I don't think this is misfortune, he's literally suffering the consequences of his own crummy actions. If anything, they're going light on him. They were seeking 3 years of hard labor, but he only got 6 months and 20 days after his mom came to plead for leniency. He shouldn't be allowed to use the internet ever again.
