I originally posted this on the member introduction forum, but I guess this is a more appropriate place. I got some encouragement on that forum, but no-one gave me any leads.
I am hoping to find out if any of my mother's relatives are still alive in Japan. My mother moved from Japan in 1960 with my American father, and lost track of her family in the 1970s.
My mother Tamiko Nishizawa was the fourth daughter of Tamagi Nishizawa (died around 1962?) and Tama Yamasaki (died around 1946?). The family lived in the Nagasaki area and later moved to a very small island named Go. Her father was at various times a newspaper man (writing and owning a small paper), a taxi company owner and a fisherman (on the boats and as a fleet owner).
Her sisters were Yayoi, Kimiko (deceased), and Emiko. She also had two younger brothers, Akira and Masato. She had a half-brother Ryo through her stepmother Kimiko.
Her family crest (kamon) is a matsu kagebishi. It is a white circle with a black interior and a white outline of a diamond/rhombus/lozenge motif in the centre. The design has the outline of three overlapping diamonds, with the middle diamond being the widest. My mother says it is supposed to represent a pine tree (matsu), yet all the design books I have seen say this design is based on chestnut leaves (hishi/bishi).
If anyone knows if any of her siblings are still alive, I would be grateful. I am trying to persuade her to visit Japan, and I think the possibility of seeing a relative might help.
