PayPay, a leading QR payment operator in Japan, has expanded its partnership with Alipay+ to enhance e-wallet payment options across the country further. This collaboration connects over three million local merchants to the global payment ecosystem, making it easier for international travellers to use their preferred e-wallets.
Between 20 December 2024 and 10 January 2025, Alipay+ and PayPay will jointly host a promotional campaign: during this period, users of participating payment partners, including Alipay, AlipayHK, GCash, Kakao Pay, Toss Pay, Touch' n Go eWallet, and TrueMoney, will receive a 10% discount (up to JPY 1,000 or CNY 50) when they scan PayPay QR codes at participating merchants. This expansion of payment options will provide greater convenience for international visitors to Japan.
Alipay+'s partner payment app network in Japan includes 16 e-wallets and bank apps, including Alipay (Chinese mainland), AlipayHK (Hong Kong SAR China), MPay (Macao SAR China), Kakao Pay, Naver Pay, Toss, OCBC Digital, Changi Pay, EZ-Link, Touch' n Go eWallet, MyPB by Public Bank Berhad, GCash, HelloMoney, TrueMoney, Hipay, and Tinaba.
Alipay+ connects over three million merchants, including many SMEs, through its partnership with PayPay. These businesses range from snack shops and anime merchandise stores to guesthouses near Mount Fuji. Over 20 brands run campaigns with Alipay+, offering discounts to users of Alipay+ partner e-wallets at about 300,000 merchants across Japan, including airport shops, department stores, electronics retailers, health and beauty shops, convenience stores, and premium shopping malls. It connects 90 million merchants in 66 countries and regions to 1.6 billion consumer accounts on 35 mobile payment partners.
The expanded partnership helps travellers using Alipay+ apps scan PayPay QR codes for payments at MPM stores in Japan.
