it helps some!

Wow! Yes! It does! Its missing the "one" character at the start though.

The ending characters look a bit different too.

I dont know much about reading japanese or anything, but it looks really really close!

What does it say?

Alright! Did anyone figure out what it means completely?

If so, can anyone make a nice phrase of it 😌 so I could understand it?

Unless this is it:
"(With) both the audacity of bloody valour and the skills of battle"

???

Your all a really big help, thank youz.

Honestly speaking, if you had copied the script without error, as written on the sheath, I'd say it wasn't written by a Japanese--sorry... :sorry:

If you want what No. 5 in the 5 principles of Bushido (Way of the Warrior) means, it means "you must refrain from act of courage that had been spurred by excitement and without careful thought (because that is not real courage)."

Hope it helps! 😌

No, it wasint me who copied the script, it was my friend who did it, looking at my katana through a webcam.

He sayed he had a bit of trouble, so I kinda figured it would be sloppy, or have errors. 😌

And yes, it does help. Arigatou.

As soon as I saw that じーと I had the same impression epigene did; no way a native Japanese speaker created that inscription.
