The movie Purple Butterfly, a intense violent drama of hit squads (Chinese versus Japanese), in the chaos of 1930's China. Also the Japanese taking over China, the protest and guerilla warfare that occurred against them. Also the guerilla warface against the Chinese who were organizing the protest.
By showing real film of atrocities that occured in the 1930's in China, at the very end, seemed to spoil this for me. I see this stuff on the HISTORY CHANNEL every single month.
The plot;
-> We watched this sub-titled here in the suburbs of Raleigh. I had a friend with a keen eye. The plot was very hard to follow. Very subtle things happen. The case of mistaken identity, is key in many areas. Being Westerners we had difficulty figuring throughout each scene who was.
Characters/Scenes
------------------
-> Chinese-Pro-Chinese,
-> Chinese-Pro-Japanese (sells out the anti-Japanese hit gang as much as possible),
-> Japanese-Pro-Japanese
-> Japanese-Pro-Chinese (i am not sure we had this)
->Chinese-Simple-Man-Mistaken-Identity
(too complicated to explain, simple man, but has guts and stands up for himself, he must not be mistaken for the leader of the chinse gang that is anti-japanese)
- -> TrainStation/Both Gangs Go At It/Mistaken-Identity thrown in with both gangs going at it, with the wrong man at the center of it all
(be prepared, this was very difficult scene and made us very confused at first)
-> We just had trouble following each character, through the very complicated plot. I recommend watching at least twice for Non-Asians
Is it, all Asians look alike, to us !
