Monbukagakusho (MEXT) Undergraduate Scholarship 2017

Anybody here from the Philippines? It's my first time to apply this year and I would like to ask a bunch of questions from my fellow countrymen about the undergrad category..

Hi! I just want to ask, are the applications out yet? I keep checking the embassy's website but there aren't any updates... I'm considering if I should call, just in case.

Hey question, I realized this year is the LAST possible year for me to apply. Although my embassy(Canada) hasn't opened applications yet, I only have a few months to study for these exams.
If I'm going for the non-sciences route, my understanding is that I have to take English, Japanese and Math. Not worried about English but a bit for the other two.. I've taken Calculus in the past but I didn't do so well and most likely have forgotten 99% of it. Also I heard you need to have a solid understanding of Japanese(unless you're going for Sciences?), which I don't have :/.

If this scholarship doesn't work out, I guess I'll just apply for the Japanese Studies one.

EDIT: Also does anyone have the current test papers? 2011+.
Greatly appreciated if you can sure with everyone :)

Hi everyone!
I'm really glad to see yet another great thread full of inspired people!
I wish you guys all the best!
For those who have read the previous threads, I had been a very active member in Monbukagakusho 2016 thread!
Last year I passed all the exams and even aced the interview, but was rejected in the secondary screening due to being underaged!
But I hope I do make it this time.
For those of you who need any advice from my experience on the exams or interview, feel free to let me know!
also, I have all the papers from 2005-2015! if anyone wants to study them inbox me please :)
Let's do it guys, the applications are almost here, let's give our best and grab our dreams! :D
Hi there!! I am applying this year for the MEXT scholarship...
really I would be very grateful if you could pass me the past exams... my email is ([email protected])
thanks!

Hey everyone :D Wow, this is so inspiring to see so many young leaders from their respective countries willing to be go-getters and achieve their dreams. :D

I'm applying for the MEXT Undergraduate 2016 programme from South Africa (Am yet to see any other South African applicants on this forum XD) and was wondering what the chances are of actual acceptance. I'm currently 20 years of age and am already in my Final Year of my 1st degree (Pharmacy). However, my heart is and has always been with Medicine (Pardon the pun!). Therefore, I decided to apply for this scholarship as the technological advances in the Japanese medical sphere are astronomical!
I know the applications have been released seeing as I printed mine out (check your embassy's website if you don't have yours yet) however I am rather worried about how many spaces are kept open for Medicine let alone for South Africans. My grades are pretty good, I was top 3 in my degree last year with an 80.4% average so hopefully that accounts for something.

Any advice that any of you can furnish me with would be greatly appreciated. :)
Thank you all for being so active on this forum and may the almighty grant all of your dreams for this scholarship. :)

Keaton :D

Hi guys!! ;)
I'm new to the forum. I'm really happy to know you here guys. The thing is, you all are from different countries but all of you are trying to help each other & that's really a good thing--I think!
Well... I am from Iran. I'm in grade 12 of high school this year and I'll be applying for Monbukagakusho Scholarship 2017, for undergrauate courses.
I'm going to apply for Natural Science C ((Medicine)).
Is there anybody who can help me? Or at least be on the same boat with me? ^^

I'm in the same boat regarding Medicine :D :D

I read some reviews .... and several asked about the number of vacancies ...
so I thought to contribute with the following ... i dont know if it will be so for all countries ... but, it is assumed that there is not a limited number of vacancies ... it all depends on two things ... the exam and interview ... what is needed to pass the exam is 67% of correct answers ... and what most evaluated in the interview is your ability to adapt to a completely new environment and if you can avail yourself self-sufficiently, also why you want to study this race (which you Elected) in Japan, that is to say, japan has to be a leader in what you want to specialize and you have to argue the case cogently

I got this information from a briefing that gave the Japanese government in my country .... I hope will be of help ...
😅

pls don't confuse the 2015/2016 (which has already been concluded) application form with the 2016/2017(which is meant to be processed).
be clarified!

I guess the application has started.....everybody should pls check their embassy's web
Hey Bukky, have the applications begun in your country? :)
wish you all the best for your application!
make a convincing application!
I'm still waiting for the applications to start in my country

I've called them last Tuesday and the lady in under the Monbusho matters told me that the embassy was still waiting for the news (and probably the go-signal, I surmised) from Japan regarding the applications. However, she told me that it's usually during April where applications are opened. So we'll just have to wait a little longer, I guess.

Hello from Russia :) Another 2017 applicant here!

There's a thing I was meaning to ask about. There's some some new paper about desired research field. All my fields of interest classify as Social Sciences A - others. I'm a bit confused, since paper says:
Select from the fields of study stipulated under "2. FIELDS OF STUDY" in the Application Guidelines (e.g., Mathematics, Physics )
It'd be a bit strange if I wrote
1. Others
2. Others
3. Others
like Guidelines suggest... So I guess I should name them, like
1. Fine Arts
2. Design
3. Sculpture
Like that?

Hi.
You should mention the EXACT name of your desired field, however if your choice(s) are in the "others" category, then DO write their exact titles then use the parenthesis and put "OTHERS" in it.
e.g: 1. Fine Arts (OTHERS)
I think it would be more precise and accurate if you do so
Good luck!

Any fellow Filipino who is in its 2nd time in applying for the scholarship? I need to ask questions about the required grades :(

Jan,
Unless your embassy has more specific requirements, knowing Japanese is not necessary. That's what the prep year is for.

Also, to apply for the Japanese studies course you must be majoring in Japanese or something of the sort.

Keaton,
I knew a South African guy who applied for 2015 and the open spots were two at the time, not for medicine, just generally.
