MEXT Scholarship 2016 (Research)

Congratulations and thank you for letting us know about your results!! I wish you the best of luck from now on my friend!!

(See? there was no reason to worry!! :) )
Thanks Nikosil and I wish you the best too. Could you tell me about the good news when you get it? because I am sure good news are coming on your way soon :)

Congratulations!! Enjoy the wonderful scenery in Hokkaido! Hope those of us still waiting get our results real soon too! :)
Thank you catladyjen for your kind words and support and I hope you get your results soon Ganbatte kudasai 頑張ってください you deserve the best 👍👍👍

There is likely a class for even those who have attained JLPT1 - if the university you are going to has Japanese Language classes at all, they likely have this high level class. If not, they can definitely accommodate up to at least N1. Even the tiny University in Nagasaki I went to years ago had this - often times it is the 'bread and butter' of an otherwise small University with few majors/regular classes.

@AmerikaJin5 Great write-up. Very informative. What is your next move now that you are done your language classes? Entrance exam for a degree programme or research student for a while? Thanks for sticking around to help us all out!
At least at Tokodai, there are "non-intensive" language courses as well, J1-J6 and from what I understand J5 is for people reaching/reviewing JLPT N2, and J6 is for N1.
I plan to take J4 next semester, after I take time to practice my conversation skills more.

I take the entrance exam for PhD in Feb but I'm starting my research now. Full steam ahead!

Thank you and likewise!

I am not quite sure if they arrange an annual "welcoming party" for the MEXT scholars of each year, but either way, i would be very interested to get to know you and other people from up-close! :)

Congrats again to all of you who have received the placement result.

This is kind of repeated post but for those of you who are new to this, we have actually compiled a list of members going to Japan in 2016, where we are from and where we are going.

It would be nice if you would fill in the form, you might be able to know your uni mate even before departing ;)
JREF 2016 MEXT Research Scholars - Google Sheets

Just wanted to quote Geminz' message and ask all the newly confirmed folks to update our document. There are so many of you Tokyo students! (I'm cheering for Kansai all the way)

Hello!
I'm applying to Todai for research in Engineering and found this forum while trying to answer some of my questions. I just received some documents yesterday from the Foreign Student Office asking me to provide documents for the MEXT scholarship, but after reading the guidelines I'm not sure I'm eligible. It asks me to provide my degree (which I won't have until June and Todai should be well aware of) and part 11.6 of the Qualifications section seems to be asking me to give up the scholarship because I won't be able to provide a degree by March.
Have any of you applied for and received MEXT while graduating or is the common procedure to take a gap year? I already sent an email to the FSO about this but thought it might be faster to post here.

Cheers!

Are you looking at University recommendation route or going through your local consulate-general/embassy? Either way, I think that a letter of attestation from your university saying you WILL be/are on track to be graduating at the end of the term works. I've used them for numerous other scholarship/grant/graduate programme applications without fail. They usually cost a few bucks and are either sent directly by your uni or are sealed and signed to ensure validity.

Good luck.

Thanks, my program requires that I apply for MEXT actually. Todai just informed me that I was shortlisted, I assume they're going to go through more selection before they recommend candidates to the government.
I'll see what Todai says I guess...

So Todai's response was basically that I need an official letter saying I will be graduating. Wish that was more clear in the guidelines...

Hi all :) Just wondering if anyone knows how much your university grades/GPA play a role?I attend a well recognized university (partner institute with Todai/Kyoto /Osaka) but my GPA isn't stellar at all.. Is there still a chance for me to apply?

Hey everyone, I hope you are doing fine!

I would like to know what happened to all of you who were still waiting for the official results announcements, I think there were some people from Philippines and Malaysia still waiting for their results from the Embassy of Japan, how did it go? Did you get your results from the Embassy or are still waiting? I hope everything turns out fine for you.

I got an email from my professor from Nagoya University telling me that the international students office was asking for the room type that I wanted to have, it seems that they're starting to sort everything out, which is really nice. What I'm still wondering about is when are they going to tell me something about the Certificate of Eligibility... Does anyone have a clue about this??

Regarding the CoE,
As far as i know MEXT scholarship grantees does not need a CoE...
MEXT scholars can apply for visa without a CoE...

Sadly, still nothing here in the Philippines. It looks like more and more people from different countries are getting their results. I've read that even undergraduate students from some countries have gotten results too!

Thank you! I'm hoping everything will be fine too. I really hope we get the results before this week ends!

I'm still waiting unfortunately. Waseda (my second preference) contacted me about two weeks ago and at that point it seemed as if MEXT had just passed them my details. I don't think my case is very representative though, as (i) I didn't have any LoA and (ii) I'm applying to join directly onto PhDs. Hopefully the rest of those who are still waiting are in a better position than I am!!

Hang in there @catladyjen , @Kasbo I'm sure that results will come soon, just give it some more time, my best wishes for you and all those who are still waiting. Please let us know when you get the results from the Embassy :D

Well I got an e-mail from administration office directly about the room choice. That was the last thing to happen, and it was just last week. Also Nagoya :)

Finally heard back from the embassy! Looks like I'm off to Kyoto Institute of Technology in April! I have updated my entry in the Google Doc.
