Hello fantastic people of the internet! I have absolutly no clue when it comes to anything about japan, so i really hope you can help.
I was at a garage sale and i bought a big old sailors chest. It was awesome and i could get it very cheap. Good deal. But, I did not check or ask the seller about anything of its content. Anyways, as i got home and was going to clean it, i found a very nice looking red box with shining figures imbedded. After closer inspection i found that the figures were made of Mother of pearl. As i opened the box i saw another lid with figures imbedded and a silver cup with asian symbols ingraved. I dont know if the symbols are japanese, but i know that back in the day the finest mother of pearl came from japanese pearl divers. And the figures resemble some japanese motives (i think) like the man with the sword and the geisha looking lady, and the house and the mountains. So i kinda put two and two together and now my hunch is that this is some japanese box of some sort. Though i have NO clue what its for. Can you please help? The yellow box is a matchbox for scale.
